Video Player Suggestions for Remuxes

Recommended Posts

I've been using the media classic player for a long time and never had issues playing videos. When I started getting remuxes, every time I play them on the mcp it lags. Is it my computer or is it the player that has the problem? If there are any suggestions as to what would be a preferred player please let me know. Honestly my first time playing videos as large as 25gb as I usually play movies around 720p at around 2-6gbs in size per video. Also had the same issue of lag on VLC as well. Thanks for everyone's time and hope to get some feedback!

VLC always seems like the gold standard of video players. Are you using the latest version / 64-bit version? Are you able to see if you're bottlenecked somewhere?

Are you on a networked drive? If so, can the network support the load?

I've never had an issue with VLC. Could you have turned on some of the more advanced VLC settings, some of them will force higher CPU usage.

I was told VLC was the more commonly used player so that's the reason why I went with it. I downloaded the latest version (64-bit) and played the movies as it was without messing with any of the configuration (played literally after installation). Am I supposed to do anything special to play x265 or x264 files? Sorry, I'm not very good with these kind of technicalities. Thanks for your reply by the way @Genghis.

For VLC try changing your File Caching (ms) to at least 1000. (It's in Settings All -> Input/Codecs)

And change Hardware decoding to Automatic. (It's in Settings All -> Input/Codecs -> Video Codecs -> FFmpeg)

Don't forget to restart VLC for these settings to take effect.

Also make sure to always have the latest codecs.

Try K-Lite
