Fallout 2. Today's Fallout games don't even come close to it.

Ill second this. Bethesda dumbs down their games and make them supper accessible twords the normies (tho the hardened rpg player can still relax and enjoy them aswell). Proper rpgs are a niche (with a few notable exceptions), Bethesda's aims aren't to create a proper rpg, instead to create a game that covers the widest possible playerbsae and they do a damn good job at it. The reason Bethesda is loved so much is because most people's first rpg nowadays tends to be from Bethesda. The result is people tend have nostalgia when they think of Bethesda titles because it was their first or only rpg so they prop the games up and act like they are better then they are.

Luckily the fan base and modding community for this game is alive and kicking. Numerous mods have been made and new ones are still in development. Even Van Buren, the never finished real Fallout 3, is being remade in unity engine by fans . Hopefully this will see the light of day.

A game that even after 20 years is still loved and played by fans. Truly amazing.

@deepdigger  I'm planning to play Morrowind for the first time, never got around playing it. I did play Oblivion a couple of months ago and loved it and Skyrim ofc, too, when it got released back in 2011. So I'm kind of going backwards when it comes to TES games heh.

One of my favourites is still GTA San Andreas, I had so much fun in that game. Endless hours wasted trying to get the gangs to attack each other, then the police would should up and I'd see how long I could survive with 5 stars. And also, still to this day I remember this sentence: "All you had to do was follow the damn train CJ".

Good times.
