  1. Warner Bros.' DC League of Super-Pets has begun building its cast as Dwayne Johnson has signed on to voice Krypto the Superdog for the animated film. Based on a variety of characters introduced throughout the DC Comics, the film will center on Superman's super-powered canine as he teams up with Streaky the Supercat to fight crime while the Man of Steel is on vacation. Though Krypto and Streaky have made live-action appearances in various TV shows, DC League of Super-Pets will mark their film debuts. Development of the animated project was first announced in mid-2018 with The LEGO Batman Movie co-writer, Jared Stern, being tapped to write and co-direct the project. Sam Levine was tapped a year later to make his directorial debut as a co-director on the project, and a May 2022 release date was set, though word has remained mostly silent up until last year's DC FanDome when a brief teaser was shown for the project. The film will mark Johnson's second superhero and DC Comics effort alongside his in-production, Black Adam. START NOW RELATED: Every DC Movie Releasing In 2022 Nearly a year after the first teaser arrived at DC FanDome, Variety has brought word that Johnson has signed on to star in DC League of Super-Pets as Krypto the Superdog. The outlet also reports that the 49-year-old actor will produce the animated film via his Seven Bucks Productions label. Though no other cast members have been confirmed at this time, the studio is reportedly looking for more A-listers to voice the other characters of the film. Across his 20-year film career, audiences have been jonesing for Johnson to finally make the jump to the world of superheroes given his large stature and charming personality. With Black Adam finally in production after nearly 15 years of development, the star will finally be able to make his live-action debut soon for the comic book genre. But given the film's story seems to center around Krypto and Streaky, a powerful voice is certainly needed for the the role of the Man of Steel's canine, and Johnson continues to prove to be one of the most iconic and booming in Hollywood. Whether fans are nervous about the film or excited for it, Johnson attaching himself to DC League of Super-Pets as both an actor and a producer is certainly a vote of confidence for audiences. With even his worst films of late still proving to be entertaining, Johnson is certainly smart about what projects he chooses to tackle, especially after a few too many stinkers at the start of his career. Either way, next year is sure to be a good time for audiences as both the animated film and Black Adam are slated to arrive in theaters within a month of each other.
  2. According to star Michael Douglas, Ant-Man 3 is heading to London in July to film. After the first two movies exceeded beyond the expectations of both critics and audiences, Marvel did not hesitate to move forward with the franchise in Phase 4. With Douglas confirmed to be returning, it looks like the Ant-Man franchise will be a proper trilogy after all. The first Ant-Man easily won over audiences when it premiered in 2015, despite some drama when original director, Edgar Wright, left during pre-production due to creative differences with the studio. Peyton Reed stepped in to direct and delivered a film that fans and most critics enjoyed nonetheless, and continued his success with Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018. Though the films seem smaller in scale compared to other MCU films (no pun intended), many consider the lower stakes of the Ant-Man franchise an asset, as it allows the movies to focus more on the characters. START NOW RELATED: WandaVision Secretly Sets Up Ant-Man 3'S Major Phase 4 Villain Douglas confirmed that he would be heading to London to shoot Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania in July during a recent interview with Deadline. He explained that with his co-stars and the "incredible special effects going on and greenscreens" the experience was very different from other productions he had been on. He was only one small piece of the puzzle, no easy feat with Douglas being the legendary actor he is, but he enjoyed himself as he had "never done any special effects movies before." His full quote is below, coming right after he is asked about the most fun set he has been on: "Probably the Ant-Man films. You’re just such a small part, but you have all the incredible special effects going on and green screens. And you spend half the time putting dots on your face. It was a whole different type of filmmaking. I’ve never done any special effects movies before, or any sort of green screen. Paul Rudd was wonderful, Evangeline [Lilly] was great, and all of the other co-stars. That was a lot of fun. We’re starting at third one now. We’re going to London to do an Ant-Man 3 in July." The third Ant-Man movie was green lit back in November of 2019, with both Reed and Paul Rudd announcing their returns to direct and star, respectively. While some filming began early in 2021 during the pandemic, Douglas speaking of going to London matches with news of principal photography for the film beginning in mid-July. If Marvel and Disney keep to the current MCU Phase 4 schedule, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released in theaters on February 17, 2023. Douglas's statement about Ant-Man likely being the most fun set he has worked on explains a lot about the success of the franchise. Despite all the production obstacles, the films have a certain charm, humor, and passion that most of the time only comes when the people involved really love what they are making and want to see it succeed. Hopefully they can manage to keep that going in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as the studio might be a bit more involved with the third film of the trilogy, considering how it likely ties in directly to the main multiverse story of Phase 4. If they manage to pull it off, the third chapter might just be the biggest and best of the Ant-Man story.
  3. Zack Snyder denies that his films have a right-wing ideology. 2021 has been the year of Zack Snyder as it saw the release of two high-profile films from the director after a four-year hiatus. In March, fans finally got to see Zack Snyder's Justice League premiere on HBO Max and now Snyder has released Army of the Dead on Netflix one week after its theatrical debut. Snyder is a polarizing director with high praise and criticism on many levels. One frequent critique of the director's body of work is the philosophical and political subtext of his films often leaning towards a right-wing angle. He depicts the Spartans in 300 as freedom fighters, yet this clashes with the text of the film, which shows them as a might-makes-right society, and both Ma and Pa Kent encourage Clark to put himself and the need to hide his identity before his duty to help others in Man of Steel. Snyder has even expressed interest in adapting Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, a story revered in right-wing circles as it reflects a belief that individualism is superior to collectivism. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: Dawn Of The Dead Is Zack Snyder's Best Movie Snyder, however, doesn't see these elements in his films or in his own beliefs. In an interview with The Guardian where many of Snyder's past collaborators got to ask him questions, actress Sarah Polly, who worked with Snyder on Dawn of the Dead, asked Snyder about where he stands politically and his thoughts on how people interpret right-wing messages in his film. Snyder denied having a right-wing agenda and defended himself by saying he votes Democrat. He said: "I vote Democrat! I’m a true lover of individual rights. I’ve always been a super-strong advocate of women’s rights and a woman’s right to choose, and I’ve always been surrounded by powerful women. And, of course, I’m a huge advocate for the rights of all ethnicities and every walk of life. I would say I’m a pretty liberal guy. I want to make sure everyone’s heard and everyone feels included. I don’t have a rightwing political agenda. People see what they want to see. For me, that was not certainly the point." This isn't the first time Snyder has expressed his political leanings before. He supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and has spoken out against individuals who are seen as hate groups trying to spread misinformation and attacks on minority groups. Snyder has commented on how Sucker Punch is supposed to be a critique of male-empowerment fantasies. Recently, Snyder even confirmed that he pitched a sequel of 300 to Warner Bros. that would have focused on a gay romance. While Snyder may not intend for any of his films to have a right-leaning message, sometimes the director's authorial intent is not the final word of the conversation. An audience will take a message from a film the director may not have intended, and part of that could be due to certain choices in dialogue, visual references, or even just framing of a figure in the camera. What a director chooses to show an audience may have multiple levels of meaning, some of which the director did not intend. Zack Snyder is very careful with the images he portrays in films, and while many of them carry a deep symbolic meaning to him, it is entirely possible and valid that others interpret his films differently than what he intended.
  4. A Quiet Place Part II early ticket sales are higher this year than they were in 2020 before the pandemic. The upcoming sequel was one of many movies affected by the COVID-19 outbreak last year, as it was originally scheduled for release in March 2020. Paramount delayed the film multiple times before settling on a May 2021 premiere. Now, A Quiet Place 2 is a week away from its debut, arriving at a time when theaters appear to be taking the first steps towards recovery after a brutal 2020. Even though most theaters continue to operate at limited capacities, the box office has seen signs of optimism during the early part of 2021. Most notably, Godzilla vs. Kong grossed $427.5 million worldwide, despite also being available to stream on HBO Max. That performance illustrated there was hope for theaters, and now attention is turning to how A Quiet Place 2 will fare commercially. Some of the earliest A Quiet Place 2 box office projections had the followup coming close to matching the debut of its 2018 predecessor, and now there's even more good news on that front. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED:A Quiet Place 2: Biggest Questions The Sequel Can Answer According to Deadline, advanced ticket sales for A Quiet Place 2 on Fandango are double now compared to what they were a year ago, when tickets were available ahead of the film's original March 2020 date. Fandango's Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Shepela expressed his enthusiasm for the development. Read his comments below: “Strong presales for A Quiet Place Part II on Fandango may present another indicator of a possible domestic box office recovery, especially as we head into Memorial Day weekend, the official kickoff to summer movie season. Even though some theaters are still operating at reduced capacity, it’s encouraging to see the Fandango pre-sales momentum.” It's interesting that A Quiet Place 2 ticket sales are in better shape now than they were a year ago. Due to the success of the original movie, the sequel was one of 2020's most anticipated titles before the pandemic began. A Quiet Place 2 was always expected to be a success, but it might be in even better shape now. After many theaters were closed for a majority of 2020, there's definitely a pent up demand to see a high-profile new release on the big screen. A Quiet Place 2 may not sport as large a production budget as something like Godzilla vs. Kong, but it was made to be seen in theaters, with many critics calling attention to the film's sound design in particular. Also, as more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, moviegoers may feel safer about going to the theater. A Quiet Place 2 is poised to be the next big hit at the box office. The final opening weekend estimates will come out when the release date is closer, but the film has the success of the original and word-of-mouth working in its favor. Early A Quiet Place 2 reviews have been very positive, with many praising John Krasinski's direction, the performances, and tense set pieces. That kind of reception should only increase interest in seeing the film, which will probably boost its box office prospects. Plus, A Quiet Place 2 won't be available on a streaming service until 45 days after its theatrical release, meaning those who really want to watch it will have to go to the multiplex.
