  2. He said "I'll be back," and he wasn't lying: Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to the role that made him famous in the upcoming "Terminator: Genesis." But as MTV News found out when we sat down with the actor to discuss his upcoming movie "Sabotage," some things have changed. Arnold Schwarzenegger Teases Action-Packed 'Terminator 5' Twists "It will be challenging because it will be a new director, and it will be a really action packed movie," Schwarzengger said of the movie, which starts shooting in April. "And sometimes it does get more difficult when you're 66 years old and doing this kind of action, versus when you're in your 30s or in your 40s." Which brings up an interesting question. "Terminator" introduced Schwarzenegger's time-traveling killer robot in 1984, when the actor was a mere 37 years old. He last played the T-800 model in the 2003 threequel "Terminator: Rise of the Machines," which was over a decade ago. And robots don't age — right? "The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath," Schwarzenegger continued. "It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages." As far as we know, this is a new wrinkle in the continuity of the "Terminator" franchise, and potentially one to accommodate the self-admittedly older Arnold. So we'll get to see an older robot, and not a younger one Ô right? "Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800," Schwarzenegger added, blowing our minds, "and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets ahold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie, but I feel so good." We're also feeling good about this, as the "Terminator" series has been far more concerned with robot-fueled action than the actual mechanics of time travel. It's been a constant in the series through every iteration except for "Terminator Salvation;" which was also the one entry in the series that didn't feature Arnold (though his CGI head and body did show up at one point); but never the focus. "I was upset that I couldn't be in the fourth Terminator, because I was Governor," Schwarzenegger remembered. "So they did the fourth one without me, it made me cry a little bit. But I did say, 'I'll be back,' so now I'm back again and it's going to be really terrific." "Terminator: Genesis" will hit theaters on July 1, 2015. "Sabotage" is in theaters on March 28. source:mtv
  3. Rixton have already showed us that they are talented musicians, but in their latest music video, the guys are about to show us that they're pretty good actors, too. The U.K. band is set to release the video for "Me and My Broken Heart," the lead single off their recently released EP, on Wednesday (March 26) on MTV. Do Rixton Get Naked In Their Video For 'Me And My Broken Heart'? The foursome invited MTV News behind the scenes of the shoot, which took place at a Los Angeles boxing ring, to get an inside look at what fans can expect. "This girl kind of sets us up and we invest our own money in a poker game and we get set up, like, ripped off," lead singer Jake Roche said. "We wanted to make like a Guy Ritchie-type film and get our acting heads on." In what looks to be shaping up as quite the gambling story, the guys, who admitted they were having "the time of our lives" while on set, are seen around a poker table engaging in a high-stakes card game with a short-haired blonde woman, presumably the one who ripped them off. If you're expecting nudity, however, like we saw in their breakout hit, "Make Out," then you might be disappointed. The boys, who are MTV's Artist to Watch, are keeping things covered up since the song "has a bit more of emotion." "It's just totally the opposite of 'Make Out' — like, I am not naked and swinging on a wrecking ball. That would be weird," Roche said. Drummer Lewi Morgan added, "I don't think we wanted to ever step away from that ["Make Out" video] — we more wanted to show everybody a different side of us. We are still a lot of fun." source:mtv

  5. Microsoft is committed to expanding the Xbox One's digital marketplace functionality with new features like loaning and gifting downloaded titles, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told GameSpot in a new interview. Speaking with us from the 2014 Game Developers Conference last week in San Francisco, Spencer made it clear that digital will be a focus going forward. "We believe in a digital future on our box," Spencer said, making sure to point out that retail is important to the company as well. Spencer says Microsoft can maintain its business with traditional retailers while simultaneously beefing up its own digital initiatives. "On the digital space, and the things that we've talked about, what that opens up...like we understand what games you own and who you are and how you move around and who you might want to loan rights to your games or gift your games to," Spencer said. "We totally believe in that future. And any other marketplace you play in, these kind of mechanisms are out