  2. Emily Blunt responded to long-standing Fantastic Four casting rumors. It is now well-known that Blunt turned down the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2, and since then, her name has been attached to the MCU. 20th Century Fox was responsible for the Fantastic Four's cinematic debut in 2005, a less than serious take Marvel's First Family, which led to the 2007 sequel subtitled, Rise of the Silver Surfer, before the franchise fizzled out. Fox tried to reboot Fantastic Four in 2015, but the film was a commercial and critical flop. Marvel Studios acquired the rights to Fantastic Four in Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, and since then, the Mouse House has been looking to revitalize the flailing franchise. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel head, Kevin Feige confirmed that a Fantastic Four movie was in development, and later it was announced Jon Watts, the director known for all three of the MCU’s Spider-Man movies, would helm. The project has been rather quiet since then, but there has been no shortage of fan castings. For a while now, real-life couple, Emily Blunt and John Krasinki, have been popular choices for Sue Storm and Reed Richards, since both actors have been linked to the MCU in the past (Krasinski screen-tested for the role of Captain America). Now, during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Blunt is responding to these long-standing Fantastic Four casting rumors. While fans have been clamoring to see Blunt and Krasinski cast as the Invisible Woman and the super stretchy Mr. Fantastic, Blunt unequivocally dispelled any rumors about herself or her husband potentially appearing in Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. When asked if the genre was beneath her, the Quiet Place star was rather blunt, when voicing her dislike of superhero movies. Read her full response below: That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’ ... It’s not that it’s beneath me. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.—it would’ve been amazing … but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t.
  3. Despite building an Instant Kill mode into Spider-Man's Iron Spider suit, Tony Stark never added one to his Iron Man armors. The reason for that speaks to several things about Tony's personality as well as his dynamic with Peter Parker after the events of Captain America: Civil War and perhaps also his morbid fear of helplessness in the face of impending doom. Introduced in Civil War by Tony as a battle nerf to try and de-escalate Captain America, Spider-Man was immediately burdened with Stark's over-bearing protective instincts. He may have been presented throughout the MCU as "the next Iron Man", but his self-appointed mentor went to great lengths to protect his young charge. The Iron Spider itself was just one part of Tony's plan to keep Spider-Man as safe as possible, even as he intended to invite him to become an Avenger at the end of Homecoming. Significantly, Stark seemed to be more interested in the protection of Peter Parker than he did in self-preservation.
  4. Army of the Dead star, Ana de la Reguera, has praised Zack Snyder’s dedication to his fans in a Screen Rant exclusive interview. The director’s upcoming zombie heist movie stars Reguera alongside Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Theo Rossi, Raúl Castillo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Samantha Win, Garret Dillahunt, and Huma Qureshi. Army of the Dead is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on May 14, followed by a Netflix streaming release on May 21. Though he’s been known best in recent years for his dark and gritty comic book adaptations like Watchmen and Justice League, Snyder’s Hollywood stardom began when he directed a remake of George A. Romero’s classic horror film, Dawn of the Dead in 2004. That remake earned notable praise from critics and fans of the genre, leading to Snyder’s work on bigger-budget projects like 300. Army of the Dead is his first time returning to the world of zombies since Dawn of the Dead, though the two films have no direct narrative connection.ollows him from one project to the next – a fan base the director engages with actively at conventions and on digital platforms like Vero. In a Screen Rant exclusive interview, Army of the Dead star, Ana de la Reguera, praised Snyder for his enthusiasm and the relationship he’s built with his fans. “He is just like a kid enjoying his work,” Reguera said. “And there's nothing nicer than seeing someone that loves what he does.” She then commented on what a unique filmmaker Snyder is, addressing the fans directly: [EXCLUSIVE] He does also think about the fans a lot. You guys are the core of what [he does]. I couldn't believe it when I was looking at the trailer. I was looking at the comments on YouTube channels, what they say about it, and you guys just look into every single detail. You don't take anything for granted, and he doesn't either. I think it's kind of like a collaboration between you guys. That's what I felt. And I've never been in this situation, where the fans adore this filmmaker so much. I think he knows it, and he feeds this, and he just wants you guys to be happy. I don't know; it's very interesting to watch. Snyder’s fans are a huge reason, if not the main reason, why the director’s cut of Justice League finally saw the light of day on HBO Max earlier this year. Supporters of his DCEU campaigned for years to see the original intended product, which finally released to generally positive reviews. The release is an unprecedented display of fan influence on a major blockbuster, and it’s a testament to the relationship Snyder has built with his viewers. After so many years knee-deep in the DCEU, it should be exciting to see Snyder trying a different genre on in Army of the Dead. Early reviews for the film have been somewhat mixed, but overall they praise its flashy style and fun twists on traditional zombie stories. Army of the Dead currently holds a 77 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Rick Stevenson is a writer, editor and performer based in Brooklyn, NY.