  5. The schedule for MCU Phase 4 has been completely revamped due to the COVID-19 pandemic - here are dates currently in place. Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended with Spider-Man: Far From Home serving as an epilogue to Avengers: Endgame, which concluded the Infinity Saga and bid farewell to MCU mainstays Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans). Though it was the end of an era, Phase 3 is far from the end of the franchise. Kevin Feige proudly laid out his next string of Marvel releases at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, unveiling a host of exciting movies and Disney+ TV shows. All seemed to be going as planned, with Marvel revving up for its new era. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW Marvel Studios' original Phase 4 schedule would've started with the highly anticipated Black Widow in May 2020, but as COVID-19 continued to spread and U.S. movie theaters remained shut, Scarlett Johansson's first solo outing was rescheduled out of necessity, triggering an initial cascade of changes that were later followed up with even more dramatic shifts, making 2020 the first year since 2009 that an MCU movie didn't see the light of day. RELATED:Marvel's Phase 4 Will Make Or Break The MCU Those delays soon extended to Disney+, but the Marvel machine eventually kicked back into life during the January of 2021 with the premiere of WandaVision, quickly followed by Falcon & The Winter Soldier. As some semblance of normality now looms, Phase 4 on the big screen is finally starting to take shape too. Here is the complete MCU schedule from 2021 to 2023. Black Widow: July 9, 2021 The first movie to suffer at the hands of the coronavirus pandemic was Black Widow. This effort is now over a decade in the making, following Natasha Romanoff's debut in 2010's Iron Man 2. Since then, the assassin has been a supporting player in her fellow Avengers' solo flicks and the various MCU team-ups. Even though she was killed off in Endgame, Natasha is, at last, getting a spotlight of her own. The prequel is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, and focuses on Natasha reuniting with her Russian family to take down the villainous Taskmaster. She'll be joined along the way by Florence Pugh's Yelena, David Harbour's Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz's Melina. Despite its heavy marketing and over 10 years of waiting, Black Widow's release is now coming more than a whole year later than initially planned. Originally set to hit theaters on May 1, 2020, the new date is July 9, 2021. Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings: September 3, 2021 Focusing on an entirely fresh character to the MCU franchise, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings marks the highly anticipated introduction of the titular warrior, Shang-Chi. With Simu Liu at the forefront, the martial-arts flavored film has the distinction of ushering in the MCU's first Asian lead, while the title reference to "Ten Rings" sets up Tony Leung as the proper Mandarin, whose duplicitous role in Iron Man 3 divided fans. Awkwafina will play Katy, Shang-Chi's friend who has no idea of his fighting prowess, and Death Dealer's appearance was confirmed by trailer footage. RELATED: MCU Theory: Why The Eternals Weren't In Infinity War Or Endgame Because of changes to the Phase 4 release schedule, Shang-Chi has leapfrogged Eternals and is now the second planned release. Initially hit with a revised July 9 date (which has subsequently been pinched by Natasha Romanoff) Shang-Chi will arrive in theaters on September 3, 2021. Eternals: November 5, 2021 The next film on the Phase 4 docket is another entirely fresh MCU property. Set over a span of thousands of years, Eternals follows a band of immortals who have long stood on the sidelines during the universe's biggest conflicts. The cast features new MCU characters played by a star-studded lineup including Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. The first Eternals footage emerged as part of an MCU sizzle reel to a positive reception, but without explicit plot details, Marvel die-hards will continue to speculate as to the film's story. Initially planned for a November 6, 2020 opening, Eternals has been bumped back an entire year to November 5, 2021. Strangely, these delays could potentially benefit Eternals, as Chloe Zhao picked up the Best Director gong at the 2021 Academy Awards for Nomadland, building hype for her first superhero venture. Spider-Man: No Way Home: December 17, 2021 Since entering the MCU, Tom Holland's Spider-Man has become a hugely popular figure. His solo movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, established the MCU's unique take on Peter Parker after his first crossover appearance in Captain America: Civil War, and Spidey's involvement in the battle against Thanos has only cemented that reputation. The third installment in his solo franchise is expected to pick up on the cliffhanger ending of Far From Home, which saw Peter framed for Mysterio's (Jake Gyllenhaal) death and the London attack. RELATED:Daredevil In Spider-Man 3? Why It Probably Won't Happen Unfortunately for MCU fans, Sony has delayed Spider-Man: No Way Home several times, meaning the highly-anticipated premiere is now set for December 17, 2021, rounding out a busy 2021 for Marvel. With the rights to Spider-Man, Sony has attempted to cross over its own Spider-Man releases with the MCU's, teasing a Vulture connection in the Morbius trailer. Rumors suggest Spider-Man: No Way Home's multiverse themes will run even deeper, with characters transferring over from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield continuities. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness: March 25, 2022 Despite his prominent role in Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange's second installment has been long overdue - five years in the making. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be one of the MCU's most ambitious projects yet, with early rumors hinting this would be Marvel's first horror movie. Those suggestions have since been walked back, and original director, Scott Derrickson, has been replaced by Sam Raimi. Nevertheless, the multiverse format allows Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange to travel in new creative directions, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will draw important connections to Disney+'s WandaVision series. Previously scheduled for May 7, 2021, Stephen Strange's return was pushed back nearly a year, now hitting theaters on March 25, 2022. Thor: Love And Thunder: May 6, 2022 Thor: Love and Thunder is among the most highly anticipated Phase 4 offerings on the way, and Taika Waititi will be occupying the director's chair once again following the huge success of Thor: Ragnarok. Natalie Portman is rejoining the MCU for the first time since Thor: The Dark World (and a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame thanks to archive footage and some newly recorded dialogue) to play Mighty Thor; Tessa Thompson is confirmed to return as Valkyrie; and MCU newcomer Christian Bale will provide the villain, Gorr the God-Butcher, all of which serves to build even more anticipation for the fourth solo Thor movie. Originally scheduled for November 5, 2021, Thor will return to the big screen on May 6, 2022, and fans can expect some fairly major cameos. Not only are the Guardians of the Galaxy heavily rumored, but Russell Crowe claims to be playing Zeus, and Melissa McCarthy appears as part of another inevitably hilarious stage play sequence. RELATED:Doctor Strange 2 Vs. Thor 4: What Is The Most Important MCU Phase 4 Movie? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever July 8, 2022 Black Panther was a critical, cultural, and financial smash hit, grossing over $1 billion worldwide and developing an extraordinarily passionate following. Black Panther 2 was first announced in 2019 and has since earned a subtitle in Wakanda Forever, with original director Ryan Coogler is set to return. Not much is known about Black Panther 2's plot, but considering the first film's cultural cache, the sequel remains one of the most highly anticipated releases on Marvel's slate. Since that initial announcement, of course, Black Panther star and King T'Challa himself, Chadwick Boseman, tragically passed away. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is pressing ahead without him, and it remains to be seen how the franchise will continue without its titular hero. The sequel's title suggests Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will focus on themes of legacy and community. The Marvels: November 11, 2022 Captain Marvel was a huge success in 2019, grossing over $1 billion worldwide, and as Marvel Studios announced the initial changes to the MCU Phase 4 slate, the studio also confirmed Captain Marvel 2 was in the works. In May 2021, the sequel's title was confirmed as The Marvels, which gives Brie Larson's Carol Danvers top billing alongside two MCU newcomers. Teyonah Parris debuted as an older Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, and developed the powers of Spectrum, her alter-ego from the comics. Monica clearly has beef with Carol that The Marvels can resolve. Rounding out the titular trio, Imam Vellani will play Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel on Disney+ before joining Rambeau and Danvers in theaters. Brie Larson's return as Carol Danvers was scheduled to land on July 8, 2022, but now sits at November 11 that same year. RELATED:Coronavirus: Every Movie Delayed So Far Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania: February 17, 2023 If you thought Scott Lang would leave the Quantum Realm well alone after the events of Avengers: Endgame, you’d be very much mistaken. Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is now confirmed for an early 2023 release after the title was first unveiled in late 2020. Paul Rudd’s Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne will once again star, while Peyton Reed remains on directorial duties. The title would suggest Ant-Man’s third MCU solo adventure hops around the multiverse with reckless abandon, but the film will seemingly also introduce Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors. Infamous enough to potentially succeed Thanos as the MCU’s big bad, Kang is a genius armed with advanced future technology, which he uses to conquer various worlds across time, space, and multiple realities. Fortunately, Ant-Man and Wasp won’t be fighting him alone. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are back as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, and the role of Cassie has been curiously recast. Scott’s daughter will now be played by Kathryn Newton (Detective Pikachu, Supernatural, Blockers), suggesting a transformation into Stinger could be on the horizon. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3: May 5, 2023 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might’ve landed a little earlier than May 2023, had Disney not played a brief game of directorial merry-go-round. James Gunn was fired from the threequel due to offensive tweets resurfacing from the director’s past, and by the time Mickey was ready to forgive, Gunn had already signed on to make The Suicide Squad for the "other side." Nevertheless, most fans are just happy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is happening at all. All the main gang will be returning, as well FOTGOTG (friends of the Guardians of the Galaxy) such as Nebula, Kraglin, and Mantis. Interestingly, Elizabeth Debicki will reprise her role as Ayesha, suggesting the MCU's Adam Warlock tease might finally be paid off. With Dave Bautista recently claiming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will likely be his final performance as Drax the Destroyer, 2023 could well be the last time the Guardians appear in their traditional guise, so enjoy them while you can.
