  11. You can get your hands on the special collection this Friday A new video for The Beatles‘ ‘Back In The U.S.S.R’ has been unveiled to mark the upcoming anniversary of ‘The White Album’. Check out the clip below. The track appears on the Fab Four’s classic record, which was first released on November 22, 1968. This year marks the LP’s 50th anniversary. In the new visuals, lyrics from the single appear in green, handwritten scrawls across grainy footage of the band. Flicking rapidly through various locations – including Moscow’s Red Square – the clip ends with the group taking off in a plane. The video features the ‘2018 Mix’ of ‘Back In The U.S.S.R’, which will be included in the upcoming release. The milestone reissue of ‘The White Album’ was announced in September. A new edition of the iconic double record will be available in a series of “lavishly presented” packages with new mixes of its 30 tracks. It will also include 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session tracks, with many never officially released before. ‘The White Album’ anniversary collection will be available this Friday (November 9). Meanwhile, a new video for the ‘Ultimate Mix’ of John Lennon’s ‘Gimme Some Truth’ has been unveiled. The track has been given updated visuals, making Lennon’s lyrics all the more relevant as US citizens head to the mid-term polls. Earlier this year, Paul McCartney released his latest solo album, ‘Egypt Station’. Reviewing the record, NME said that “this latest glimpse into his life feels like a particularly enlightening one”.
  12. He dedicated 'Love Interruption' to the pair at his next show and encouraged the crowd to kiss their loved ones Jack White has said that he is “really disappointed” by a homophobic incident that took place at one of his gigs last week. The ‘Boarding House Reach‘ rocker was performing at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada on November 2, when attendee Allyson MacIvor was asked to stop kissing her friend. As CBS reports, White was performing the hit ‘Seven Nation Army’ when they were confronted by a member of staff. “I embraced my girlfriend, and some staff member came in between us, and she said, ‘This is not allowed here,'” MacIvor told the publication. “It was very violating and invasive,” she added. “It’s not something I’d ever imagine experiencing, honestly.” MacIvor said that the venue’s manager “apologised profusely” after the pair were escorted to them by the employee. However, she said, “it still didn’t help the incident and the hurt that came out of this”. Now, Jack White has responded in a statement on Instagram. Captioning an old photo of two women kissing at a Beatles concert in 1964, White said: “Its 2018 now and two people expressing affection shouldn’t have to hide.” After saying that news of the incident last week “really disappointed [him]”, he said that he dedicated the track ‘Love Interruption’ to the pair at his following show in Calgary – “and encouraged everyone in the crowd to kiss their loved ones”. “Let’s promote love and acceptance wherever and whenever we can,” White concluded. Meanwhile, last month saw Jack White lead a crowd in singing a Polish birthday song to his mother at his show in Warsaw.
  13. "Everyone deserves to hear me at my best" Richard Ashcroft has announced details of rescheduled gigs in London and Manchester, after being forced to postpone due to illness. The former Verve frontman has been on the road in support of his latest album ‘Natural Rebel‘. However, Ashcroft now pulled shows at Manchester’s Albert Hall on October 31 and The Forum in London on November 1 due to a throat infection. Now, Ashcroft’s website states that London date has now been rescheduled to Saturday December 22, while his Manchester show will now take place on Sunday December 23. Visit here for tickets and more information. “I want to say how disappointed i am to have to reschedule the upcoming Manchester and London shows,” he wrote on Instagram. “I was diagnosed by the Middlesbrough team doctor and he said the throat virus probably started before Glasgow. “It would have been easy to say we’ll just cancel Middlesbrough and Nottingham but the reason I was there is to play some cities like Middlesbrough that get passed on! It has really been hard to make this call but everyone deserves to hear me at my best. It hurts to think people have booked hotels etc, that’s the worst bit.” I know you was looking forward too.” Ashcroft has made headlines recently with a bizarre appearance on BBC Breakfast, as well as burning a copy of the NME, and claiming that the ‘sachet’ seen falling out of his sock during his appearance on Soccer AM is a “doctored” image. The singer was a guest on the show last month when viewers spotted what looked like a sachet appearing to fall out of his sock. He quickly swooped down to pick it up. A number of viewers soon shared footage on Twitter, suggesting that it was a small bag of drugs. “I don’t know how many national publications printed a picture that someone had sent in from online,” he said. “It’s strange when you have been in the game this long that this idea would take place. But to see the effects of a doctored photograph by an individual, who we don’t know who it is.But believe you me, you are going to regret doing that, whoever you are.” Ashcroft’s UK and Ireland tour dates are below. 