  1. The Preacher season 3 premiere finally introduced fans to the character of Marie L’Angelle, otherwise known as Jesse Custer’s Gran’ma. Played by veteran actor Betty Buckley (Split), Marie is a formidable presence unlike any seen on the series up to this point. The character has previously been introduced offscreen through flashbacks but she’s never commanded the screen in quite the way Buckley does. And given Marie's incredible skills and twisted connection to Jesse’s dark backstory, it seems as though the character is set to leave her mark on the series. In the premiere, Marie announces herself in frightening fashion after learning her daughter bore a child and hid his existence from her. In a single scene the show demonstrates how swift and brutal Marie’s vengeance is for those who cross her — family or not — so when Jesse shows up asking for his gran’s help in bringing the recently deceased Tulip (Ruth Negga) back to life, it's a lot like Jesse’s making a bargain with the devil. It’s important for the audience to feel that way, says Preacher showrunner Sam Catlin, who has been waiting for the moment the show could introduce Marie, as well as T.C. (Colin Cunningham) and Jody (Jeremy Childs). But make no mistake, as dangerous as those two are, this world the series is about to enter is run entirely by Gran’ma. “Gran'ma has to feel like she's a worthy adversary to Jesse. She's the matriarch of this powerful southern corrupt family and it's needs to feel like this is Gran'ma's world that she runs and Betty just has that sort of natural presence and authority to her.” Speaking with us ahead of the season 3 premiere, Buckely offered up some insight into what’s motivating Marie, saying there’s more to the mysterious matriarch than meets the eye, and that she comes from place that’s just as dark, if not darker than her grandson. “Well she really loves Jesse, but with her background, she has a worldview that is about honor and respect. She calls herself a healer and I think she believes she really is. She has all these skills, including the capacity to bring people back to life, for a price. She's like a voodoo cajun sorceress. She has these talents and skills that are honed and she’ll use them for a price, but if somebody cheats her or doesn't pay what they owe, then her revenge is merciless. [That] is learned behavior from her own childhood. In her youth she was abused. Sam [Catlin] says she is probably hundreds of years old. We don't know exactly how old she is, but she doesn't want to grow old and she doesn't want to die. And since Jesse left her at 15, she’s needed him back. So when Jesse comes back to Angelville to request her help to save Tulip's life, she requires this blood oath from him again, so he's back in her clutches. It all makes sense to her. She's pretty evil without a doubt.” Season 3 gets off to a fast start with ‘Angelville,’ which makes quick work of the introductions for Marie, T.C, and Jody. Those introductions aside, the show finds Jesse in a tight spot with the last people on Earth he wants to be indebted to. After facing rogue angels and the Saint of Killers, it looks like Preacher may have found a truly worthy adversary in an unlikely place. Preacher continues next Sunday with ‘Sonsabitches’ @10pm on AMC.
  2. AMC’s Preacher has developed a reputation for some aggressively fun fight sequences, and as series showrunner Sam Catlin and actors Dominic Cooper and Joseph Gilgun attest, much of the credit is owed to stunt coordinator John Koyama and his team. The series has gone out of its way to create memorable fight sequences with complex choreography since the first season, where Cassidy famously fought off two angels in a church, and later, a motel room became the sight of a supernatural slugfest that left one hell of a surprise for the cleaning staff. Since then, every season has attempted to outdo the previous one, season 2 featured an unforgettable fight set to Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl,' for instance. And as the season 3 premiere makes clear, with an extended brawl between Jesse and series newcomer Jody (Jeremy Childs) that also makes use of a big red pickup truck, the trend will continue. According to Catlin, that fight is just the tip of the iceberg this time around, as “there’s going to be more fights this year than in both seasons put together times four. There's so many stunts and so many big fights, it's really just the beginning.” While speaking with the cast and crew of Preacher ahead of season 3, one thing became clear: the common denominator of all the extraordinary brawls and action sequences in the series really comes down to Koyama, an actor and stunt performer/coordinator known for his work on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Justice League, Future Man, Furious 7, and more. In discussing the process of bringing a fight from the page to the screen, Catlin offered up a simplified version of how it all comes together. “John Koyama's our stunt coordinator; he's basically our in-house director for all of these sequences. In the script we basically say, 'Koyama, this is the story. Jody is the one guy Jesse hasn't been able to beat over the years; he’s the one who taught him how to fight. It's bloody hand-to-hand and Jesse's overmatched, and it takes place outside by this truck and maybe has a few story beats in it.’ And he builds a fight. The fights are a big part of the show, all kudos to John Koyama and his team and all the stunt doubles.” Cooper and Gilgun are also quick to praise Koyama and his team for the work and choreography that they do, as well as the speed and efficiency with which they work, making it easy for the actors to learn the necessary moves very quickly. Cooper said: “It’s a huge part of the story and a huge part of the show. The one thing that we have is one of the most wonderful stunt coordinators, John Koyama. For an actor, he makes it so you can learn it very quickly, which means you can change it up very quickly if the director decides it's not quite working for whatever reason. But we spend a lot of time on them. It's all really down to an incredible stunt team who all work so hard. They're great, and we get so much support from them.” Gilgun seconds the speed with which Koyama and his team work, and adds how his stunt double, Solomon Brende, is always there to sacrifice his body when the moment calls for it. “I'll tell you what makes a good fight sequence. I think from my perspective you're only as good as your stuntmen around you. These men, John Koyama and his team, they honestly are unbelievable. They're an incredible team with a remarkable reputation. Weeks of preparation will have gone into a fight sequence and by the time you've arrived, the way [John] breaks it down for you, you're initial thought is ‘How the f**k am I gonna learn all that? How am I possibly going to make this look as good as [they did]?’ It can be very intimidating, but the way he breaks it down... he's just so clever, that within moments you know this very complex and at times very dangerous fight choreography. You absolutely know when you're making something memorable. You know the reactions of the audience, you can feel it as you're doing it. I'm incredibly lucky to have such a talented stunt double; he takes incredibly hard hits for me. Those moments you see on screen -- can you remember back to season 1 where Jesse makes Cassidy fly? He's showing all these new powers he has and he makes him fly into a f**king wall. Sol literally ran from the back of the room, jumped on a tiny trampoline and flung himself into a f**king wall. That's got to have hurt, man. I refuse to believe it didn't f**k Sol up. It's a job that I can't imagine doing. There's also those moments where they have very little time to prepare for a fight and they still achieve the results. I just think it's all about your team. If you've got a good team it'll be a good fight. John Koyama and that group, we're very, very lucky to have them.” Preacher season 3 continues next Sunday with ‘Sonsabitches’ @10pm on AMC
  3. Grant Gustin plays the title character on The CW's The Flash, but if he wasn't already tied down to the iconic DC Comics character, the actor says he would like to play Spider-Man. Gustin has been playing Barry Allen/The Flash since 2013, when he first appeared as the character in a season 2 episode of The CW series Arrow. Gustin's Barry Allen later got his own show in 2014, when The Flash premiered on the same network. As Barry, Gustin has portrayed the superhero on several different shows, including Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and providing his voice in the animated series and TV movie, Vixen. But what if he wasn't Flash? According to Cinema Blend, Gustin recently attended the ACE Comic Con Seattle panel and was asked, if he wasn't playing Barry Allen/ The Flash in the DC universe, which Marvel Comics character he would like to play? Gustin answered, "Spider-Man." He continued his explanation saying, "I love Tom Holland, but Spider-Man. I love Andrew Garfield too, while we’re talking about it.” The reveal didn't come as much of a surprise for fans of the actor. When Marvel Studios was in search of the actor who would play MCU's Spider-Man, many fans wondered what Gustin would be like in the role, even though he was already playing The Flash. The next season of The Flash could make the series very interesting. Now that Barry's future daughter Nora Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) has been made a series regular, along with other notable characters, things may become complicated. At the same panel Gustin talked about what's to come in the next installment of The Flash. "I don’t want to spoil too much of it, obviously," Gustin said of the upcoming season. "I don’t know too much either. What I could presume is that we’re going to see… I mean, [Nora is] trapped in our time. I think, we’re probably going to see Barry trying to help her figure out a way to get back to her time. And see Barry and Iris interacting with an adult version of their child. I mean, it’s going to be really cool. We’re gonna see a new speedster, so. Get ready." While it would have been fun to see Gustin as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the young actor has a very devoted fan base who enjoy watching him tackle bad guys as The Flash every week. Gustin has made the character very much his own over the course of the show. To have seen the actor dabbling in both the Marvel and DC universes may have been a lot more to handle for the actor and fans, with the pressure to differentiate two, distinct characters. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time that actors have hopped franchises. And then there's Josh Brolin, who played two major Marvel characters in back-to-back movies. But Tom Holland seems to have filled the role with a nuance all his own. And fans can look forward to seeing Gustin continue as Barry Allen when season five of The Flash returns in October. The Flash season 5 premieres on Tuesday, October 9, on The CW.