  6. Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantamania star Evangeline Lilly may have just spoiled the imminent return of Yellowjacket, the villain of the first Ant-Man film. Death has always been something of a revolving door in comics, and for years Marvel readers joked the only people who stayed dead were Captain America's sidekick Bucky and Spider-Man's beloved Uncle Ben. And then Marvel brought Bucky back as the Winter Soldier. The MCU may play fast and loose with its comic-book inspiration, but it has certainly been true in considering death nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Time and again secondary characters have been apparently killed, only to emerge from the shadows when the time is right; all this came to a head in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, when Thanos killed half all living creatures in the universe - only for them to be brought back by the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. Now it looks as though another character's death may have been faked. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: 20 Times Marvel Movies Tricked Us With Fake Character Deaths Ant-Man 3 star Evangeline Lilly celebrated receiving the script for the film with a photo she shared on Instagram (now deleted, but spotted by ComicBook.com). She added an excited comment about loving the script - and tagged a number of her fellow actors. Intriguingly, she included Corey Stoll in her list of tags, who played the villainous Yellowjacket in Ant-Man. Stoll's time in the MCU apparently came to an end when Yellowjacket's shrinking tech malfunctioned, seeming to kill him, but that tag appears to be a hint he'll be returning in Ant-Man 3. A corrupt industrialist in Ant-Man 3, Darren Cross became determined to prove himself better than Hank Pym, and wound up going on a murderous rampage. If the malfunction in his suit didn't kill him, then it's reasonable to assume he was instead trapped in the Quantum Realm. Indeed, director Peyton Reed has previously hinted Yellowjacket could be in the Quantum Realm, defending himself against an accusation Marvel villains tend to be disposable. "If you watch his death in the first Ant-Man, the suit is compromised," he argued. "He shrinks and goes into a thing. I mean, he could be somewhere down there in that Quantum Realm." Concept art for Ant-Man & the Wasp suggested Marvel toyed with the idea of Janet Van Dyne scavenging the remnants of the Yellowjacket suit, but they pivoted away from that idea, leaving open the possibility Cross' suit wasn't fatally compromised. It's safe to assume Ant-Man 3 will see the heroes return to the Quantum Realm, given the film is officially called "Quantumania." One scene in Ant-Man & the Wasp subtly suggested the Quantum Realm is inhabited, and - given Jonathan Majors has been cast as Kang the Conqueror - it may contain Kang's hidden city Chronopolis. If that is the case, Kang could well have recruited Yellowjacket to his side; he has a history of recruiting other villains to act as his pawns in the comics. Assuming Lilly's tag really does mean Yellowjacket is coming back, it will be fascinating to learn what has happened to him since his "death" - and even how much time he's experienced in the Quantum Realm. Ant-Man 3 is looking very promising indeed
  7. Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone are joining Yorgos Lanthimos' next film, titled Poor Things, which is being described as a “re-imagining of Frankenstein.” Ruffalo is still fresh off his Golden Globe-winning dual-role in HBO’s miniseries, I Know This Much Is True, and the Hulk actor has already found his next role to sink his teeth into. Ruffalo will also soon reprise his fan-favorite role as Bruce Banner in the Disney+ series She-Hulk, coupled with voicing the green beast in an episode of What If...?. The three-time Academy Award nominee also recently wrapped shooting on Netflix's star-studded time travel movie The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds. The film saw its three female leads nominated, but it was Colman who surprisingly took home the Oscar prize for her oddball portrayal of Queen Anne. After The Favourite’s glowing reception by critics and the Academy, expectations are certainly sky-high for Lanthimos' feature film follow-up, Poor Things. RELATED:The Favourite: True Story & Ending Explained The exciting news of Lanthimos’s next feature starring Ruffalo and Stone comes from a Collider exclusive. Poor Things, described as a riff on Mary Shelley’s seminal early 19th-century novel Frankenstein, will star Stone as Bella Baxter, a supposed stand-in for the monster. Bella is “a beautiful, volatile erotomaniac” who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband, but is brought back to life with the brain of an infant. Ruffalo’s role, on the other hand, is currently undisclosed. Poor Things is being adapted by Tony McNamara based on a book of the same name by the popular Scottish author Alasdair Gray. Lanthimos and McNamara previously collaborated on The Favourite. According to Collider, Gray’s book has been described as a “hilarious political allegory, a send-up of Victorian literature, and a thought-provoking duel between the desires of men and the independence of women." Based on this description of Poor Things, it sounds like there is a lot of meat on that bone for Lanthimos and McNamara to work with. The Greek auteur is one the most exquisite and original filmmakers working today, so it will be intriguing to see what he can do with such fascinating source material as Poor Things and two incredibly accomplished actors in Stone and Ruffalo.