14. Starboy teased that big things are ahead... The Weeknd has promised fans that his next album is in the works and will be “coming soon”. The Canadian artist released his third studio album, ‘Starboy‘, in 2016. It was followed by the surprise ‘My Dear Melancholy’ EP earlier this year. Reviewing the six-track collection, NME said: “Where ‘Starboy’ often drifted into forgettable airiness, his latest offering is tighter and more focused, with greater attention to detail.” Now, the musician – whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye – has updated fans on the progress of his next full-length. Speaking to the crowd during a show in his home city of Toronto, The Weeknd said: “I wanna let you guys know, being in Toronto these past two days
I haven’t been this inspired in years, I got to tell you.” Check out a clip of the moment below. Revealing that he’s “working on my [his] album right now”, Tesfaye promised: “‘Chapter 6’ coming soon, let’s get it!” Hinting at big things to come, the singer tweeted: “some chapters are smaller than others. not this next one though
” Earlier this year, The Weeknd said that he’d finished work on a “very upbeat” and “beautiful” album that will never be released. After saying that the shelved project was written “a different time” in his life, he added: “I don’t want to perform something that I don’t feel.” Meanwhile, it was reported last month that The Weeknd and Daft Punk are being sued over claims that they ‘ripped off’ a poet on the hit ‘Starboy’.
  15. "She’s so, so unbelievably happy" Ariana Grande‘s brother has praised the pop star for delivering a “powerful” and “confident” message with her new single ‘Thank U, Next’. The ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ singer released the surprise track last weekend, after teasing it on social media. The song references Grande’s ex-partners, including Mac Miller. “Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm / ’cause he was an angel,” Grande sings of the late rapper. Now, Grande’s brother has said that he cried after listening to the single’s poignant lyrics – adding that the star is “unbelievably happy” following its release. “I am unbelievably proud of my sister,” Frankie Grande told E! News. “This project that she has been working on, it’s from the heart. If you listen to the lyrics
I sobbed and I cried the first time she played it for me.” The reality star said that the line “
this one gon’ last, ’cause her name is Ari” left him particularly emotional, “because it’s a message of self-love”. “And if you don’t put yourself first, then no other relationship matters, and no other relationship is going to work. He added: “We are happy that she is happy, and the message is just so powerful. It’s helping other people, too. Like, she’s helping other people get through difficult times and difficult breakups. I think that that’s really the best part about this whole thing: being able to help another person.” Frankie Grande said that the star is “so, so unbelievably happy” and “so pleased” with fans’ reaction to the track. Yesterday (November 6) saw Ariana Grande unveil the cut-and-paste style lyric video for ‘Thank U, Next‘.
  16. Leather catsuit at the ready... Jack Whitehall has aired his excitement over the upcoming Spice Girls stadium tour, while suggesting that the group enlist him as “a replacement Posh”. The iconic ’90s girl band announced their reunion earlier this week (November 5), taking to Twitter to confirm huge shows for Summer 2019. However, Victoria Beckham – aka Posh Spice – won’t be joining her former bandmates on stage. The fashion designer took to Instagram to “wish them so much love and fun” as they head out on the road. Now, comedian Jack Whitehall has tweeted about the long-awaited reformation. “Spice Girls Reunion. Yes please,” he posted. “Apparently they are looking for a replacement ‘Posh’? You know where to find me.” Spice Girls’ official account then retweeted the offer, along with the comment: “Is your dad available?” “Yes and he looks great in leather,” Whitehall replied, referring to the leather catsuit worn by Posh in the ‘Say You’ll Be There’ video. The comedian stars in Netflix‘s Travels with My Father alongside his former theatrical agent dad, Michael. The pair previously appeared together on the BBC talk show Backchat. Elsewhere, Adele also shared her enthusiasm for the Girl Power gang’s return. Posting a photo of herself as a child in front of a Spice Girls-plastered wall, the ‘Hello’ singer said: “I AM READY”. 