  4. With Ant-Man and The Wasp hitting theaters in just over a week, director Peyton Reed revealed that he hopes it won't be the last superhero team he brings to the big screen. Since Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the way back in 2008, the term "superhero fatigue" has been bandied about more and more with each passing year. It's not a sense Reed seems to share, however, still holding onto the dream of adapting even more, specifically the Fantastic Four. In a direct sequel to the 2015 hit (also directed by Reed) - as well as Captain America: Civil War - Ant-Man and The Wasp will find Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) struggling with the consequences of his choices, as both a superhero and a father. Finally teaming up with Hope Van Dyne, the duo find themselves confronting revelations from the past and a powerful new enemy in the form of Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). In an interview with Cinema Blend, as part of the Ant-Man and The Wasp domestic press day, Peyton Reed expressed interest in returning to The Fantastic Four, a project he was first helping to develop nearly twenty years ago. Eventually the adaptation landed in the hands of Tim Story, who went on to helm both 2005's Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but it was a dream Peyton Reed clearly never let go of: "Well, I have been known to mention Fantastic Four in conversations that may or may not have happened in the Marvel hallways. It's all a giant question mark at this point, because no one knows if this merger is going to happen. It was on, it was off, it was on... who knows. I guess I can dream, right? I can have the dream. We'll see. Time will tell!" Though those earlier iterations of the superhero team saw its share of success and appealed to some fans, neither of them quite reached the heights of acclaim and popularity that the MCU films have since its inception a decade ago. The critically and commercially panned 2015 version from Josh Trank notwithstanding, now would be the perfect time for a reboot. And, in the hands of Marvel Studios, fans could finally get the version they have been long since clamoring for - much in the same way Spider-Man: Homecoming gave many their long-overdue and definitive rendition of the wall-crawler. With the highly anticipated merger of Disney and Fox looking ever more likely, Peyton Reed could very well get his wish. And it's easy to picture how the results could prove pleasing to fans. Reed clearly has knowledge of the material, and already has a particular style in mind for the characters. His previous proposal would have seen Mister Fantastic and family set firmly in their 1960s heyday, serving as almost an allegory to the Cold War space race. Themes of family would be equally familiar ground, with it serving prominently in Ant-Man, most notably in the often complex relationships between fathers and children. Themes which Ant-Man and The Wasp looks set to continue via Scott Lang and Cassie, Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and, if this theory proves true, Ava/Ghost and Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne). All of which looks set to grow only more complex with the return of Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and which could lend itself beautifully to bringing to life the humor and complex dynamics of Marvel's first family. 5. The veil of mystery surrounding the future of the MCU will be lifted after Avengers 4. Marvel Studios has been telling a singular story since 2008 and have no plans of slowing down. They're releasing their twentieth movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp, in two weeks, but already have plans for another handful. Even with projects like Spider-Man: Far From Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially confirmed, there are even more that are just reportedly in development. Due to the high levels of secrecy Marvel Studios has employed to help keep Avengers 4 as mysterious as possible, they aren't ready to confirm plans for the future. Its a path they've chosen to avoid possibly spoiling the fallout of Avengers 4, which may not be going so well either way, as the two aforementioned sequels star characters who are currently "dead." But, all will be revealed after Avengers 4. In an interview with Comic Book, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was asked about how they're going to make the future of the MCU known. They're skipping San Diego Comic-Con this year (possibly to avoid the pressure of announcing Phase 4), but he says they're currently figuring out how to make all these announcements - and he can't wait to talk about them. Marketing's coming up with all sorts of things. How to debut [those plans], how to debut Captain Marvel, lots of opportunities for fun, exciting stuff coming up. And after Avengers 4, being less cagey about it. Since over half of the MCU's heroes vanished thanks to Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War, announcing more movies would add more chances for fates to be revealed. Its understandable why Feige's made this choice, but it'll also be difficult to keep up, as they aren't going to halt production altogether. Far From Home is likely to have a major MCU character appear, just as Iron Man did in Homecoming, and whoever it is will secure their Avengers 4 fate too. The same goes for Guardians Vol. 3, where Chris Pratt and others believe they're returning despite their currently unclear fates. Whenever and however Marvel Studios decides to make the future known, we'll have to wait and see if these plans end up reported on beforehand. They're said to have a director shortlist for Black Widow, even though they haven't even confirmed they're making the movie. The studio also reportedly hired a team of writers to pen a script for The Eternals, which signifies it being a priority for them. With other sequels like Black Panther 2 and Doctor Strange 2 also rumored to various levels, it may only be a matter of time before all is revealed one way or the other - even if that doesn't come until after Avengers 4 hits theaters. 6. The first trailer for Captain Marvel doesn't appear to be coming anytime soon. While most of the attention regarding the MCU has gone to how Avengers 4 will wrap up the last ten years, one of the keys is likely to be Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. The Oscar-winner will be the star of the first female led film from Marvel Studios, and there's been plenty of interest already in getting the first look. Photos that have leaked from the set have offered plenty of images of Larson suited up, but that's not enough for everyone. With the film set to hit theaters next March, there's been plenty of theories over when Marvel would debut the first Captain Marvel trailer. Attaching it to Ant-Man and The Wasp's theatrical run was a popular theory, especially since Marvel Studios isn't going to San Diego Comic-Con. But, it appears we'll have to wait much longer. Comic Book spoke to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as part of the Ant-Man and The Wasp press junket and asked him about when the trailer could arrive. Despite the heavy interest and Marvel's tendency to attach trailers for their upcoming movies with their newest release, Feige says the trailer is "still a few months" out. There doesn't appear to be a clear reason why Marvel Studios won't release the trailer soon other than Feige saying the studio is "still figuring out" when to release it. As the summer season winds down, Captain Marvel will continue to lose potentially valuable face-time with general audiences. However, since production is not yet wrapped, they could just be waiting until they aren't worried about the actual production to start teasing fans more. But, this does raise a legitimate question on when the trailer will actually be released. Captain Marvel is the first March release for Marvel Studios so there isn't a perfect comparison to be made. Black Panther hit theaters in February of this year and its first trailer arrived in June during the NBA Finals. The studio did release Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April of 2014, and the first teaser for that sequel didn't arrive until October of 2013. This could be the more similar path Captain Marvel takes, allowing for the first trailer to arrive in September or October of this year. Regardless of the exact timetable for the trailer's release, it will come before the end of the year without a doubt. Considering the positive buzz the film has received already, hopefully the Captain Marvel trailer will be worth the wait. If You Like The New Please Rep and Like Thank you...