  8. The Clone Troopers of the Star Wars prequel trilogy succumbed to their programming, wiping out most of the Jedi during Order 66 and ushering in the Galactic Empire, but many clones avoided this through various means. In both canon and the original timeline, Legends (formerly called the Expanded Universe), Clone Troopers were subjected to brainwashing, leaving them with programmed behaviors that lay dormant until Order 66 was issued. Once activated, the clones would not only turn on their Jedi leaders (who were their personal friends more often than not), but their personalities would change as well. Order 66 and the Sith coup that overthrew the Republic was secretly the true purpose of the Clone Army. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW Clone Troopers of all ranks and specialties constantly proved that their genetic modifications and behavioral conditioning on Kamino weren’t enough to suppress their free will. Clone Troopers typically replaced their numerical designations with names, befriended their brethren, and, in canon, often personalized their appearances underneath their armor. Some clones even began romantic relationships with Jedi or civilians, and in rare cases, deserted the Republic or committed treason against it. The clones’ brainwashing, however, completely overrode their free will and ensured the success of Darth Sidious’s machinations. RELATED:How Star Wars: The Clone Wars Retconned Episode II's Clone Troopers While several notable clones disobeyed Order 66, not all of them did so because they consciously avoided their programming. In canon, Captain Rex initially followed Order 66 but had his implant removed by Ahsoka Tano, restoring his free will. The trooper Tup had his malfunctioning control chip removed as well, at the cost of his life. The Rebel clones Wolffe and Gregor removed their chips as well, but it’s unclear if they followed Order 66 beforehand. In the now-ambiguously canonical Star Wars: Kanan comic, Commander Grey manages to temporarily resist his implant while it was activated (with great mental effort). The Legends-era ARC Troopers simply weren’t modified outside of growth acceleration, so most of them disobeyed Order 66. Fives The veteran ARC Trooper Fives was one of the first people to discover the Clone Army’s control chips. When his friend Tup lost control of himself and murdered Jedi Master Tiplar (with no memory of doing so afterward), Fives secretly began investigating the incident. His findings led him to discover the chips’ (and the Clone Army’s) true purpose from Palpatine himself. Fives was killed shortly after this, but he managed to remove his control chip while on Kamino, effectively avoiding his programming if he’d lived to see Order 66 executed. Fives’ discovery of the chips directly contributed to the removal of Rex’s implant (and potentially helped other clones), so his death was not in vain. Kix It’s unclear if Clone Medic Kix removed his control chip, but he privately researched the implants after Fives’ death, leading him to discover their purpose as well. Palpatine and Dooku had Kix kidnapped and placed in suspended animation rather than assassinating him. Kix avoided becoming brainwashed, but his abduction prevented him from interfering with the coup. Kix was discovered and reanimated during the war between the Resistance and First Order around the time of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, making him possibly one of the only clones alive in that era. As part of Sidon Ithano’s pirate crew, Kix may have fought in the Battle of Exegol alongside Resistance forces. The Bad Batch Experimental Clone Force 99, nicknamed “The Bad Batch,” was made up of clone commandos with unique mutations that rendered each squad member a clone super-soldier. An unintended side effect of their mutations was that the Bad Batch members were mostly immune to their control chips. Towards the end of the Clone Wars, the standard clone Echo joined their ranks, and his cybernetic reconstruction left him similarly immune to his programming. Their newest member, Omega, is a female clone of Jango Fett who appears to not have undergone growth acceleration and is also unaffected by her implant. The squad’s sniper, Crosshair, is the lone exception to this, as his free will was overtaken by his implant, which was strengthened under Admiral Tarkin’s orders. RELATED:Clone Wars: How Mandalorian Culture Influenced Clone Troopers Cut Lawquane Cut Lawquane deserted the Republic army early in the Clone Wars, becoming a husband and father on the Outer Rim world of Saleucami. Naturally, he avoided his program because he was no longer part of the Clone Army when Order 66 was issued. Cut does, however, still have his control chip implant, which Rex warned him about shortly after the Empire supplanted the Republic. It’s unknown what Cut did with this information, but it’s fair to assume that he either removed his chip or has plans to remove it by the time he appears in Star Wars: The Bad Batch. If he doesn’t, Cut is at risk for potentially becoming an Imperial pawn, if his programming was activated. Omega And Yayax Squads (Legends) The Legends-era Clone Commandos were generally similar to standard Clone Troopers, albeit with more advanced equipment. Like their standard brothers, they received special forms of indoctrination to ensure their compliance with Order 66. Despite this, two particular squads managed to avoid their programming: Omega Squad and Yayax Squad. Both squads overcame their brainwashing for similar reasons. Omega Squad was close with their training sergeant, the Mandalorian warrior Kal Skirata, and the squad’s demolitions expert was in a romantic relationship with a Jedi. The clones of Yayax Squad were also influenced by Skirata, deserting the Empire and devoting themselves to his Mandalorian Clan when Order 66 was given. HOB-147 A standard Clone Pilot whose V-19 Torrent was destroyed in battle, HOB-147 was left stranded and injured in deep space when the scavenger Hurd Coyle rescued him. 147 was not present for Order 66’s execution or the Sith coup, only hearing about them from Coyle during his recovery. 147 was not the only guest aboard Coyle’s vessel. The scavenger was also harboring Jedi younglings, taking them to the Outer Rim to escape the fledgling Empire. By the time the ship was boarded by brainwashed Imperial Clone Troopers, HOB-147 had become fond of Coyle and the Jedi fugitives, allowing him to override his programming and convince the other clones not to search the vessel. Able Able-1707 was a standard Clone Trooper who became stranded on Lubang Minor early in the Clone Wars, surviving in the wild until being discovered by Luke Skywalker during the Galactic Civil War. Able was completely unaware of Order 66 and the rise of the Galactic Empire, but he strongly believed in the Republic’s ideology, like many clones did, so he voluntarily joined the Rebellion. Able’s belief in democracy and decades of surviving on his own allowed him to avoid his Order 66 programming and act on his own free will, as so few clones ultimately did in the Star Wars saga. N
  9. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie reflects on his hopes for his future as Captain America and his Marvel Studios contract lasting for 20 years. The Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe series centered on the titular duo as they come to grips with the departure of Steve Rogers after the events of Avengers: Endgame and coming to grips with the future of his vibranium shield and who should don the moniker of Captain America, as well as facing off against the anti-patriotism group the Flag Smashers. Developed by Malcolm Spellman, the series included the MCU introductions of Joaquin Torres, John Walker aka U.S. Agent and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW Mackie made his MCU debut as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and carried the role over into a brief appearance in the following year's Ant-Man, 2016's Civil War and the last two Avengers outings. The Disney+ series ended with Mackie's Sam electing to take on the moniker of Captain America in Steve's absence while Wyatt Russell's Walker became the U.S. Agent with the help of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Val. On the heels of the series' success and the day of the finale, it was announced that a fourth Captain America film was in the works with Spellman and staff writer Dalan Musson scripting, though no confirmation has been made yet whether Mackie would carry the role on in the next film. RELATED: John Walker's Super Soldier Powers Set Up Zemo's MCU Return While chatting with Variety at the red carpet for the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Mackie was asked how long his contract was set to last with Marvel Studios. Thanking the journalist for his kind words, Mackie opened up about his hopes to stick with the character and studio for the next 20 years. Read what he had to say below: "I hope the next two decades, that’s what I’m hoping for. So if I can be 65 and still doing this, I’m crushing it." One thing Marvel has become notorious for is keeping things under a strict lock and key, especially when it comes to their future projects, but stars including Elizabeth Olsen have become a little looser with their tongues on what their contracts have entailed or were originally supposed to cover. With the studio receiving near-universal acclaim for taking the step of establishing Sam as the first Black man on screen to take on the mantle of Cap, it seems hard to believe Mackie wouldn't be able to get another 20 years with the studio if the narrative calls for it. Especially with Marvel looking to keep their storytelling groups diverse both in front of and behind the camera, Mackie's devoted presence would be a shame to lose whether it's two years or 20. Not to mention, the camaraderie Mackie has shown with a number of his fellow actors, including the fun rivalry between him and Spider-Man star Tom Holland, proves him to be a strong team player for Marvel to want to keep around. Though there's still a lot of unknowns on what will happen with Mackie and the title of Cap after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there shouldn't be a doubt Mackie isn't going anywhere anytime soon. For now, fans can at least revisit the exciting reveal of his new suit with all episodes of the MCU series currently streaming on Disney+.
  10. New photos from the set of Thor: Love & Thunder reveal New Asgard and a Viking ship. With production kicking off earlier this year, Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo outing as Thor is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate. Director Taika Waititi will return as director and the voice of Korg, along with some other characters from the beloved Ragnarok, including Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, the newly crowned King of Asgard. Natalie Portman will also make her long-awaited reappearance as Jane Foster and wield Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Thor 4 is not expected to be just a routine sequel. The first photos to surface from the set showed Chris Prat in costume as Star-Lord, who is expected to appear alongside the rest of the Guardians, including Dave Bautista’s Drax, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, and Sean Gunn’s Kraglin (with Rocket and Groot expected to appear too). To top off its Avengers-like ensemble cast, Thor: Love & Thunder will welcome a few high-profile newcomers in Christian Bale as the main villain, Gorr the God Butcher, and Russell Crowe as Marvel’s version of Zeus. RELATED:Every Marvel Hero & Villain Thor 4'S Zeus Can Set Up In The MCU While photos have surfaced from the set of Thor 4 before, the latest provide perhaps the best look at the film’s New Asgard set and the peculiar industry the town is getting into. User Thor: Love and Thunder News shared the photos on Twitter, which show four different views of the New Asgard set being built in Sydney. An Asgardian longship that appears to have rollercoaster-style seating sits next to a building marked “Asgard Tours: Aerial Sightseeing,” which provides a strong hint as to what the boat will be used for. These set photos are not all that different from the New Asgard concept art director Taika Waititi shared over a year ago. After the destruction of Asgard in the previous film, the planet’s survivors settled in a town in Norway during the five years between Infinity War and Endgame. They aptly named their new home, New Asgard. While some time will have passed since the last time New Asgard was seen and before the events of Thor: Love & Thunder, it appears they will have made some drastic improvements to their town, especially in fitting it for tourism. Some roofs and walls appeared to be slightly damaged, perhaps the doing of Gorr the God Butcher. The fully finished New Asgard set will be seen in all its glory when Thor: Love & Thunder debuts in theaters less than a year from now on May 6, 2022.
