  3. JAMES BOND 25 will make Daniel Craig the highest paid star in Hollywood. You won't believe how much he is getting to return as OO7. According to Variety, the actor will be getting a mammoth basic pay package which propels him beyond stars like Dwayne Johnson, Robert Downey Jr and Tom Cruise. Bond 25 still doesn't even have a release date (or even year) or a confirmed filming schedule, but it appears Craig has locked in an incredible pay-out to guarantee his return one last time. 4. The film industry has sent a clear message to Netflix: You can’t sit with us. Industry insiders clearly think Netflix’s films are somehow “less than” those released in theaters. Steven Spielberg told ITV News the streaming service’s releases shouldn’t be eligible for Oscars. Christopher Nolan told IndieWire he would never work with the company. Cannes banned Netflix’s films from competition, prompting Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos to pull all of the service’s films from the festival, even the ones that weren’t eligible to win anything. “We want our films to be on fair ground with every other filmmaker,” Sarandos told Variety. And why shouldn’t they be? They star A-list actors (Will Smith, Adam Sandler). They’re helmed by respected directors (Martin Scorsese, Noah Baumbach). And they truly do compete with movie-theater films, scoring Oscar nominations and winning other prestigious awards. Film industry haters should really reconsider. Even the snobbiest film buffs can’t deny that Netflix is bringing something positiveto the world of cinema. Instead of lashing out against Netflix, the industry could benefit by embracing some of what Netflix is doing right. First, the film industry might want to take more risks. “Studios are lagging behind for the very simple reason that they are relying on retreads and reboots, and most of those aren’t being well received,” Jeff Bock, an expert on film industry trends at Exhibitor Relations, told Business Insider. Sure, for every unicorn like Beasts of No Nation, Netflix releases a dozen films that fall flat. But giving lesser-known filmmakers or outside-the-box story ideas a chance has paid off for Netflix. Plus it’s helping establish an audience for the Spielbergs and Nolans of tomorrow. How could that possibly be bad for cinema? The industry might also want to rethink its pricing model. The average cost of a movie theater ticket in 2017 was $8.97. In major cities like New York or Los Angeles, that can be much higher. For comparison, an entire month of Netflix costs between $7.99 and $13.99. Yes, the theater has overhead to pay, but according to Variety, most of the blame for rising ticket prices belongs to the increase in IMAX and 3D screenings. In other words: it’s because of the dang screens. If Netflix’s success means anything, it’s that (screen) size really doesn’t matter. Instead of putting money into more of these premium screenings, the industry might want to make movies more affordable. One way to do that would be by following Netflix’s subscription model. And oh look! Such a service already exists: MoviePass. MoviePass subscribers pay $9.95 for the ability to see up to four 2D-movies in the theater per month. MoviePass then pays the theater for every ticket, with the hope that, eventually, they’ll be able to earn a profit by selling site advertisements or partnering with theaters on special screenings. And guess what: MoviePass now has 2 million subscribers. People want this service. The bad news is that the company is simply bleeding money. If theaters wanted to get more butts in seats, they could consider partnering with MoviePass or creating a similar subscription service. Ultimately, if movie theaters want to compete with Netflix, they need to look at what Netflix offers — more options, more affordably — and figure out how to apply that to the theater experience. After all, turning away the cool new kid isn’t going to suddenly make everyone else want to sit at your table.

  6. Avengers Infinity War movie review: Marvel has made an ambitious tragedy of Godlike proportions, a films that knows we love these characters - Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Loki and others. Avengers: Infinity War Directors - Anthony Russo & Joe Russo Cast - Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Josh Brolin, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Zoe Saldana Rating: 4/5 We are all, in our own way, chasing dragons. Large or small, permanent or fleeting, it is with these memories of the past that we look at the present, and the future. The elderly want to be young again, the young want to be free. Tony Stark wants redemption, and I want my blockbusters to remind me of the first time I watched the Avengers unite on screen. The first time that Iron Man brought the party to us, and Hulk told Cap that he’s always angry; the first time that we heard that classic Avengers theme and saw our heroes in the same frame together, ready to save the world. These are the moments that movies are made of. These are the dragons we chase. In Avengers: Infinity War, our optimism pays off. Almost. Watch the trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War here But back then we didn’t really know what to expect. It’s possible that many of us hadn’t even seen all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as we have now, multiple times. For instance, only the geekiest among us were aware of director Joss Whedon and his particular brand of storytelling. Even those of us that did know of his work were left scratching our heads -- Whedon was a television guy, untested in blockbuster moviemaking, let alone with a $220 million budget. But neither were the Russos, when Marvel plucked them from relative obscurity and charged them with essentially rebooting Captain America. Like Whedon, the Russo Brothers - Joe & Anthony - also come from the world of TV, but unlike him, their experience lies almost solely in sitcoms - Arrested Development and Community. They’re two of the best sitcoms of recent times, but they’re sitcoms, and not, like Avengers: Infinity War, the most expensive movie ever made. Their experience in tackling parallel plot lines, ensemble casts, and balancing humour with gravitas, I feel, perhaps served them well on Infinity War, which is, despite its astounding scale, rooted in sitcom storytelling. Bet you hadn’t heard that take before. So faced with the understandably daunting proposition of juggling close to 30 