  7. The Smithsonian Institution has chosen to recognize the cultural importance of Marvel's Black Panther, purchasing a number of MCU items to be displayed by the National Museum of African American History and Culture later this year. Marvel Studios was confident that Black Panther would be a success; the film was a bold step forward in terms of representation and diversity, launching a new MCU franchise set in the fictional African country of Wakanda. But not even Marvel Studios could have quite expected the movie to perform as well as it did, grossing $1.3 billion at the global box office. Incredibly, it's the highest-grossing superhero movie to date in the domestic market, bringing in just shy of $700 million. Even Avengers: Infinity War isn't going to beat it. In an official press release, the Smithsonian Institution has revealed that they've purchased several items from Black Panther, likely to be displayed at the Smithsonian African American Film Festival in October. The items include: A costume actually worn by Chadwick Boseman during the production A shooting script signed by Ryan Coogler, Kevin Feige, Nate Moore, and Joe Robert Cole Two pages of spec script 24 high-resolution production photographs It seems these items were obtained back in February, when the Smithsonian Institution hosted a screening of Black Panther. They recently obtained the directors' chairs from Avengers: Infinity War and a Captain America shield from Captain America: Civil War, as well, raising the exciting possibility that the MCU will soon have a permanent presence at the Smithsonian. According to the Smithsonian Institution, Black Panther is worth special recognition because he was the first superhero of African descent to appear in mainstream American comics. "Black Panther illustrates the progression of blacks in film," the press release notes, "an industry that in the past has overlooked blacks, or regulated them to flat, one-dimensional and marginalized figures. The film, like the museum, provides a fuller story of black culture and identity." They go on to point out that Black Panther's origin can be found in comics from the '60s, during the height of the civil rights movement. This historical context just adds another layer of depth to Black Panther's cultural significance. The first Smithsonian African American Film Festival will run from October 24-27, and it's intended to become an annual event. The festival is designed to discover and celebrate works of cultural significance, providing a platform for both well-known and lesser-known African American image makers. The Black Panther items are a significant coup for the Smithsonian, but they'll be sat alongside works that may not otherwise receive much theatrical attention. Another highlight will be the screening of Malcolm X Struggle for Freedom, a movie restored by the Smithsonian Institution that explores Malcolm X's life and philosophy. 8. STX has announced new release dates for The Happytime Murders and Mile 22. A relatively new player in Hollywood, STX has been trying to make a name for itself, bringing in big names to fill leading roles and to helm potential blockbuster hits. With this latest shuffle in their August release dates, STX seems to be repositioning these films for a more optimistic run at the box office. Mile 22, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Lauren Cohan, Ronda Rousey and John Malkovich, is a race against time thriller following a top-secret mission to keep an asset out of enemy hands, carried out by the CIA's best, yet misunderstood, contingent. This will be the fourth time director Peter Berg and Wahlberg have worked together, previously uniting for Lone Survivor, Patriots Day and Deepwater Horizon. Where Mile 22 looks to find favor in audiences through secret missions, The Happytime Murders looks to vulgar humor and warped nostalgia for success. The Happytime Murders follows the turbulent relationship between two detectives, one a puppet and one a human, as they work together to solve the murder of puppets from a popular 1980s series The Happytime Gang. Resembling puppets from the Jim Henson company, The Happytime Murders is set to also star Joel McHale, Elizabeth Banks and Maya Rudolph. As was reported by Collider, Mile 22 will be moving from a previously publicized release date of August 3rd to August 17th, while The Happytime Murders has been pushed back from August 17th to August 24th. With the release date pushed back, Mile 22 looks to try and beat out its newest competition Alpha, a man and wolf relationship film, and Three Seconds, an upcoming British crime drama from director Andrea Di Stefano. The Happytime Murders' new release date will have them battling new competition at the box office as well. The raunchy puppeteering comedy is now set to face off against robot dog movie A.X.L., and the highly anticipated horror film Slender Man. While Slender Man appears to be the toughest competition for the weekend, The Happytime Murders seems poised for success, as the nature of the film is sure to attract those adults who grew up with Jim Henson puppets, in addition to the controversy surrounding the film further heightening interest. Following the release of the film's first trailer, STX found itself defending the marketing for The Happytime Murders against the company behind Sesame Street. In the film's trailer and movie poster, there is a reference to the popular children's series, "No Sesame. All Street". The clever tagline, as argued by the company behind Sesame Street, "deliberately confuses consumers into mistakenly believing that Sesame is associated with, has allowed, or has even endorsed or produced the movie and tarnishes Sesame's brand." A judge has since ruled that Sesame Workshop had been unable to adequately prove the tagline would lead to confusion amongst movie goers and the lawsuit has since been closed. Thankfully, no such controversies have arisen around Mile 22. STX has seen a modest success at the box office this year with both comedy and drama, securing $80.5 million for its crime heist drama Den of Thieves - which is set to get a sequel - and $82.7 million for Amy Schumer's latest comedy I Feel Pretty. With these updated release dates for The Happytime Murders and Mile 22, STX seems hopeful for even more success in 2018. If You Like The New Please Rep and Like Thank you...
