i put everything on external HDDs. al my machines have relatively small SSDs and this also allows me to move the data around easier between my devices (tv/imac/laptop/etc)

its mixing for me. Entertainment goes to internal storage, personal stuff is backed up to external storage.

Only the stuff that it is really worth it is stored in external hard drive, everything else is cleared.

I store most of my content games, movies, music in internal HD, I store some of the movies and PS3 games on external HD.
