  13. A new USB specification that will offer faster speeds and is intended to simplify things is still being hammered by the USB Promoter Group, the standards body that oversees all things USB. It's called "USB4" (no space), and there should be an official spec relatively soon. What about actual retail products, though? Our friends at Anandtech asked the USB Promoter Group (USB-IF) that very question at Computex. The response was that progress on the draft spec is proceeding at a fast pace, and that retail products supporting USB4 will be available by the end of next year. There's a bit to digest there, and before we get to it, let's have a look at where USB stands currently. It's become a bit of a confusing mess with the introduction of the USB 3.2 specification, which doubles the bandwidth over USB 3.1 by allowing for up to two lanes of 10Gbps operation, for 20Gbps total. However, the spec also absorbs all prior USB 3.x specifications, so it can actually refer to three different transfer rates: USB 3.2 Gen 1: 5Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2: 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: 20Gbps As we have covered before, it gets even messier when factoring in the SuperSpeed marketing terms. "SuperSpeed Plus, Enhanced SuperSpeed, and SuperSpeed+ are defined in the USB specifications, however these terms are not intended to be used in product names, messaging, packaging or any other consumer-facing content," USB-IF says. USB-IF wants manufacturers to use the following marketing terms: USB 3.2 Gen 1: SuperSpeed USB USB 3.2 Gen 2: SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: SuperSpeed 20Gbps On top of all that, this is not the first time that USB names have changed. USB 3.2 Gen 1 used to be called USB 3.1 Gen 1, and prior to that it was USB 3.0. Confused? It's hard not to be. Here's a breakdown of past and present USB specs, and the name changes that have followed, where applicable: USB 1.1 ---> still USB 1.1 (Full Speed) USB 2.0 ---> still USB 2.0 (High Speed) USB 3.0 ---> USB 3.1 Gen 1 ---> USB 3.2 Gen 1 (SuperSpeed) USB 3.1 Gen 2 ---> USB 3.2 Gen 2 (SuperSpeed 10Gbps) USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (SuperSpeed 20Gbps) One thing I haven't talked about with any of the previous USB specs is the type of connectivity, and specifically the use of Type-A connectors (the ones on most of your USB devices that you inevitably try to plug in upside down on the first attempt) and Type-C (a smaller, reversible connector). And then there is Thunderbolt support—some USB-C devices have it, some don't. Now that you're probably thoroughly confuzzled, let's circle back to USB4, which for some reason is not called USB 4 (with a space) or USB 4.0. Naming aside, USB4 will only use Type-C connectors. Furthermore, it integrates Thunderbolt 3 into the spec, so that's one less thing to have research, or guess. And as for speed, it will again double the bandwidth, from 20Gbps (10Gbps per lane) to 40Gbps (20Gbps per lane). Though USB-IF thinks it will finalize the USB4 spec this summer, with retail USB4 devices showing up next year, it will take some time—probably years—for USB4 to permeate the PC landscape in a meaningful way. There are just too many existing USB devices in the wild for USB4 to storm the castle overnight. That said, USB4 is a welcome evolution of USB, and will be worth waiting for.

  17. This method described below is one of the fastest methods to become connectable in your torrent client that you are using. This method apply especially for torrent clients like uTorrent, Azureus, Deluge. So go into Preferences -> Connection type a port number (like 16881 or any other) and click OK for uTorrent. For BitTorrent or other torrent client search for Options and type a port, after you made the settings from upper row. Now download this: My UPnP Software Launch it! ->Press NEXT ->Uncheck Skip ICF ->Press NEXT ->You should leave the address the default one for it to extract it automatically. At local port leave 16881 (this port number must be the same as the one set before in torrent client preferences). ->Check to see if TCP and ADD options are checked and press NEXT. ->Select UDP and press NEXT. ->Hit CLOSE and you're ready. Notes: -> Preferably disable FIREWALL (turn off) or add the chosen port number to the firewall exceptions both on TCP and UDP rules. -> To check to see if you're connectable (for uTorrent) enter in Options -> Speed Guide and press ,,Test,, to check if port is forwarded properly. If it displays ,,OK,, on a green background that means everything it's working as it should, if not check the steps that you made before.

  20. Samsung today announced the new CRG5 gaming monitor. The company will share more information about the product at the PC Gaming Show at E3 2019 today--who said console gamers should have all the fun?--but it decided to pull back the curtain a bit early, perhaps in hopes of avoid sharing the spotlight for too long. The CRG5 boasts a 27-inch display with a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1500R curvature. That combination of size and speed is supposed to offer "a powerful combination of unparalleled picture quality and speed for intense gameplay." The CRG5 is limited to 1080p resolution--which isn't uncommon for monitors with refresh rates this high. Many systems would probably have to run games at that resolution to push 240 frames per second anyway. Samsung apparently had the same thought because it equipped with the CRG5 with Nvidia G-Sync support as well, which should allow people with good-but-not-great systems to enjoy the high refresh rate without having to worry about any graphical issues. Just remember that G-Sync requires an Nvidia graphics card, so if you're only repping the red team you'll have to look for a similar monitor that supports AMD FreeSync instead. The rest of the CRG5's specs include a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 4ms response time and up to 300 nits brightness. Samsung included all of its digital mainstays, too, from on-screen presets for various game genres to Eye Saver Mode. Connectivity is provided by one DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0 ports, as well as a headphone jack. The company didn't mention any USB connectivity for easier peripheral swapping. This is Samsung's first 240 Hz monitor, but it probably won't be the last. Further, we expect other manufacturers to follow with their own 240 Hz gaming monitor announcements in the coming months. As 144 Hz monitors become more common--and thus more affordable--in time vendors will likely make 240 Hz monitors a bit more common as well. One day we'll all be gaming on monitors that make us forget we ever had to worry about frame rates at all. The CRG5 will debut sometime in July via Samsung.com and "select retailers nationwide" for $399. Global availability wasn't announced.