  9. Spider-Man: Far From Home is indeed the title of Spider-Man: Homecoming's sequel, and it has multiple meanings. Following his scene stealing debut in Captain America: Civil War, fans were ecstatic to see Tom Holland's Spider-Man again. His solo movie was a huge hit, so Sony and Marvel wasted no time in announcing a sequel was on the horizon. It is going to pick up right after Avengers 4, which is even more fascinating considering how Infinity War ended things for Spidey. Somehow, there is still a future for Holland's Spider-Man and we will see him head overseas in his sequel. The globe-trotting adventure has continued to keep fans guessing on what the title could ultimately be, which Holland appeared to "leak" yesterday. At the time, it wasn't clear if it was a joke or legit, but it is very much true. Cinema Blend spoke to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as part of the Ant-Man and The Wasp press junket and asked him about the sequel's reported title, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Feige confirmed that this is the title for Homecoming's follow up, but went a step further to tease the multiple meanings the title actually has. [It's] similar [to Spider-Man: Homecoming]. I won't say what the meanings are, but we enjoy that title because, like Homecoming, it is full of alternate meaning. And we liked continuing the 'Home' thing, with the little Spidey symbol in the 'Home.' With the sequel set to start production later this summer, it's rather nice of Marvel to reveal the title now - even if it's just so everyone doesn't have to keep referring to it as Untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel. It also goes to show that Marvel and Sony are leaning in to Holland's spoiler tendencies even more, which is great. As some may remember, Holland previously "leaked" the first Infinity War poster. As for the multiple meanings of Far From Home, the most obvious meaning is how it relates to Spidey going on an international adventure. While the MCU's Spidey has already grabbed his passport to go to Germany in Civil War, this will be a very different adventure it appears. Far From Home helps put the focus on that aspect of the sequel, but it could also tease the unfamiliar position Peter finds himself in once Avengers 4 concludes. Instead of being a young hero, he could be viewed as one of the biggest heroes on the planet and be asked to do even more. If You Like The New Please Rep and Like Thank you...
  10. The latest rumors suggest Ewan McGregor will play Obi-Wan Kenobi again in Star Wars: Episode IX. For several years, speculation has held the Jedi Master would be the subject of his own spinoff movie, but recently doubt has been cast over that project. Lucasfilm is reportedly putting planned spinoffs like Obi-Wan on hold for the time being while they reevaluate their strategy following Solo: A Star Wars Story's disappointment at the box office. Additionally, Obi-Wan allegedly lost attached director Stephen Daldry a while ago, with no reported replacement found. As fans wait to see if McGregor's Obi-Wan will be the star of an upcoming movie, it's easy for viewers to forget the actor has already been involved in one of Disney's Star Wars movies. He made a voiceover cameo in The Force Awakens, speaking to Rey during her Force vision in Maz Kanata's castle. If the newest information is to be believed, McGregor could also help close out the Skywalker saga next December. According to The Sun, McGregor will "secretly" shoot scenes with Star Wars 9 director J.J. Abrams. There's no word on how large the actor's role would be, but it presumably would be a small part as a Force ghost, similar to Kenobi's appearances in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Since this is an unverified rumor, moviegoers are advised to take this all with a grain of salt. There's no denying Obi-Wan is an integral figure in the Skywalker saga, having trained both Anakin and Luke at various points in his life. However, it would be a bit strange to see him return for Episode IX. Similar to Yoda (who was previously rumored for this movie), Obi-Wan has virtually no connection to Rey, who is this trilogy's main Force-using protagonist. If Star Wars 9 is to work a Force ghost into the story, the most logical option would be Luke, who trained Rey in The Last Jedi. Abrams could stage a reunion between teacher and student, perhaps depicting the third lesson Episode VIII never got to. Mark Hamill has already talked about returning and is up for it if that's what the filmmakers want. There is an outside chance this could happen. After all, Yoda was frequently rumored for The Last Jedi and Lucasfilm made no official confirmation, saving the reveal as a premiere surprise. That being said, Yoda's inclusion in Episode VIII made sense; the broken and weary Luke needed one final lesson from the wise alien to snap him out of his state of mind and become the legend the galaxy needed. There isn't such an obvious storytelling reason for Obi-Wan or Yoda to return to the fold this time around. As Rey said, Luke died with peace and purpose, so he should be able to come to Rey in any time of need she has to offer advice. If You Like The New Please Rep and Like Thank you...