17. He made the claims at a launch of his new imprint 'Merky Books' yesterday evening Grime MC Stormzy has claimed that the scholarship scheme that he launched to help young black British students attend Cambridge was originally rejected by Oxford University. Now, Oxford University have responded to the claims with an official statement. Stormzy made the claims yesterday evening (November 7) at the Barbican Centre whilst speaking at the launch of his new publishing imprint, #MerkyBooks. Earlier this year, Stormzy announced the launch of the imprint, in partnership with Penguin Random House saying “We will be using this as a platform for young writers to become published authors.” Appearing alongside poet Benjamin Zephaniah, author Marjorie Blackman and rapper Akala at the launch event, Stormzy’s claims were tweeted about by journalist Dan Hancox. “Tonight at the Barbican Stormzy revealed that the much-discussed scholarship he’s finding at Cambridge Uni was first proposed to Oxford University, and they told him to get lost?! Incredible.” A spokesperson for Oxford University said: “Oxford University is committed to widening access and participation for all students from under-represented backgrounds. We admire Stormzy’s commitment to inspire and support black students to succeed in higher education. “We have not received or turned down any offer or proposal to fund undergraduate scholarships at Oxford. We have contacted to Stormzy’s representatives today to clarify we would welcome the opportunity to work together on inspiring students from African-Caribbean heritage to study at Oxford.” The Stormzy Scholarship came after Cambridge faced extensive criticism for the lack of pupils from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds. In 2017, only 58 black students were accepted onto undergraduate courses, while in June the university asked schools to help increase the amount of ethnic students. In June, the university asked for help from schools and parents to increase the number of black British students it enrols. It came after the Financial Times found that some Cambridge colleges didn’t take in any black students from 2012 to 2016. The university says that it admitted 58 black students on to undergraduate courses in 2017. Last year, Stormzy also made headlines by donating £9,000 to a crowdfunding campaign for a fan to attend Harvard. In order to apply for this year’s Stormzy Scholarship, all applicants must be of black ethnicity and received an offer to study at Cambridge. The application deadline is 30 August. The students receiving the scholarship will be selected from a list by a panel of Cambridge University staff. Last week, Stormzy said he blamed his teacher for not getting into Cambridge. after a prank at school. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Stormzy said: “I wouldn’t say I decided not to [go to Cambridge]. Life, and the teacher who kicked me out of college, also probably decided as well. “That was always the path that I was supposed to go on
I got kicked out [of school], not for anything crazy. It’s going to sound way crazier than it was: I put loads of chairs on another student. It sounds mad but we were messing around, it was horse play and I just put loads of chairs on the student so he was trapped. ”Enough to entrap the whole human body. It was a spontaneous attack actually. It was just some banter, as you do
It sounds crazy, but it was just jokes. It was like the hundredth strike, you don’t get kicked out for putting chairs on someone. I was just a little shit, I’ll admit it now.” Stormzy also recently published his autobiography yesterday Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far, in which he documented the racism he’s had to deal with in his life and career.
  18. Of course Morrissey wore his own T-shirt as he did so. Morrissey has appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden to perform his cover of The Pretenders’ ‘Back On The Chain Gang’. Morrissey wore one of his own tour T-shirts for the performance, while his backing band wore matching T-shirts bearing the slogan “Living bodies that actually move”. It’s a T-shirt Morrissey’s band has occasionally worn in concert before. The former Smiths singer had announced last month that a studio cover of The Pretenders’ No 17 hit ‘Back On The Chain Gang’ would be included on an expanded reissue of last year’s album ‘Low In High School’. A video for the song features Morrissey playing guitar for the first time – Morrissey had previously stated he preferred not to play guitar, as it gave him better freedom of movement on stage in concert. Morrissey first covered the song in October 2017 for 6 Music. ‘Back On The Chain Gang’ is one of The Pretenders’ most famed songs, having reached No 5 in the Billboard Hot 100, but has rarely been covered before Morrissey’s version – Brazilian singer Danni Carlos’ version on her 2004 album ‘Rock&Road Again’ is the only other known in-studio take on the classic. The expanded edition of ‘Low In High School’, released on December 7, will feature three new songs in addition to ‘Back On The Chain Gang’ and five live recordings. The new songs are ‘Lover-To-Be’, ‘Never Again Will I Be A Twin’ and ‘This Song Doesn’t End When It’s Over’. The live songs are ‘You’ll Be Gone’, ‘Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?’, ‘I Didn’t Know What To Do’, ‘Judy Is A Punk’ and a version of ‘Rose Garden’ recorded at famed Nashville venue The Grand Ol’ Opry. Morrissey’s performance for James Corden is a rare TV appearance by the singer, who most recently appeared in the UK on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man on Channel 4 in September.