  11. Tom Hiddleston explains how The Avengers filmed Loki's Hulk smash scene. Hiddleston will be reprising his role as the iconic God of Mischief in the upcoming MCU streaming series, Loki. Although Loki first appeared as Thor's (secretly adopted) brother in 2011's Thor, he really took the spotlight as the villain in 2012's The Avengers, starting a reign of chaos, comedy and morally-grey goodness that fans still love to this day Loki's penchant for grandiose and arrogant Shakespearean speeches (like his classic line about being burdened with glorious purpose) was brutally interrupted in the best way by the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) during the finale of The Avengers. After Loki was trapped at the Avengers Tower he declared himself superior to the Hulk, who responded promptly by beating the living daylights out of Loki with the classic Hulk smash maneuver. The scene remains a fan-favorite to this day due to the fact that it was truly the first time Loki's narcissistic personality was literally beaten down to a pulp. RELATED:Loki Could Have Created THREE Phase 4 Villains Hiddleston went into detail about some behind the scenes secrets of classic Loki scenes during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. His explanation on how the classic Loki Hulk smash scene was actually filmed makes the moment's final film version even funnier. Read Hiddleston's explanation of how that scene was filmed below. "I had a piece of wire tied to my ankle and there was a mat on the floor, which was out of shot, and three of the strongest stunt guys holding the wire at the end behind the camera. The experience being yanked out of frame was one I will not forget in a hurry...For about two years after that, I couldn't go through airports anywhere in the world without somebody kind of going, 'Hey, Mr. Loki, I love it when you get Hulk smashed.' It became a bit of a thing in a fun way." It's always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes details on how classic MCU moments were filmed. Hiddleston also noted in the interview that Mark Ruffalo didn't portray the Hulk with motion-capture during filming of The Avengers, so Hiddleston was the only one being yanked around on-set for that moment. The actual scene and the way it was filmed was hilarious. Canon-wise, the Hulk-smash moment from The Avengers was actually a character defining moment for Loki that led him on a path to heroic sacrifice in 2018's Avengers: Endgame. After all, Loki evolves from a murderous god bent on Earth's destruction to a morally-grey anti-hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect the people of Asgard and Thor from Thanos, the mad Titan who hired Loki in the first place. If there's one thing Marvel is superior at, it's character continuity. And that was never more evident than when Loki prophetically tells Thor, "The sun shall shine on us again brother," in Endgame before echoing the words Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) told him in The Avengers to Thanos. "We have a Hulk." Hiddleston's God of Mischief will return, still burdened with glorious purpose in the highly anticipated streaming series Loki this June. Loki's character development over the past ten years in the MCU has been nothing sort of fantastic, so it will be interesting to see how Loki approaches that from a storytelling standpoint. Regardless of plot points yet to be seen, Hiddleston reprising his iconic MCU role will be worth the three year wait.
  12. The K-Pop band, Stray Kids, performed an epic Deadpool-inspired act, catching the attention of Ryan Reynolds who responded back in typical Deadpool fashion. Deadpool premiered in 2016 and its edgy humor, superhero action, and fourth wall breaking made it an instant hit. The success of the first film led to the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, which also performed strongly with the much anticipated introduction of Cable, portrayed by Josh Brolin. Now, there is talk of a Deadpool 3 in the works, though an exact release date has not yet been revealed. The Deadpool films have strongly propelled Reynolds into the spotlight for his stellar performance as the Merc with a Mouth. Prior to his role as Deadpool, Reynolds was most well known for his appearance in various comedies such as The Proposal and Just Friends. However, after his Deadpool role, Reynolds became a favorite both on and off the screen, as fans raved over his acting skills, his wry humor, and his high-profile relationship with Blake Lively. Even five years after the original film, fans and artists alike are finding ways to incorporate the iconic movie into their art, and Reynolds is loving it. The rest of the performance has minor references to Deadpool spread throughout with firearms, samurai swords, and comic-booked themed graphics. In typical Deadpool fashion, Reynolds responded to the performance on Twitter stating, "Oh hello @Stray_Kids." Check out the performance and Reynolds response below: The performance quickly caught the attention of Deadpool fans on social media, who immediately began to create mash-ups combining Deadpool scenes with snippets of Stray Kids' performance. On one of these mash-ups, Reynolds posted the comment with his Deadpool quote, tagging the Stray Kids. Quickly, Reynolds started trending on Twitter as the performance gained more recognition and as fans raved over his support of the Stray Kids. The ensuing Twitter frenzy was a mixture of fans complimenting the K-Pop performance, discussing their discovery of Stray Kids through Reynolds, and imagining the band members' reaction when Reynolds noticed them. Stray Kids' performance was unique and artistic and should give them an edge in the K-Pop reality show competition. Their performance is a prime example of the many unique and amazing ways that fans find to incorporate their favorite films and shows into their own art. It was heartwarming to see Reynolds acknowledging the band's performance and responding with his own little Deadpool quote, as it was a connotation of a shared love of Marvel's Deadpool between them and an acknowledgement of respect for one another. It is encouraging to see a celebrity who isn't too busy to shoutout the work of other artists and it is also awe-inspiring for of all us pop culture fans out there, that one can turn their passion and love of a film franchise into a beautiful expression of art.
  13. A Marvel fan once succeeded in sneaking into Mark Ruffalo's car and showing the actor the Loki fan art she had made. The God of Thunder's misfit brother, Loki, first appeared in the MCU in Kenneth Branagh's Thor in 2011, played by Tom Hiddleston. In Thor, Loki is a complicated and fairly antagonistic figure, but it wasn't until the first Avengers film a year later that the Trickster God got to go full supervillain. As a jealous, lonely brother or a conniving megalomanic, the character's charisma and wicked humor made him an all-time fan-favorite. After eleven years portraying the God of Mischief, Hiddleston is finally leading his first solo Marvel project on Disney+'s Loki. This series is the third Marvel television show for the streaming service, and the seventh MCU project to feature Hiddleston as Loki. Hiddleston is just as enthusiastic as ever to be a part of the character's journey, and fans couldn't be happier to get more of their favorite anti-hero. In fact, some of Loki's fans can be just as crafty as him when it comes to meeting their heroes. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED:Loki Trailer Shows He's Finally Become The Real God Of Mischief Marvel Head, Kevin Feige, recalled in EW's recent profile of Hiddleston that the intensity of the Loki fandom was evident fairly early in the development of the MCU. During the press tour for the Avengers movie in 2012, a Russian fan slipped into Mark Ruffalo's car to ask the Hulk actor to pass her Loki fan art along to Hiddleston. Feige noted, "That was one of the early signs there was much more happening with this quote-unquote villain." The fan evaded Ruffalo's security team during a press stop in Russia when they mistook her for the actor's publicist. Ruffalo observed that the fan was thrilled and surprised by the success of her own ruse, but quickly got down to business to request that Ruffalo deliver her Loki art to Hiddleston himself. If Ruffalo's ego was bruised by this incident he kept that to himself, but he did note that Russia really loves Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston has had many other roles during his tenure in the MCU, but his devotion to the lore and history of Loki is part of what makes his portrayal of the character resonate so powerfully with audiences. From teaching "Loki School" on the show's set to showing up in character at Comic Con, Hiddleston's dedication to his role is that of a deeply committed and spirited actor. Many actors in the MCU share personality traits with the characters they portray, but Hiddleston shares his passion and knowledge base with the MCU fandom itself, and the fans respect that. When the Loki show premieres, Hiddleston is likely to receive plenty of fan art, but probably not via Mark Ruffalo.
  14. Dave Bautista says his shirtless scenes as Drax are part of the reason why he is exiting the MCU after Guardians of the Galaxy 3. While Bautista’s fame is originally owed to his long reign as champion of the WWE, he is now arguably more well-known as the lovably dense alien from Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax the Destroyer. Since the Marvel sub-franchise’s first installment in 2014, Bautista has portrayed Drax in the 2017 sequel, in Avengers: Infinity War, and in Endgame. Bautista will reprise the fan-favorite role for the highly anticipated Phase 4 team-up film, Thor: Love and Thunder, which began filming late last year and has been teased as having an Avengers-like cast. Bautista will then reprise the role for a final time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn previously reaffirmed this will also be his last film in the series, which has certainly influenced Bautista’s decision to step away. The Drax actor is also likely looking to expand his range and experiment with different roles outside of the MCU, as he will be appearing in Zack Snyder’s Army of Dead and Denis Villeneuve's Dune in prominent roles. To boot, he was also recently cast in the Knives Out sequel. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED:What Guardians Of The Galaxy 3'S Logo Tells Us About The Movie Appearing on Ellen, Bautista discussed another reason why he is ready to move on from Drax: the shirtless scenes. As he gets older, Bautista says it is getting more and more difficult for him to stay in the proper shape required to portray Drax. “I'm going to be 54 years old by the time Guardians 3 comes out, and the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me," Bautista says. Though he doesn’t seem to have any regrets about his time as Drax, saying "the journey has come full circle and I'm just ready to kind of step aside and wrap it up." In the interview with Ellen, Bautista also mentioned he was surprised that his recent announcement caused such a rift in the fandom because, in his mind, it was obvious Guardians 3 would be his last, “I figured everybody assumed that this is how this works. We work in trilogies, and James Gunn has already announced that it's his last film, and when James is done, I'm done.” With Bautista and Gunn on the way out, many will likely still want to see the series go on without them, but it would probably be best if Guardians wraps after Vol. 3. The series certainly wouldn't be the same without them, especially since Gunn has been the mastermind behind the trilogy from the beginning, and Bautista has provided much of its signature comic relief as Drax. With Guardians of the Galaxy 3 set to wrap up many of the character’s arcs, perhaps Bautista is right and their journeys will come full circle.