  12. Tom Holland says that he would like to see Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Holland having already defeated Vulture in the Jon Watts’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and a standalone Venom movie hitting theaters this fall, his response would seem to fit quite naturally with the way Sony’s Marvel Universe is currently unfolding. Since the news of Venom first broke and throughout much of production, it has been rumored that Sony and Marvel Studios’ deal that allowed Holland to play the young Peter Parker in the MCU would also allow him to cross over for Sony’s planned Spider-Man-related series. While Venom’s director will neither confirm nor deny the rumors that Holland is making a cameo as Spider-Man, the actor may have inadvertently added fuel to the fire with his response. At Ace Comic-Con in Seattle, Tom Holland was asked, which Spider-Man villain would he want to see in the MCU? And his answer was, “Maybe Venom?” While Holland has somewhat of a history for “accidentally” revealing key film details to the public, and may have dropped a massive spoiler at the same event in revealing that Spider-Man’s second standalone feature could be titled Spider-Man: Far From Home, it would hardly be much of a surprise if the two characters do, in fact, square off at some point in the future. As for that confrontation taking place in the upcoming Venom, none of the trailers released to this point have indicated these rumors are true. While it was reported that the actor seemed nervous before answering the fan’s question, this news would be far less sensitive than the Avengers: Infinity War spoilers he seemed to reveal prior to release. If, however, Holland was purposely setting up a surprise cameo in Venom rather than just expressing a sincere answer, the move could conceivably allow for Venom to establish itself as being part of the larger Marvel universe without greatly altering the MCU. It’s expected by many fans that Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in next May’s untitled Avengers 4, but at the very least, the web-slinger swings back into theaters in his standalone sequel next summer. As for Venom, Tom Hardy will be portraying Eddie Brock and the symbiote Venom when the film is released this October. Co-starring Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Brock’s love interest, and Riz Ahmed as Dr. Carlton Drake, head of the Life Foundation that’s interested in studying and harnessing the symbiotes, the film continues the trend of adding bankable Hollywood stars to an expanding superhero universe. While some fans would want Hardy's Venom to show up in the MCU, it seems more likely that Marvel Studios would cast their own actor in the role that fits within their continuously-growing Spider-Man story. 13. The latest rumors about the Obi-Wan spinoff movie indicate it was going to be saved for Disney's streaming service that's launching in 2019. Following the underwhelming box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the future the Star Wars spinoffs has been in a state of flux. This past week, Lucasfilm allegedly put planned Star Wars Story entries (including Obi-Wan and Boba Fett) on hold, while still moving ahead on officially announced projects, such as Rian Johnson's new standalone trilogy. Lucasfilm maintains there are several Star Wars movies still in development, but Obi-Wan has apparently encountered some problems. Even before Solo failed commercially, it reportedly lost director Stephen Daldry, who became attached last summer. As the studio attempts to figure out what their next step is, even more interesting information about Obi-Wan has come to light. In their write-up on the current situation, The Playlist says the idea was for Obi-Wan to be an exclusive film to Disney's streaming service. They also heard about Daldry's departure "long ago," indicating he didn't stick around for long - if he ever was involved at all. Since Lucasfilm never confirmed Obi-Wan, it's difficult to make sense of all the rumors. Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars television show (which reportedly starts filming this fall/winter) is being developed for Disney's streaming service, but it also makes a good deal of sense to roll out some feature-length films. In fact, the service's slate will include movies such as the Sword and the Stone remake and Noelle (which stars Anna Kendrick as Santa Claus' daughter). Considering how much pent-up demand there is for Obi-Wan, it would be a great way to lure people to Disney's streaming service by telling Star Wars fans they can see Ewan McGregor return as the Jedi Master. While the Mouse House isn't looking to kill Netflix with this venture, they obviously want to compete. Also, Obi-Wan seems like it would be better served as a mid-budget, character-driven piece, and that style of filmmaking might be a stronger fit for streaming, rather than theatrical tentpole. It will be interesting to see if Obi-Wan does eventually happen, or if Lucasfilm leaves it on the back burner for good. A case can be made that the studio pursued the wrong types of Star Wars stories when developing their spinoff initiative, and it's difficult to find the hook for Obi-Wan at first glance. Much of the character's life has already been covered extensively in canon (including numerous movies and seasons of TV), so perhaps Lucasfilm should let the character rest and focus on telling new narratives about people audiences haven't met yet. That seems to be the drive for Johnson's trilogy and David Benioff & D.B. Weiss' series, so Star Wars could find success with that method. If You Like The New Please Rep and Like Thank you...