there." Indeed, Valve's Steam marketplace currently allows its 65 million users to gift games to friends. The company also recently introduced a Family Sharing program that lets users play one another's games and even earn their own achievements and save progress via the cloud. "We are now fully heads down on thinking about and building out the future of our digital marketplace to enable what people would expect, and hopefully some things that will delight them beyond their expectations" -- Spencer Microsoft originally planned to offer its own Family Sharing plan for Xbox One, which would have allowed users to share their titles with up to ten others from any console, but the company ditched this feature after it reversed a number of controversial Xbox One policies in June. This functionality, and other new features, appear to be ready for a comeback. "We are now fully heads down on thinking about and building out the future of our digital marketplace to enable what people would expect, and hopefully some things that will delight them beyond their expectations," Spencer said. Finally, Spencer yet again addressed the controversial few months Microsoft endured following the Xbox One announcement in May and its the policy reversals a month later after E3 last June. "I know when I say this I always get beat up, but I think some of what we were trying to say last summer was right," Spencer said. That said, Spencer made it clear that Microsoft could have done a better job in communicating the value of its since-reversed digital initiatives. This isn't the first time Spencer has addressed last summer's Xbox One controversy. Speaking at SXSW this month, Spencer said, "when you're going to say something to a consumer that might put them off, it's better to just be direct and honest, rather than trying to sugar-coat something that might be controversial." Also in our interview, Spencer talked about Microsoft's competition with Sony's PlayStation 4, saying "We are in this to win." source:gamespot

  10. Lorde may have sported a Cramps shirt on the cover of Rolling Stone, but don't except fellow deep-dark punk band the Black Lips to collaborate with her any time soon. According to guitarist Cole Alexander, "Royals" is his least favorite song — ever. "We'd probably say no [if Lorde asked us to collaborate]," Alexander told the A.V. Club as part of the publication's "Hatesong" column, in which musicians explicate why they're not down with a certain tune. "We've said no to stuff like that before. Sometimes I'll try to open myself because some things will be so ridiculous that I might actually do it, but I don't think I'd do it with her," he said. Ridiculous — and awesome — decisions include the band's stop at this year's Hangout Festival and their upcoming tour for Underneath the Rainbow, during which the band will pump manufactured smells into venues around the globe. Alexander emphasizes that he doesn't dislike Lorde herself, just the naïveté and style of the popular song. "It's hard to say I actually hate it, but it's a bit confused," he said, pointing to the familiar lyrics decrying pop stars' and rappers' fascination with Maybachs and diamonds. "Most of the people that are rapping about Maybachs and diamonds come from really 'torn-up towns,'" Alexander said. "I feel like they come from worse parts and they aspire to get Maybachs and diamonds because they come from ratchet-ass 'hoods where they have no hope. I think it's a bit righteous of her." Still, he amended, "I feel like she's got it a little bit confused. I also heard she's 17, so maybe she's naäve." The musician also points out that he's not down with Lorde's voice in general, opining, "I don't like the groove of it and all these singers they have this inflection in their voice — I can't even put my finger on it — on what it is, but they're trying to sing like they're trying to sing or something. It's not a natural voice." So I'm guessing a "Bad Kids"/"White Teeth Teens" mashup is out of the question, huh? Alexander also dug into a few other hated jams, including Drake and DJ Khaled's "No New Friends," saying that he doesn't hear any "pain in [Drake's] voice," and that he seems "fake to me." "I like my rappers more ghetto and ratchet sounding," he added. "Personally, I like more melodramatic, ignorant rap where they're talking about violence and anger and it's just evil. ... To me, it's just like a gangster movie. In a gangster movie, you don't want to see polite guys; you want to see them do horrible shit. It's a movie, it's entertainment, and, at the end of the day, music is entertainment." If you've seen the Black Lips' new video for "Boys In The Wood," that assertion should really come as no surprise. It's good, not bad — but more than kind of evil. Macklemore also came under fire for his hit song "Thrift Shop," which Alexander took issue with for its use of the word "h—ky." "My problem isn't the fact that he says 'honky,'" Alexander said. "It's that he puts 'honky' in a black person's mouth and they actually say it instead of him. He put a racist term into a black person's mouth and had it thrown back at him to satiate his white guilt." source:mtv