  15. ThunderCats fans are not prepared for what Adam Wingard is planning for the movie, according to its co-writer Simon Barrett. Fresh off of Godzilla vs. Kong, Adam Wingard's next project will be a live-action adaptation of ThunderCats, the popular cartoon series from the 1980s that follows a group of feline-like humanoid aliens from the planet Thundera. Wingard's past installment in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise debuted to great success, despite its release this past March during the Covid-19 pandemic. The film grossed $427 million at the worldwide box office, breaking several pandemic records on its way to becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2021. START NOW Riding off this success, Wingard will be tackling another Japanese property with some franchise-starting potential. A ThunderCats movie has been stuck in development for quite some time now, hitting multiple roadblocks along the way. The project took a major step forward this year when Wingard signed on to direct and co-write a ThunderCats movie with his frequent collaborator, Simon Barret, for Warner Bros. Originally created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf, ThunderCats was a hit during its run from 1985 to 1989, leading to a video game and various comics. Soon, a live-action ThunderCats will be seen on the silver screen, yet it may not be what fans are expecting. RELATED:Space Jam 2: Every Warner Bros Character & World Confirmed (So Far) Talking to Comic Book, ThunderCats co-writer, Simon Barrett, says fans are not at all prepared for what Wingard has planned. The director has been a life-long fan of the animated series, so naturally he has been thinking about a movie adaptation for a long time. However, it was not until he was doing post-production work on the Hollow Earth scenes in Godzilla vs. Kong that he finally figured out how to make a ThunderCats movie work. Now, Barrett is teasing what Wingard has in store: I will say this, our ThunderCats adaptation is going to be really, really cool. I don't think people are at all prepared for how long Adam Wingard has spent thinking about ThunderCats. They are not ready for Adam's ThunderCats movie. It is going to destroy. Barrett's most recent film, Seance, which he wrote and directed, will debut in theaters and on-demand this Friday. Though Wingard was not involved in his upcoming horror film, the two have collaborated frequently in the past on horror films, like 2017's Blair Witch sequel, the slasher, You're Next, and The Guest. Since ThunderCats is clearly a passion project for Wingard, it will certainly be intriguing to hear more about what he and Barrett are planing for the movie adaptation. After Star Wars rewrote the book on tie-in toys and merchandising opportunities in 1977, ThunderCats was one of many properties in the 1980s to capitalize on the growing trend. If Wingard's ThunderCats film can do the same, it could become another long-running and lucrative franchise for Warner Bros
  16. A new Harry Potter fan video reimagined the adult cast with American actors, and it's incredibly convincing. The film adaptions of J.K. Rowling's beloved bestselling books, catapulted the franchise to new levels of success by breathing life into the iconic story. Credit is in large part due to the stellar casting choices from a largely British talent pool. Producers of the movies and J.K. Rowling herself were strongly against casting American actors in the coveted roles. Of course, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was directed by Chris Columbus, a native of Pennsylvania, who suggested some red-white-and-blue talent for the first film. For instance, his powerhouse friend, Robin Williams, was apparently a Warner Bros. frontrunner for Hagrid in the early stages. The video then throws in some quick cuts of: Steve Buscemi as Argus Filch, Shia LaBeouf as the Knight Bus Conductor, Frances McDormand as Professor Pomona Sprout, Sam Rockwell as Gilderoy Lockhart, and even Leonardo DiCaprio as Barty Crouch, Jr. The least believable cameo was also the most hilarious. Timothée Chalamet jumping up and down on a bed as Dobby is something the wizarding world never knew it needed. The deepfake clip elicits tons of double takes, with many of the American stars looking nearly identical to the actual Harry Potter cast. Jon Hamm as Lucius is perhaps the most convincing. The Mad Men leading man and Jason Isaacs, who played Malfoy's malevolent dad, are considered celebrity doppelgÀnger's in real life. If someone had to touch Alan Rickman's golden performance, many agreed that Adam Driver would make a wonderful 2021 Snape. Overall, the comments section was abuzz with the thought of Nicholas Cage as Voldemort. While no one can touch Ralph Fiennes' wickedly haunting performance, if "He Who Must Not Be Named" has to be re-named, Cage might make a pretty spirited choice
  17. Loki’s Tom Hiddleston divulges what he loves most about playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s God of Mischief. When Hiddleston originally auditioned for 2011’s Thor it was to play its titular character; however, Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh thought his charisma, versatility, and perhaps lack of Chris Hemsworth's build, would lend better to Loki. Despite their initial confidence in the actor, no one could’ve predicted he’d go on to play the fan-favorite for over a decade. Loki became the MCU’s big bad in 2012’s The Avengers, establishing Thor’s envious, yet charismatic, and empathetic adopted brother as one of the universe’s most memorable and intriguing villains. His resulting popularity is the reason Loki survived 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. The original plan was to have Loki die but test audiences refused to believe the trickster couldn’t cheat death at least once. After reprising his role in Thor: Ragnarok, Hiddleston’s seemingly redeemed character finally met his demise at the hand of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Hiddleston will play an alternate version of Loki in his first solo outing on Disney+ — something he’s just as passionate about as he was playing the character 11 years ago. START NOW RELATED:MCU Theory: Loki Becomes More Evil (Because He's Shown Infinity War Death) According to EW, Loki director Kate Herron organized a seminar, “Loki School,” so the creative team could learn about the character from Hiddleston, who talked in detail about his time in the MCU. During the process, Owen Wilson, who plays Mobius in the series, asked Hiddleston what he loves most about playing Loki. Read Hiddleston's response below: I think it's because he has so much range. I remember saying this to him: On the 88 keys on the piano, he can play the twinkly light keys at the top. He can keep it witty and light, and he's the God of Mischief, but he can also go down to the other side and play the heavy keys. And he can play some really profound chords down there, which are about grief and betrayal and loss and heartbreak and jealousy and pride. Hiddleston went on to express how grateful he is to be a part of the MCU, saying he feels a sense of responsibility to do his best playing Loki. For Hiddleston, the experience of revisiting a previous version of Loki is likely nostalgic, reminding him of the days he spent studying Loki’s history across Marvel Comics and mythology. The character Hiddleston plays in Loki is one who knows nothing of his arc beyond The Avengers and still feels he’s destined to rule...among other things. The show’s Loki escaped custody with the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame’s time heist. Loki will introduce the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization tasked with monitoring and protecting the flow of time. The TVA arrests Loki at the beginning of the series, wanting his help fixing all the mayhem he caused while on the run with the Tesseract. As Agent Mobius, a TVA analyst, Wilson’s character is meant to know everything about Loki. Like his banter with Thor, Loki’s relationship with Mobius should be a cornerstone of the series. We’ll likely see many sides of the already multifaceted Loki now that he's finally uncoupled from the God of Thunder. Regardless of what we see, one will ever know or love Loki more than Hiddleston.
  18. Director Zack Snyder says he banned chairs from the Army of the Dead set. The new zombie movie released in select theaters May 14 and is set to debut on Netflix May 21. Anticipation for Army of the Dead is high as the director is coming off the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, which released in March 2021. Army of the Dead marks Snyder's return to the zombie genre after his 2004 remake Dawn of the Dead. Though the two films aren't connected, it's nonetheless an exciting development for those who enjoy the director's work. Army of the Dead stands apart from Dawn of the Dead thanks to its heist elements—the movie centers on a group of mercenaries who team up to rob a Las Vegas casino in the middle of an outbreak. Though the response to Army of the Dead has so far been mixed, Netflix is committed to turning the property into a full fledged franchise. A prequel film, Army of Thieves, has already completed filming. An anime series is also in the works. That show is also set before the movie and will feature several members of the Army of the Dead cast reprising their roles. START NOW RELATED: Army Of The Dead's Opening Homages Zombieland More Than Watchmen Recently appearing on Playlist's The Fourth Wall podcast, Snyder talked about making Army of the Dead. During the conversation, he mentioned chairs were banned from the set, though he provided an explanation for the decision: There’s no sitting down, like, I banned chairs from the set. But the nice thing is, it’s really intimate. I can just talk to the actors right there, I’m not back in a monitor across the room. It was definitely the most purely engaged I’ve been making a movie. The practice of banning chairs from movie sets has become a controversial topic over the last year. In June 2020, Christopher Nolan faced some backlash over comments made by Anne Hathaway indicating "Chris also doesn’t allow chairs." She stated Nolan's reasoning is "if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working." A spokesperson for Nolan soon denied the ban, sharing Hathaway was referring to the directors chairs that Nolan "chooses not to use," and stating that others on set are free to "sit wherever and whenever they need and frequently do." Considering the negative response to Hathaway's claims about Nolan, it's a little surprising to hear Snyder talk about a chair ban himself, especially so definitively. When Nolan was under fire for his alleged ban, many pointed out the practice was unfair to those unable to stand for long periods of time due to health conditions. However, like Nolan, Snyder seems to be suggesting he personally doesn't use a chair rather than saying no one else is allowed to use one. Still, "banned" is a strong word, and it's possible Snyder will face some backlash for his comments about Army of the Dead.