  14. Ant-Man and The Wasp's Hannah John-Kamen says she's interested in doing a spinoff movie based on the Thunderbolts. John-Kamen plays the villainous Ghost in the fast-approaching Ant-Man sequel, a big bad that remains relatively wrapped in mystery and intrigue. Her abilities have been shown off in recent trailers and clips, and the newest Ant-Man 2 images give the best look yet at the character. In the comics, the character Ghost was often part of a popular group of anti-heroes and super-criminals called the Thunderbolts. The faction went through various incarnations starting in the '90s, with Ghost often serving as one of its main members. It's possible for Marvel Studios to make a Thunderbolts movie happen if they really want to - and studio president Kevin Feige knows now that John-Kamen would be on board if the opportunity presented itself. As she told us and other outlets during a visit to the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp, John-Kamen was well aware of the character's place in the Marvel Comics universe as a member of the Thunderbolts and an adversary of Iron Man. Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), who's still alive in the MCU, is the best-known leader of the Thunderbolts, which leaves the possibility open for forming the group on the big screen. Here's what John-Kamen had to say about that idea: "That would be fun! That would be fun. I think, you know, as well, in the original comics Ghost was with Iron Man, it was actually originally Iron Man (villain), you know, and I actually went when I was in Atlanta, went actually bought the Thunderbolts comic books. Um, I mean with any Marvel character whatever happens to them, you always go the possibility is endless. And with me it would be an honor to work with any of the heroes, and any of the antagonist, and any of the things in the Marvel Universe. I mean, yeah, that would be amazing!? Not much is known about Ghost at this point, beyond the fact that she stole some technology belonging to Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and used it to give herself her intangibility powers, which allow her to pass through solid objects like walls, and even other people. Of course, it's unclear if Ghost even survives Ant-Man and The Wasp. If she does, then John-Kamen would almost certainly be on board to return as the villain if a Thunderbolts-centered movie became a reality. With the continued existence of Zemo in the MCU, as well as other former leaders like Luke Cage, if Marvel wants to, they could assemble the MCU version of the Thunderbolts in some capacity. The Thunderbolts could be a group of villains, perhaps for the next generation of Iron Man movies, or even get their own vehicle as Marvel's answer to Suicide Squad. As of now, there's no real indication that Marvel Studios is planning anything related to the group. But there's little shortage of possibilities when it comes to those characters, and it's encouraging for those who want to see it happen that, contingent on what happens in Ant-Man and The Wasp, there's at least one performer on board with the idea.
  15. The Silver and Black film seems to have hit another snag in its production, delaying yet again until 2019. The film was announced back in 2017 and has director Gina Prince-Bythewood attached. However, script rewrites have set Silver & Black back, this time for what appears to be an indefinite hold. Silver and Black is Sony’s answer to Marvel’s shared universe formula, starring the thief Black Cat and the mercenary Silver Sable. It is the second entry in Sony’s own movie universe of Spider-Man-related characters, following Venom later this year. Sony exclusively owned the film rights to Spider-Man up until 2015 when they signed a deal with Marvel Studios to allow Spider-Man to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, several characters are shared by the two companies, but they're trying not to step on each other's toes. As of now, there are no official plans to include Spider-Man himself in either Silver and Black or Venom, even though Peter Parker actor Tom Holland was rumored for a cameo role in Venom. According to Omega Underground, production on Silver and Black won't begin until at least 2019. Earlier this year, Silver & Black was put on indefinite hold but it seems that Sony is still committed to getting it made. The script in question has already bounced around between various writers, including Prince-Bythewood herself, Lisa Joy (Westworld), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok), and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel). The report speculates that delays in the script might be attributed to leaked plot details. In the source material, Black Cat and Silver Sable have little in common other than their association with Spider-Man, each in a very different way. Black Cat/Felicia Hardy was an enemy turned ally for Spider-Man, eventually becoming a love interest. Silver Sable usually served as a pseudo-antagonist whose agenda simply did not line up the web-slinger’s. This certainly raises a few questions as to what the premise of Silver and Black would even be. It is also curious as to why Sony firmly believes there is a demand for a film centered on two supporting characters who are new to the big screen. Countless studios are attempting to mirror the success of Marvel’s shared universe model. This is not the first time that Sony has made plans for an established film universe using its Marvel characters. The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was supposed to set the stage for a Sinister Six movie. However, the lackluster reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seemingly was the demise of those plans. Still, it seems Sony has faith that it can capture the shared universe magic with Venom and Silver and Black.
  16. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom won the box office this weekend, posting a debut that was higher than Deadpool 2 earlier this year. The sequel to 2015's Jurassic World was always expected to be a notable hit, as its predecessor broke commercial records en route to its $1.6 billion worldwide haul. Additionally, there's been a bit of a lull in regards to live-action tentpoles, after Solo: A Star Wars Story struggled to make much of an impact. You could say the demand for a blockbuster was quite high. There was some question about just how high Fallen Kingdom would go heading into the weekend. Universal pitted it directly against Pixar's Incredibles 2, which itself was a record-breaking phenomenon only a week ago. Estimates pegged the latest Jurassic World for roughly $130 million during its first three days, but the actual results are a little higher than that. According to Box Office Mojo, Fallen Kingdom earned an impressive $150 million over the weekend. That figure is considerably less than the $208.8 million the first Jurassic World made at its start, but still a great turnout. Fallen Kingdom now boasts the fourth-highest opening weekend of 2018, behind only Incredibles 2, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. Speaking of Incredibles 2, the animated film held very well to post $80.9 million in its second weekend. It's now up to $350.3 million domestically. Unfortunately for Fallen Kingdom, it received less-favorable reviews than Jurassic World did a few years ago. That, combined with the short gap between installments (World came out 14 years after Jurassic Park 3), probably hurt the movie's commercial prospects a bit. That being said, Fallen Kingdom is without question a box office hit already. The film got a head start in several international markets before opening in North America, and its global total is currently a whopping $711.5 million. Since Fallen Kingdom sports a production budget of $170 million, it's already sailed past its break even point and has turned a profit for the studio. It'll be interesting to see if it can reach $1billion to, like the first World did. All of this bodes well for the future of the franchise. Universal has already dated Jurassic World 3 for a 2021 release, under the watch of director Colin Trevorrow. People are clearly interested in having summer thrill-rides with dinosaurs and some are probably curious to see where the series goes from here after Fallen Kingdom's big ending. In the Golden Age of superhero cinema, Jurassic Park is one of the few non-comic book tentpoles to be a guaranteed lock, and Universal is going to ride it for as long as it can go.