  19. The reclusive producer has shared his thoughts on romance in the digital age in a new interview Aphex Twin has revealed he would be “too scared” to try online dating. The reclusive producer, whose real name is Richard D. James, has opened up in a new interview about his life and music, including his views on romance in the digital age. Speaking to Crack, James discussed sampling his family’s voices in his music and the importance of formant patterns in people’s voices. “I think [it’s a factor] when you’re attracted to someone as well,” he said. “Everyone knows that you need to know if you fancy someone physically, that’s the obvious thing. The less obvious thing is if you like someone’s voice. “Maybe smell would come second for a lot of people but I think the voice is really important as well. And this is based on no evidence at all but it’s my theory that if you don’t like someone’s voice you’re probably not a good genetic match for each other. Girls that I’ve liked, I’ve analysed their voices the way you do
well the way I do things
and I’ve seen some characteristics that are similar with [their] voices.” As the conversation moved onto online dating, the producer explained he had never tried it but would be “too embarrassed to meet people” if he did. “I’d be too scared, I think,” he said. “But then that’s quite nice as well, isn’t it? To overcome your fears. I expect you’d get a good sense of satisfaction even after it goes wrong. Like, ‘Oh well, I did that.’ He continued: “I suppose with things like that you just have to not think about it, just do it. Which is the situation with so much of life. We’re thinking too much about stuff rather than just being. That can lead to a lot of problems. You just need to just do stuff. Like if you saw a girl or a boy that you fancied, if you thought about it too long you wouldn’t do anything. Eventually, the brain is just gonna talk you out of it.” James released his latest EP ‘Collapse’ in September. A video for its track ‘T69 Collapse’ was pulled from a scheduled TV premiere at the last minute after it failed the Harding Test, which helps decide whether videos may cause a reaction in people suffering from photosensitive epilepsy.
  20. New vinyl box-set rounds up some 80s classics Depeche Mode have announced the release of a new vinyl 12″ singles box-set, which compiles the singles released from two of their classic 1980s albums. ‘Construction Time Again: The 12″ Singles’ and ‘Some Great Reward: The 12″ Singles’ is based on those albums of the same name. ‘Construction Time Again’ was released in 1983, with ‘Some Great Reward’ following the year after. Each box features six 12″ singles, including bonus live tracks. Singles from the era such as ‘Everything Counts’ and ‘People Are People’ remain staples in the band’s live set. The live tracks for ‘Construction Time Again’ were recorded at Hammersmith Odeon (now the Apollo), with those on ‘Some Great Reward’ live from Liverpool Empire. The box also includes three remixes by acclaimed dub producer Adrian Sherwood. Depeche Mode are cataloguing their singles with a series of similar box-sets. The first volume was released in August, which featured the 12″ singles from their albums ‘Speak & Spell’ and ‘A Broken Frame’. 21. The first single from it will reportedly arrive tomorrow (November 9) XXXTentacion‘s first posthumous album, ‘Skins’, will be released next month, according to reports. The controversial rapper was working on the record before his death. He was shot and killed in June while leaving a motorcycle dealership in Broward County, Florida. Fans have shared screengrabs of an album listing on iTunes, which claims the record will be released on December 7. The listing is not visible on the UK iTunes store and a link shared online by fans to the album on the New Zealand iTunes store no longer works. ‘Skins’ will feature 10 songs and be 17 minutes long. It has been suggested the album length means the tracks will be released as XXXTentacion left them, however, in an audio clip posted to his Instagram story this week, the rapper can be heard saying: “I’m gonna make this album super short. It’s literally gonna be a minute.” ‘Bad’, the first single from the album, will reportedly arrive tomorrow (November 9). A countdown on the rapper’s official website also suggests an exclusive merch range could drop at the same time. A video on his Instagram story also showed patches with the word “Bad”, sizing, and laundry symbols on them. “Soon
handling with care but I promise you it’s worth it,” text on the video read. “Oh by the way I designed all those myself.” XXXTentacion appeared on Skrillex‘s new single ‘Arms Around You’, alongside Lil Pump, Swae Lee, and more last month. Since his death, his voice has also featured on tracks with Lil Peep and Lil Wayne, while Kanye West has said he will also appear on his upcoming record, ‘Yandhi’. A secret recording was obtained last month on which the rapper could be heard confessing to a series of violent crimes, including domestic abuse.