The Avengers Campus will feature a slew of new dining, riding, and interactive experiences for guests. A brand new Ant-Man themed restaurant, "Pym Test Kitchen," will be the feature dining option of the park, cast members will sport brand new superhero themed uniforms, and, of course, the WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure will be one of the main attractions. The Spider-Man ride will take guests on a wild adventure to fight against rogue Spider-Bots and will feature an appearance from Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland. As if that weren't exciting enough, Disneyland is throwing in another major feature to the ride. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. The ride will actually be able to detect and recognize guests' arm movements, so they can do the web shooting themselves without the use of the usual plastic toy guns and blasters. For guests who want a more interactive and realistic experience, they will be able to purchase a WEB Power Band, which looks like an enlarged version of a classic Spider-Man webshooter. Those who want to get even more out of the ride can add special accessories to the band that will give them additional powers and advantages, mimicking the powers of Iron Man, Rescuer, or Ghost Spider. Check out the webshooters below: These Spider gadgets will give the riders a special advantage against others within the game. With the WEB Power Band, they will have the opportunity to shoot multiple webs at once. Riders can pick from a variety of Ghost Spider electro-dynamic webs for additional Spider-Man abilities or they can even become Marvel's Iron Man or Rescuer if they choose to go with the repulsor blast option. The web shooters light up and make noises outside of the game while in standard mode, which means guests will get more than a one-time use out of them. One can dominate the Web Slingers Spider-Man ride and take home a unique souvenir. Disneyland's Web Slingers ride will certainly be a game changer, with a unique immersive experience that will be hard to top. It is something that Disneyland also very much needs, as they struggle to regain losses after a nearly year-long closure. They started off on the right foot by introducing a new Snow White Enchanted Wish ride with their April 30th reopening. However, this Avengers Campus could really push them over the edge, offering guests an experience like none other. As many more continue to get vaccinated and the country opens up, Disneyland will be welcoming in swarms of people who have spent the last year in quarantine and are aching for an extraordinary experience. With their new interactive webshooters, it seems Disneyland is off to great start in welcoming the vaccinated, post-quarantine crowds this summer.
  20. Sung Kang reveals how the process of delivering Justice for Han in Fast & Furious 9 began. After the character's presumed death, he returns to The Fast Saga to join Dom's crew as they battle it out with Jakob and Cipher. But aside from the impending clash between the Toretto brothers, Han's return is one of the most anticipated plot lines in F9 especially considering how his murder has been handled in Fate of the Furious. After more than two years of delay primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is finally hitting theaters in June. Initial reactions for F9 have made their way online and while the general consensus claims that it's a perfectly enjoyable flick that delivers on big action sequences and family drama, there has been very little said about what can be expected from Han's return. Lin previously revealed that one of the reasons he decided to return to The Fast Saga is to deliver justice for Han — something that has been pushed by fans and eventually supported by some cast members. START NOW RELATED: The Fast And The Furious Franchise Has Way Better Titles In Japan In a new interview with People, Kang details how exactly Lin's intention to follow through with Justice for Han in F9. Apparently the director didn't know that there was a push for the idea and was only made aware of it when they reunited at the anniversary of Better Luck Tomorrow — their first film together. Eventually, Lin called him back and told him that there might be a way to bring back Han in The Fast Saga. We were at the 15th anniversary of Better Luck Tomorrow, and somebody had brought up this #JusticeForHan. And Justin wasn't aware of it, because I don't think he had seen 7 or 8, so he didn't understand what all that was about. We were always talking about it, going where could Han continue in that universe? We were also okay with just letting Han sleep. It's been a wonderful exit. He died multiple times, come on. Enough, right? But I think just the way the stars were aligned, the fans felt like there was some type of closure that was not given to them and there was this injustice. It's all fun and games, but it's also part of the Hollywood romance to be in love with a movie, a franchise or characters in a film. When Justin got the opportunity to start directing [F9], he was like, "Hey, just somehow we've got to bring Han back." Then he figured it out and he called me. It was wasn't like this surprise, it was more like, "Hey, we get an opportunity to go play again and we get to see our old friends." Now there's purpose behind it, because you're not doing it just for yourself, there's a whole fan base that legitimized your work over the years. So how wonderful is that to have purpose, to say that you're fighting for justice and a belief for this Asian character. It's awesome. Han actually originated from Better Luck Tomorrow. Lin previously introduced the character in his 2002 Asian-American-focused film before bringing him to The Fast Saga when he was tapped to helm The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Kang's role wasn't actually the primary lead of the movie but he was the enforcer of the troubled teens. While there's no official confirmation, both Lin and Kang said that Better Luck Tomorrow's Han is the same as the one in the Fast & Furious films. What's interesting is that the 2002 film motivated both instances of Han's entry in The Fast Saga. While it's currently uncertain how Lin plans to accomplish Justice for Han, it's possible that the whole plotline won't be totally resolved in Fast & Furious 9. As it is, Deckard Shaw, who was behind the attempted murder is not appearing in the film, so it would be difficult to hold him accountable. That said, with two more films confirmed, this is something that can play out throughout the rest of The Fast Saga's run.
  21. Actor Kevin Bacon has revealed that Tremors is the only film of his that he’s rewatched. The 62-year-old star has enjoyed an extensive career over the years, engaging audiences through a wide range of films in diverse genres. He’s also been a prolific musician, releasing six studio albums alongside his brother Michael in their folk rock outfit The Bacon Brothers. Bacon got his feature film start in 1978’s Animal House, a film that is widely considered a comedy classic. Yet, despite this, as well as his role as Jack in the first Friday the 13th film, it wasn’t until 1984’s Footloose that audiences truly began to take notice of Bacon. That film – which was nominated for 2 Oscars and rebooted in 2011 to lukewarm reviews – brought Bacon into a new stage of his career. It wasn’t as though everything he touched from that point on was a hit, but gradually Bacon began to become known as the sort of actor who could (and would) pop up in practically anything. In other words, Bacon’s reputation for different challenges in the roles he took had given him a distinct reputation. When the 1990s kicked off, Bacon took that reputation even further by starring as Valentine McKee in the unlikely hit creature feature, Tremors. START NOW RELATED:Friday The 13th: How Kevin Bacon's Death Scene Was Shot Today, Bacon’s career continues to be a strong one and fans are always eager to see what’s next. His ability to keep moving and evolving has undoubtedly been a great help to his career over the years, and Bacon recently told Esquire that when it comes to his films, he doesn’t look back at all. However, this credo includes one exception: his role in Tremors. According to Bacon, the rather unconventional horror film is the only film of his he’s ever rewatched: It was one film of mine that I wanted to revisit that character. I don't look back at all. In fact, Tremors is the only movie of mine that I have rewatched since it's come out. The idea that a film like Tremors, which focuses on underground dwelling worms terrorizing a small, desert community is the only film of his that Bacon has bothered to rewatch, is surprising. After all, Bacon’s resume contains more than a few critically acclaimed films, such as Frost/Nixon, Mystic River and Apollo 13 – none of which he’s bothered to revisit. So why the extra love for Tremors? It could be said that the film is one of the most popular films of his among fans, and as such, he’s often asked about it. Tremors was released over thirty years ago and rewatching it could have helped sharpen his memory. Most likely, however, it all had to do with Bacon’s desire to return to the Valentine character. Unfortunately, despite interest from Blumhouse, a new Tremors film didn’t materialize, nor did a TV series when that idea was pitched. What did materialize, was a 2018 TV reboot of the film. The TV reboot of Tremors was quite well-received for the most part, and Bacon still feels like there’s potential for a TV series. Whether this eventually materializes is hard to say, but Bacon fans have learned over the years to never count the actor out. With his eclectic tastes and willingness to sign on to intriguing films regardless of budget, Bacon’s career remains an impressive one, irrespective of whether or not he chooses to rewatch his work.