  11. Logan Lerman won't be returning to the role of Percy Jackson in a third film based on the long running YA fantasy series of the same name. In fact, a third movie won't be happening at all. "It's not happening," Lerman said when MTV News asked about a threequel at the junket for Darren Aronofsky's upcoming biblical fantasy "Noah." Lerman starred as the title character in 2010's "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," as well as last year's "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters." The first two movies followed the title character, the demigod son of Poseidon as he survived the life of a hero-in-training at Half-Blood Camp while battling the forces of the Titan Kronos. The award-winning "Percy Jackson: The Titan's Curse" would have been the next book in the series coming to the big screen — presumably in 2015 or 2016, if the pace of the first two films' release was continued — following Percy and his allies' attempts to rescue the goddess Artemis and Percy's long-time friend Annabeth from the clutches of their kidnappers. "It's been a great experience for me," Lerman said of the role. "It's opened up a lot of doors for me, but I don't think it's happening." One of those doors is playing the role of Ham, middle son of Noah (Russell Crowe) in Aronofsky's ("The Fountain") epic flood fantasy. It was a role that he wasn't even sure he'd be offered. "I was interested in this movie before I even knew what it was. I heard that Darren Aronofsky was making a film, and there [were] potentially two roles that I could play, and I was like, 'I'm in for either one of them.' " Initially, the actor went in to audition for the role of Shem (which would ultimately go to his co-star Douglas Booth), when the director asked him to read for the part of Ham. "It was actually the role I wanted more," Lerman says. "It's the role I liked more. There's a lot of tension between [Ham] and Noah throughout the script and I really responded to that." "Noah" will be in theaters March 28th. source:mtv

  15. When it comes to mining rap's underground for new talent, Lil Wayne's track record is golden. Running a label that boasts artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga hasn't curbed Weezy's expansion, not in the least bit. Lil Wayne Tells Us Who's Next On The Young Money Roster On March 11 Wayne dropped Young Money's Rise of an Empire, a label compilation that features contributions from YM veterans as well as new label artists like Chanel West Coast, PJ Morton and Christina Milian. Weezy is supportive of all of his artists, but excited about one YM rookie in particular. "We have my young boy Euro, and that's my secret weapon right there," Wayne boasted to MTV News while on set at the "Senile" video shoot in Los Angeles on March 12. Euro, who was born in the Dominican Republic but made his rap bones in Rhode Island, made a splash on Wayne's Dedication 5 mixtape last year and is featured on three tracks off of Rise of an Empire. It was his straight-to-the-point lyrical style that first attracted the YM Boss. The youngster held his own alongside Wayne on "We Alright" and even landed a solo track on the compilation titled "Induction Speech." Still, Tunechi promises that there is more in store. "Please, please, I tell the fans out there, don't judge the Young Money album as his starting, as his platform to start, because he's in the trigger," Wayne said so excitedly that he tripped up his gun metaphor. "He's in the barrel, loaded, and man, man, man, man, man." source:mtv

  17. Rock band Linkin Park has teamed up with Microsoft for what the company says is the first-ever remixable and interactive music video/video game hybrid. Built using Microsoft's ambitious Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC game-building tool Project Spark, the level "Guilty all the Same" features the band's new song, but that's only the beginning. Linkin Park says the "Guilty all the Same" level is only a starting template, with users able to create and share their own versions of the level. "Since I was a kid, I wanted to make games," Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda told Billboard in an interview about the project. Linkin Park's version of the game features a protagonist who is haunted by guilt and travels through a dark environment to escape, but players will be able to do whatever they want with the template. The idea for the interactive music video came after Linkin Park turntablist Joe Hahn attended E3 last summer and got to see Project Spark first-hand. "It just blew my mind," Hahn said. "For me, the next step was to see if we could showcase our next song as a game instead of a video." Some artists might not like the idea of allowing users to re-assemble their creative expression, but Shinoda and Hahn don't see it this way. "Mike and I met at art school, and we understand that once you make a piece of art and put it out there, people will interpret it their own way, and even re-interpret it as something else," Hahn said. "We've taken our turn, and now it's up to the fans," Shinoda added. "Even if it's silly, as long as it makes me laugh, I don't mind what people do with it." Project Spark is currently in beta and is available to download for free today for Xbox One and PC. The Xbox 360 version is coming later. source:mtv

