According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has brought in new writer Michael Waldron to work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . This comes on the heels of the studio swapping out original director Scott Derrickson -who left due to creative differences- for Sam Raimi, who is currently in negotiations to helm the project. Jade Barlett was the original writer on Multiverse of Madness , which was touted as Marvel’s first scary movie when it was first announced. THR posits that disagreements about the level of horror in the film may have led to Derrickson stepping down. And with Waldron now stepping in to re-write the project, it’s clear Marvel is taking a much different approach to Doctor Strange’s next solo outing than originally thought. That said, Waldron now finds himself in the extraordinary position of working on three top shelf properties — the Disney+ series Loki , the Starz family drama Heels , and the USA series Florida Man . Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Stephen Strange, with Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. Olsen’s upcoming Disney+ series, WandaVision , will also tie into the sequel. Additionally, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Loki series will be linked to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well. Filming is expected to begin in May. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Benedict Wong are both expected to return for the sequel. However, Rachel McAdams will reportedly bow out of reprising her role of Dr. Christine Palmer. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021. According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has given the thumbs up to Monster Mash , an original musical film being set up for Matt Stawski to direct from a screenplay by Will Widger. “Monster Mash” was a novelty song by Bobby “Boris” Pickett first released in 1962 when it shot to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart just before Halloween, becoming a perennial holiday favorite ever since. It has been covered numerous times, including by Horror punk band The Misfits. As of now there are zero details on the film’s plot or characters, or if it will be part of Universal’s evolving Dark Universe which includes the upcoming Invisible Man and Paul Feig’s Dark Army .