  21. During the E3 gaming conference this week, LG announced the world's first IPS displays with a 1ms response time with the LG UltraGear Nano IPS lineup. We’ve seen TN and VA panels sporting this feature, but not in IPS form until now. LG achieved this using Nano IPS technology for a fast response time, as well as accurate color reproduction and a refresh rate of 144 Hz-plus. The new displays have gamers talking because of that response time spec. That's how long it takes for a monitor to change the color of its individual pixels. Slower response times means ghosting and worse picture quality and ghosting. Plus, this speed is all packed into an IPS panel, a technology known for its superior color and viewing angles. IPS panels also tend to be pricier than their TN and VA counterparts, so interested parties will have to keep an eye on that pricetag. The LG UltraGear Nano IPS gaming monitors will be available for pre-order in the U.S. on July 1 with availability in European markets in Q3. Pricing wasn't disclosed. The new lineup includes two different monitors: a 38-inch (model 38GL950G) and a 27-inch (model 27GL850). Both IPS panels feature a 144 Hz refresh rate (up to 175 Hz overclocked) and cover 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut (135% sRGB). Users can connect to the monitors via DisplayPort and HDMI connectivity, with the 27-inch having two more HDMI ports. Other connectivity includes a USB 3.0 hub with one input and two outputs. LG designed the 38-inch monitor to increase a gamers’ sense of immersion, with a curved screen, 21:9 aspect ratio, thin bezels and the upgraded Sphere Lighting 2.0 (RGB lighting on the back of the screen for ambiance). Sporting a 3840 x 1600 resolution, the Nvidia G-Sync equipped panel hits 450 nits max brightness and carries the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification for HDR fans. The smaller 27-inch monitor is curveless, rocks a 2560 x 1440 resolution, supports HDR10, 350 nits max brightness and is G-Sync Compatible. A complete list of specifications are below. 22. A PC said to be using the yet to be released 16-core, 32-thread AMD Ryzen 9 3950X CPU appears to beat the 18-core, 36-thread Intel Core i9-9980XE in multi-core performance in a leaked Geekbench test result. The AMD CPU's 61,072 score is the highest we’ve ever seen from a consumer CPU. AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs. Intel Core i9-9980XE: Geekbench Results Perhaps the craziest part about this is that Intel’s 18-core CPU sells for about $2,000, while AMD’s 3950X will be less than half of that at $750. The results show the AMD chip besting the Intel one in single-core score (5,868 vs. 5,395). But it's the 3950X's multi-core score that's especially impressive, with a 31% advantage over the i9-9980XE, which scores (on average) only 46,618 points, according to Geekbench. Granted, we don’t know the full story here and under which conditions the AMD CPU was tested. Geekbench shows the chip as having a 3.3 GHz base clock speed and a 4.3 GHz turbo clock speed, which may point to this chip being an engineering sample. That means that the Ryzen 9 3950X could show even better performance in the fall, as AMD advertised a 3.5-GHz base clock speed and a 4.7-GHz boosted clock speed for the chip. Current Geekbench results put the Intel Core i9- 9900K above the AMD 3950X in single-thread performance (6,209 vs. 5,868), but if the AMD chip truly ran at 4.3 GHz turbo clock speed in the test, then it could reach around 6,400 points in the fall at 4.7 GHz. AMD Ryzen 9 3950X At E3 this week, AMD announced its high-end consumer CPU for the new Ryzen 3000 series. It said that its own benchmarks show that the 3950X beats Intel’s 9960X, even without Intel’s chips being patched for the latest MDS flaws, which can reduce the performance of Intel’s chips by 10-20%, according to some third-party benchmarks. Apparently, AMD didn’t test the new chip on the latest Windows 10 1903, which brings a new scheduler that better handles the intercommunication between the Ryzen CPU Core Complexes (CCXs). Some users have claimed it has increased their CPU’s performance by over 10%, although it’s likely that some use will see a much bigger improvement than others. The new benchmark results, if they are to be believed, seem to put AMD in an even better position against Intel’s highest-end consumer chips. However, we won’t know for sure until we see do our own testing this fall. If AMD’s 3950X can deliver anywhere close to the same performance as the i9-9980XE, the AMD chip could be a no-brainer for the budget-conscious looking for performance in this range.