  19. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson held a Twitter chat today in advance of the release of his "Hercules" trailer; but other than plugging the "original superhero" in his upcoming movie, another surprising detail came out about an upcoming role: While it's not a shocker that The Rock is collaborating with DC/Warner Bros. on an upcoming movie —: the actor confirmed as much back in January — what is interesting is that Mr. Johnson will be portraying a "never played" character. We're assuming that The Rock is referring to in a theatrical feature, as pretty much every DC Comics character ever has been put on screen in animated form, or on live-action TV. So that rules out Superman, Batman, Steel, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, and, er, Swamp Thing. Also Catwoman. Of that list, Green Lantern is the only one fans had The Rock pegged for, specifically the character's third iteration, John Stewart. Stewart popular on the animated "Justice League Unlimited," and is considered one of the more recognizable characters of the modern era. But as The Rock later confirmed, no, that's not the character you're looking for. The Rock has also been associated with Captain Marvel villain Black Adam (as he mentioned in his tweet), but that character, while "extremely complex" is far from well known. It's possible he could be referring to Justice League hero Cyborg, a half-man, half-machine who's been heavily featured recently in the comics, and on TV in "Teen Titans GO!" But again, it's not like Cyborg is a household name. No, we're going with Aquaman. The frequent butt of jokes from stand-up comics and human beings of all ages, Aquaman is the king of the undersea land of Atlantis, but also fights on land on the side of the Justice League. He's actually pretty complex, he's never been played before (other than by Adrien Grenier on "Entourage"), and who better to shut down any and all jokes about the him standing toe-to-toe with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the upcoming "Justice League" movie than The Rock? Nobody laughs at The Rock unless he wants you to. Nobody. It's also possible The Rock could be talking about something else entirely, like Guillermo del Toro's "Justice League Dark" movie, or even as The Sandman, in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's movie of the same name. And copious online speculation has The Rock playing Superman villain Lobo, based on a roundtable interview with online journalists where Johnson said the character, "had to be a bada-- motherf---er, okay, and on a Superman level of power, where could throw down." Yes, that's Lobo, who is stronger than Superman; but that could also be Johnson saying they needed to amp up the power level of Aquaman considerably. It's vague enough that the speculation could go either way. Still, with this simple tweet a Rock-powered DC Comics movie is one step closer to happening. source:mtv
  20. Microsoft director of product planning Albert Penello has spoken out to dispel an enduring rumor about the Xbox One. It's been suggested that the Xbox One features a second secret graphics processing unit (GPU) hidden somewhere in the system, but this is not true, Penello says. "I thought I had already said something about that. There is no 2nd GPU, there is no stacked GPU," Penello said on Twitter. Later writing on Reddit, Penello noted that Microsoft's recent Direct X12 announcement might have made the rumor re-appear. "I didn't think [the second GPU rumor] was festering because I thought I'd already commented on it. For some reason the DX12 announce seemed to make it resurface," he said. Regarding DX12 specifically, Penello said he's not that completely caught up on the new graphics API just yet, and so he's not sure how it will directly impact Xbox One. Still, he said players can expect advancements to performance over time on Xbox One. "I know we're continually improving our tools for developers, as we did with Xbox 360, so you'll see consistent performance improvements over time," he said. Last week, Microsoft said gamers can expect more Xbox One titles to run in 1080p over time as studios discover and improve upon development techniques. source:gamespot