  17. Justice League star Henry Cavill recently shared behind-the-scenes footage of himself in flight - only this time set to the classic John Williams theme from previous Superman films starring Christopher Reeve. It takes a lot of work to make the world believe that a man can fly, as shown by the stunt team helping Cavill out. Meanwhile, the rousing retro score makes it all look way too easy. Although Williams' theme had long been identified with Superman, director Zack Snyder decided to go with new music by composer Hans Zimmer for 2013's Man of Steel reboot. That film intended to become the cornerstone of a new DC movie universe. Zimmer's work appeared as reference material in the follow-up Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Justice League itself included callbacks to both Zimmer and Williams’ work from composer Danny Elfman, who took Superman's old themes in a new direction. Posted to the actor’s Instagram account, the behind-the-scenes clip features Cavill in regular workout clothes (though he hopes to be getting back into Superman's suit soon), hooked up to a rig to simulate flying while a couple stuntmen swing him around. Suspended horizontally, Cavill strikes several recognizable poses with arms extended in front of him. After a few turns, he sweeps up to hover in the air. All the while Williams’ instantly recognizable brass horns rise around him. To balance things out, the clip ends with the return of Zimmer’s strings while the stuntmen work out a tricky fight scene. Take a look: Through it all, Cavill embodies the stoic champion that formed the core of his take on the character - except for one minor detail. As he himself notes, a few times in there his hands slip from clenched fists to the splayed fingers more characteristic of a certain webbed wall-crawler. Even Superman gets a little clumsy sometimes. Over the course of several films, Cavill has shown affection for playing Superman and for the fans he’s earned. Some audiences have been less than thrilled with the DCEU, but many responded well to Cavill’s work as the character. He’s under contract for one more DCEU appearance, either in a direct sequel or another property. Both the actor and fans are hopeful that an announcement regarding Man of Steel 2 will be coming soon. In the meantime, the clip offers an inspirational combination of old and new. Cavill’s dedication to getting Superman right fits in with the more optimistic and assertive tone of Williams’ score. It reminds fans of how the character has endured. For those who want their contemporary Superman to show a little more of his classic old-school heart, it’s a sign of hope. 18. Avengers: Infinity War cast found out about the film's ending while they're all crammed in a van. Marking the culmination of everything that has transpired in the MCU since 2008's Iron Man, everything that the film did sets the stage up for what would be Earth's Mightiest Heroes ultimate showdown with Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers 4. Sadly, the number of heroes banding together against the intergalactic villain has significantly decreased following Thanos' snap with the Infinity Gauntlet. It's no secret that directors Joe and Anthony Russo went far and beyond to make sure that Infinity War's final twist wasn't going to be inadvertently leaked. Between personally reaching out to fans to not spoil the film for others and not giving actors full scripts, all their efforts had been worth it as they successfully pulled off possibly one of the most shocking twists in MCU history. Now, new information with regard to the secrecy has come to light, but this time, it's about how the cast found out the shocking ending. Appearing at Ace Comic-Con in Seattle this weekend (via ComicBook), Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany talked about how the cast of Infinity War learned about the movie's devastating end. As expected, it was the Russos who told them, but not until after they all filmed their respective death scenes. And instead of sitting all of them down in a conference room, they were all crammed in a van - an intriguing visual considering how big the cast of the film was. Olsen said: "I found out from the Russos exactly what was going to happen and it wasn’t until we shot it on that day we learned what the ending was. They took us into a van – all of us – we were in a van with air conditioning because it was very hot and they told us how the movie was going to end and no one knew. And they were like ‘Now we’re shooting it, Go!’ and we were like ‘How are we supposed to interpret that?’" Olsen was actually the first Infinity War actor who openly spoke about the cast not being given complete scripts throughout the filming process. And she gave more insight on how that worked considering that actors usually take their own script copies wherever they are to memorize their lines. She also added that now that the movie has been out for almost two months, she's that they can talk about all these things out in the open. "If you wanted to read the full script, for the majority of us, you had to go in a room with no windows, leave your phone at the door, and sit and read it fully. We couldn’t take our time at home or anything like that – they wouldn’t give us a hard copy. I just got my pages and even my pages had a fake ending and multiple fake things in it." With how sudden deaths came for some of the heroes due to Thanos' deadly snap, it's entirely possible that the actors weren't really aware what was happening until after the Russos explained it to them. Tom Holland has actually revealed that, while he improvised his heartbreaking death scene, he really didn't know what was going on the whole time. If Marvel Studios had been this tight on their security regarding Avengers: Infinity War, fans can only imagine how they're doubling down on security for Avengers 4.