  22. Trump's team had previously said they would stop playing Young's songs Neil Young has spoken out against Donald Trump once again after the US President has continued to air his music at rallies without permission. In 2015, Trump played Young’s ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ at rallies during his presidential campaign. The musician asked him to cease doing so and his team agreed, saying: “We will respect [Young’s] wish and not use it because it’s the right thing to do.” However, the song has been a part of Trump’s midterm events, causing Young to speak out against him again. “DT does not have my permission to use the song ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ at his appearances,” he wrote in a statement on his website. “Legally, he has the right to, however, it goes against my wishes. I made this perfectly clear after he played it in a media moment to announce his candidacy. I asked him then, in a widely shared public letter to cease and desist.” Young continued: “However, he chose not to listen to my request, just as he chooses not to listen to the many American voices who ask him to stop his constant lies, to stop his petty, nasty name-calling and bullying, to stop pushing his dangerous, vilifying and hateful rhetoric. This man does not represent the character of the people in the USA that I have come to know and love.” He concluded by acknowledging the fact that, as a Canadian, he can’t vote in the US, but encouraged his fans to “take this great opportunity to make your voice heard.” Young is not the only musician to demand Trump stop using their music at his campaign events lately. Rihanna sent the President a cease and desist letter when he used ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ at a rally, while Axl Rose, Pharrell Williams, Steven Tyler, and Prince’s estate have also said he does not have their permission to play their songs. Rose suggested Trump’s team were using “loopholes” to play artists’ music at rallies without their consent.

He spoke out after a report found that half of LGBT people have experienced depression Will Young has called for better education in schools to improve mental health for LGBT students, saying “nothing has been done”. The singer was a guest on Radio 4’s Today programme to discuss the publication of a report that found half of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender have experienced depression. “We have to look at the causes of mental health amongst LGBT people,” he said. “It is because it’s still not tackled in schools. “Nothing has been done about the misappropriation of the word gay, that used to mean happy. Now it means
that’s wrong, that’s disgusting.” Following the broadcast, Young tweeted that appearing on the show was a “dream come true”, but that the subject was “a bit dispiriting”. Young also revealed that he has met with two education ministers over the last five years and described a “climate of shame” that LGBT people face. “Of course that’s going to lead to low self-worth, low self-esteem, self disgust,” he said. “It’s all about language. No one is looking at the misappropriation of the word gay in the classroom.” Earlier this year, Young revealed that he was made to re-record his early hit ‘Leave Right Now’ because he ‘sounded gay’. The 2003 single was Young’s first from his second album ‘Friday’s Child’, and went to number one in the UK following its release. LGBT equality charity Stonewall found that of 5,000 people surveyed, 52% had experienced depression in the last year and 61% said they had suffered anxiety. The charity also highlighted that mental health problems were particularly concerning among transgender people, with 12% saying they had attempted to take their own life in the last year, compared with 2% of LGB people who are not trans. “If you’re gay you might not have safety at home,” continued Young. “If you don’t have safety at school you have nowhere, so you become isolated, the shame gets worse. “It’s not taken seriously and the reason it’s not taken seriously is people still see it as a choice and it’s linked to sex and we don’t talk about sex in schools. It’s not linked to love.”
  24. The punks take on alt-pop icons The B-52s Shame have covered The B-52s’ alt-pop 1978 classic anthem ‘Rock Lobster’. The South London punks made their cover for Spotify Sessions – but mocked the streaming service when they publicised their cover. Writing on Twitter, the band said: “A while back, we recorded ‘Rock Lobster’ and ‘One Rizla’ for Spotify Sessions
Get streaming, kids, for each 10,000 plays we can afford a Kit-Kat.” ‘One Rizla’ was one of Shame’s singles which previewed their debut album ‘Songs Of Praise’, which reached No 32 on its release in January. The four-piece also released a Christmas single last month, with their take on the traditional festive song ‘Feliz Navidad’ available via Shame’s Bandcamp page. Shame are currently on tour in Japan, before returning for their biggest UK headline tour to date. Dates are below. You can buy tickets for Shame’s tour here. Support on the tour comes from HMLTD, Fontaines DC and Sorry. ‘Rock Lobster’ was recorded by The B-52s as a single in 1978, before being substantially reworked into a longer version on the band’s self-titled debut album in 1979. The song was inspired by a local disco called 2001 in the band’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, which featured pictures of lobsters on a grill alongside images of puppies and babies. The band haven’t released any new material since 2008’s album ‘Funlandia’, but continue to occasionally tour. They’re also known for the songs ‘Love Shack’ and ‘Private Idaho’.