  21. Strategy games--especially those of the 4X variety--can be extremely intimidating. All that exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating can lead to a lot of menu diving and calculating of appropriate empire taxation rates. Endless Legend, an upcoming 4X strategy game from Dungeon of the Endless developer Amplitude Studios, wants to retain what makes this genre fun while trimming away some of the more time-consuming chaff. In doing so, the game's creators have designed several creative tweaks for this well-worn genre that have me excited to try my hand at empire building once more. Advantage: horned tree monster. There's way too much going on in Endless Legend to explain it all here, but there are a few highlights that piqued my interest above the rest. The first is warfare. The game plays out across a randomly generated, hex-based map. As in other games, your military units are stacked as you march them across the map. When you enter battle, they unstack, and you command each unit individually. However, the battle doesn't take place on a separate screen; it's right there on the world map for all other players to see. This style gives you complete tactical control over your troops without making you individually shuffle dozens of units around on each turn. Another quirk of the world map is that it's divided into regions, and each region can support only one city at a time. This means settling within a region puts that region under your rule, and no other player may settle within its borders without dealing with you first. Of course, "dealing with you" can take many forms, such as razing your city or negotiating for its ownership. As Amplitude described it, this system was designed to curtail a dominant strategy used in other empire games where players build an infinite sprawl of cities as close to each other as possible, which in turn leads to extreme amounts of busywork managing those cities. The game's research tree is also split up in an interesting way. Technologies are divided into groups--like the different ages in Civilization--but the order in which you research technologies within the same group is completely freeform. Individual technologies within the same group do not have prerequisite technologies that need to be researched first, so you can quickly change strategies and adapt to what's happening in your empire. Once you research a certain number of technologies within a group, the next group of more powerful technologies will unlock. Even the end goal in Endless Legend is slightly off-kilter from the genre's norm. The planet you and the other players inhabit is dying. Winning is a matter of either escaping the planet or correcting the environmental instability that is killing it. Defeating the other players is just a means to an end, a stepping stone toward these larger goals. Only one player can escape the planet--leaving the others to their fate--but multiple players can join forces to analyze, understand, and ultimately rescue it. In the meantime, all players will be racked by sudden climate shifts, such as blizzards that strike with little warning and make the terrain more difficult to traverse. Units move across the map in stacks, until they enter battle. In battle, they fan out and you command them individually. Individually, free-flowing tech trees or regional world maps might not sound all that interesting, but when these features come together, they make for a grand strategy game that frees you up to feel like a ruler rather than a middle manager. At least, that's the promise of Endless Legend. Amplitude still has a long road ahead of it before the game's release, which it's hoping will be sometime later this year. While you wait, Amplitude encourages you to help take part in the game's development through its crowd-sourcing initiative on its website. source:gamespot

  23. There's been no visual proof that Frank Ocean actually ended up in Shanghai to record his sophomore album, like he wanted to, but at least we can be sure that he's recording, somewhere. Both Ocean and photographer Nabil posted a photo from the studio, on their respective Tumblr accounts. The 26-year-old, always a man of few words, didn't bother to include a caption, but Nabil confirmed that it was "Frank in the lab.. Making sophomore album game." There have been no official releases from the Channel Orange follow-up, but last summer Ocean debuted several new tracks during European shows. He hasn't addressed whether any of those will end up on the album, only saying that he was "10,11 songs into this next thing." In 2013 he told MTV News that he was binging on a few artists to get him in the zone for recording. "When I was making the first [album] there were a group of artists that I listened to, just for inspiration and to absorb the energies," he said. "It was a lot of Stevie Wonder, and this time it's a lot of Beach Boys and Beatles and whatnot, so we'll see how it trickles into the music and the final product. I can't say much other than that." Earlier this month, Chipotle targeted Frank Ocean with a lawsuit for backing out of a commercial last minute, but he wasn't into the drama, simply paying them to "f--k off," so he could get back to work. source:mtv