  22. New promotional images have begun surfacing from Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman offering fans a new look at the redesigned Batmobile of the film including fiery exhausts and bright headlights. Acting as a reboot of the titular hero's film franchise, the story centers on a young Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, as he explores the corruption in Gotham City in his second year of fighting crime as well as hunting down a serial killer known as The Riddler. Robert Pattinson leads an ensemble cast in the titular role alongside Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Zoë Kravitz. Development on a new solo Batman film has been underway for seven years, with the original plan to have it be tied to the DC Extended Universe and Ben Affleck set to direct, produce, star and co-write with Geoff Johns. However, after struggling with the script, production on Justice League and his private addictions, Affleck stepped down from both the project and the role and Reeves cast Pattinson as the Dark Knight in May 2019. Production on the film and its release has hit multiple speed bumps due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but is currently set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. START NOW RELATED: The Batman: Everything We Know About Robert Pattinson's Batcave DR Movie News took to its Twitter account to unveil the new promotional poster leaked from the film with the new look at the Batmobile. The batch of leaked photos also included a more detailed and close-up look at Pattison's titular hero and his Batsuit from the forthcoming film. The images can be viewed below: The titular hero's vehicles have always been one of the more exciting gadgets in his arsenal to witness on screen, but the Batmobile is certainly the most iconic and the one with the most redesigns across the on-screen media. From the odder bubble-like car of the Adam West era to the transforming tank from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, there have been countless great uses of the vehicle but rarely one that felt memorable or had a purpose for more than a couple of minutes. Given Wright's comments about how the Batmobile is "special" and really drew him to the project, it seems safe to say that the vehicle will be used in a more meaningful manner for the next film. Even if Warner Bros. comes out and shuts down the poster as strictly fan art, it's hard to imagine the Batmobile seen on it being that far off from the film's depiction of it. While fans can continue debating whether the new design of Dano's Riddler is terrifying or underwhelming, there shouldn't be any denying the muscled-up Batmobile is sure to wow when it arrives. Audiences will have to wait and see how the final result turns out when The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
  23. DC’s Batgirl movie will reportedly be released straight to HBO Max. There have been talks of a Batgirl movie from Warner Bros. for years now with various writers and directors attached. The most notable being Joss Whedon who exited the project in 2018, paving the way for Birds of Prey writer, Christina Hodson, to pen the script. Today, it was announced that Bad Boys for Life directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, will helm the project and Cruella’s Kristin Burr will produce. Though DC’s comics originally introduced Batgirl as the alter alias of Betty Kane in 1961, the character was later reintroduced in the Adam West Batman series as Barbara (Yvonne Craig), the daughter of Gotham City Commissioner, Jim Gordon. Though the character has not appeared in a live-action movie since she was portrayed by Alicia Silverstone in Joel Schumacher’s notorious Batman & Robin, Batgirl has remained a fan-favorite character. While she will finally be getting a solo outing, it does not sound like it will be playing in theaters. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED:Batgirl: 10 Best Villains For The HBO Max Movie According to THR, DC’s Batgirl movie is “being planned as a movie for HBO Max.” Though the report does not offer any more details than that, it certainly sounds like Batgirl is being developed as an HBO Max original film, which there have only been a few of since the streaming service’s launch a year ago, with Seth Rogen's An American Pickle being the first and the COVID-themed movie, Locked Down, to follow. Zack Snyder’s Justice League was undoubtedly HBO Max’s biggest release, and perhaps Warner Bros. is looking to build off its success with more original films made exclusively for the streaming platform. While Wonder Woman 1984 was the first DC film to premiere simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters as part of Warner Bros. overall release strategy for 2021, James Gunn’s Suicide Squad will be next. But DC has not yet made a film exclusively for HBO Max outside of the Snyder Cut. The film’s producer, Kristin Burr, referenced Batgirl as being “part of the DC universe,” though it is currently unclear if Batgirl will be set in the DC Extended Universe, the DCEU’s Earth-2 such as Matt Reeves’ Batman, or stand completely on its own. While some will likely be disappointed Batgirl will not be getting a theatrical release, DC is still offering plenty to get excited for.
  24. Elizabeth Olsen is excited for everyone to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, particularly for fans' reaction to its connection with WandaVision. Marvel Studios' inaugural Disney+ series put the focus on Wanda and her traumas on the heels of losing Vision in Avengers: Infinity War. Instead of the usual MCU fare, however, the show took a unique storytelling approach by incorporating sitcom elements in it. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was officially announced during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 where WandaVision was also announced. Aside from the narrative connection between the Phase 4 projects, MCU architect, Kevin Feige, also revealed that Wanda Maximoff will appear in the Benedict Cumberbatch-led sequel. Because of this, there were assumptions that the future Sorcerer Supreme will appear in the Disney+ series; that didn't happen, although there were previous plans for this that were ultimately scrapped. Now, the pair's proper meeting is coming on the big screen instead. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW RELATED: Scarlet Witch Almost Got Her "Happy" Life With Vision In Civil War Speaking with Glamour Spain (via Explica), Olsen teases what can be expected from the Sam Raimi-directed blockbuster due to release in 2022. While the actress understandably can't get into spoiler territory, she expresses her excitement for the WandaVision part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, saying: Every Marvel movie is unique and this one is sure to surprise fans. I can’t wait to see your reaction, especially when it comes to the WandaVision part. Although WandaVision was positively received overall, the lack of a big MCU cameo, especially during its final episodes didn't sit well with some. The series was expected to be the franchise-shaking event that would lead to the further exploration of the multiverse in Phase 4. But in the end, it was a character-driven show that stayed true to its core narrative until the very end. Doctor Strange was indirectly mentioned, however, despite not appearing, with Agatha Harkness revealing that Scarlet Witch is more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme. The post-credits scene is also set to factor in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Wanda further studied the Darkhold, unknowingly teaching herself dark magic. It's currently uncertain how exactly Doctor Strange and Wanda's paths will cross in the upcoming MCU blockbuster. But since the Masters of the Mystic Arts are tasked to protect Earth from mystical threats, it's possible that the sorcerer seeks Scarlet Witch himself to educate her about the Darkhold. From there, it will be interesting to see what their dynamic will be, especially since Wanda would be motivated to reach out to her kids who were in distress in the WandaVision stinger. This could mean that they have a more contentious relationship at the start of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which can eventually become an alliance.
  25. James Gunn wrote the biggest action scene of his career for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in The Suicide Squad. The next movie in the ever-changing DCEU will arrive on a wave of eager anticipation, as fan favorite director Gunn revitalizes the Suicide Squad for the big screen. The team's previous cinematic venture, 2016's Suicide Squad, stumbled in its execution and failed to win over fans. As a result, Gunn is nearly starting over from scratch with The Suicide Squad, keeping only a handful of characters from the previous film to tell the story of a dangerous mission on the island of Corto Maltese. Continue Scrolling To Keep ReadingClick the button below to start this article in quick view. START NOW One of these characters is Harley Quinn, who remains a standout within the DCEU. Robbie first played Harley for Suicide Squad and later reprised the role in Birds of Prey. In The Suicide Squad, Harley will join forces with a new Task Force X, and the early glimpses at her via trailers and pictures have teased a very different style than the ones she embodied in previous movies. Gunn has spoken frequently about his love of the Harley Quinn character, and he's shared his excitement at having audiences see what The Suicide Squad has in store for her. RELATED: Suicide Squad 2: Why Harley Quinn Has Changed So Much Evidently, that will include a massive action scene. As part of AP's summer movie preview, wherein select directors share highlights of their project, Gunn spoke specifically about Robbie's many talents (which apparently do not include singing). The writer-director praised Robbie's athleticism, which he said led to him writing "the biggest action scene I’ve ever done" specifically for Robbie and Harley. Gunn said: “She can do anything. Or I thought she could do anything. And then one day she had to sing and I said, ‘OK, well you can do everything but one thing.’ But she’s such a great actress. She embodies the character. She’s able to do the comedy. She’s able to do the drama. And physically, she is a pure athlete and is able to do these stunts in such a graceful, magnificent, beautiful way. And so I wrote the biggest action scene I’ve ever done all around (Robbie’s character) Harley, and it was so fun to create just on every level from working with the stunt guys all the way through to working with her. It’s probably my favorite four minutes of film I’ve ever shot before.” Gunn didn't specify just how said action scene goes down in The Suicide Squad, but it seems likely that it is the Harley scene that Robbie previously teased at DC FanDome, which she said beat her up. The Suicide Squad trailers have teased a colorful, whirlwind battle for Harley, and that could be the one in question. Birds of Prey in particular featured some standout fight scenes for Harley, so it will be interesting to see how The Suicide Squad's stacks up. It says a lot that Gunn is calling it the biggest he's written, seeing as he wrote both Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Even aside from the Harley Quinn scene, The Suicide Squad promises to have some wild action beats. The trailer confirmed the team will go up against the giant starfish Starro, and its R rating for "strong violence" certainly indicates this won't be a watered down comic book movie. Seeing as Harley is one of the most well-known characters featured in The Suicide Squad, it makes sense that she would get a standout action sequence. Whether she survives it - and the rest of the movie, for that matter - remains to be seen. After all, Gunn has made it perfectly clear that everyone is expendable. Don't get too attached.