characters with respect, remaining faithful to previously established tones, and ensuring that we, as an audience, find ways to care about everyone involved - although a decade’s worth of movies has done a lot of the heavy lifting for them - the Russos went about it the only way they knew how. They segregated the Avengers into teams. Josh Brolin plays the Avengers’ most formidable villain, Thanos. (Marvel) Two parallel plots drive Avengers: Infinity War, two plots destined to collide by destiny itself: Thanos, the Mad Titan, on a quest to unite the six Infinity Stones, which, when embedded in the Infinity Gauntlet, give the owner the power to kill half the universe with a snap of his fingers. Thanos, as played by Josh Brolin, is the tissue that binds these parallel storylines, driven by an almost inexplicable thirst for power. He is, in many ways, Marvel’s version of the Old Testament God - desperate for love and obedience; a wrathful being who is quick to punish, all the while convincing himself that he is showing us - the mere mortals of Earth - a kindness. By killing us, and every other ‘weak’ race in the universe, Thanos believes that he is being merciful. A momentous occasion, the first meeting of the Guardians of the Galaxy and a member of the Avengers. (Marvel) Thor is the first to learn of his plans. Aboard Thanos’ ship with Loki, he is given the briefest glimpse of the sheer immensity of his villainy. He escapes, and is soon rescued by the Guardians of the Galaxy, who happen to be in the same sector of outer space, snapping their fingers to ‘80s chartbusters. The Russos send Thor and the Guardians on their own mission, while Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man - who is hilariously inducted into the Avengers at the most inopportune moment - go after Thanos directly, after being warned of his arrival by Bruce Banner, and a couple of Thanos’ henchmen. Chris Evans has been in Wakanda since he escaped from prison at the end of Captain America: Civil War. (Marvel) Meanwhile, in Wakanda, Steve Rogers brings together Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Bucky and T’Challa - who, by the way, gets a hero entry to beat even Captain America’s. Their job is to help defend Vision, within whom resides the Mind Stone, the most coveted piece to the puzzle Thanos is so close to solving. Somehow, despite coming very close (on almost as many occasions as there are Infinity Stones) to messing it up - there is a certain relentlessness to the storytelling - the Russos are largely successful in their attempt to make another episode of a larger story. Because that’s exactly what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is - the most expensive piece of episodic entertainment ever made, run by the trailblazing Kevin Feige. No wonder he hires TV guys for these movies. This is also the most visually ambitious the Russos have ever been. They ditch the dull, grey uniformity of their previous two Marvel movies for a more vibrant, more freewheeling palette. But despite how tremendous Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War were, the Russos’ handling of small-scale action (by which I mean hand-to-hand combat) was oddly jittery, too heavily edited, without any room left for us to appreciate its nuances. Unfortunately, it appears that the problem would have to be solved another day, because they certainly didn’t address it here. There can be no doubt, however, as to their ability to shoot large-scale set pieces. God knows there’s enough evidence here - this movie is, at a polite estimate, 60% action. But while the Russos showed restraint in Civil War by limiting IMAX to the airport fight, Infinity War - and many of you might not know this - is the first film ever to have been entirely shot in that format. Watching it in IMAX 3D was an overwhelming experience. You will notice every pore on Thanos’ incredibly rendered skin and every minor tick Brolin sneaks in, every wrinkle on Robert Downey Jr’s ageing face, and every fibre on Doctor Strange’s cloak. The Battle of Wakanda is grander in scale than the Battle of New York from the first Avengers movie. (Marvel) We’ve come a long way since the Mach I armour, haven’t we? But it was a necessary journey, a journey that prepared us for the utterly jaw-dropping conclusion to this one. Despite being more bloated than any other Marvel movie, Infinity War’s strengths lie in the relationships that we’ve developed, over 10 years, with these characters - and the relationships they’ve formed with each other. New friendships will be made, as will new enemies. And as we’ve made more than clear with the $15 billion we’ve paid to watch these movies, we don’t really have anything better going on for the next 10 years either. It’s Marvel’s move next. It’s always their move.
  7. On Tuesday, Avengers: Infinity War crossed fellow Disney hit, The Jungle Book, to become the highest grossing Hollywood film in India. The film has made over Rs 246 crore in less than two weeks. Avengers: Infinity War has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India, eclipsing another Disney film, The Jungle Book. Infinity War, the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, achieved the milestone in less than two weeks of its release. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, it beat Jungle Book’s Rs 182 crore net and Rs 261 crore gross figures with gross earnings of Rs 246 crore and net earnings of Rs 192 crore. The record-breaking numbers also make it the fifth biggest contributor to Infinity War’s global box office figures of $1.1 billion. The film has been breaking records worldwide despite not having been released in China yet. The Middle Kingdom has emerged as the world’s second largest movie market. With over $35 million in the bank so far in India, the film’s other top grossing territories include South Korea ($69 million), UK ($67 million, Mexico ($48 million) and Brazil ($44 million). Despite being released on just 2000 screens - a big Bollywood film will usually secure twice that - Infinity War exceeded all expectations. It made over Rs 100 crore in its opening weekend, an unprecedented figure for a foreign film in India. Other top grossing Hollywood movies in India are Furious 7 and Jurassic World (both made over Rs 150 crore) and Spider-Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron (both crossed Rs 100 crore) With a China release scheduled for May 11 - Captain America: Civil War debuted with $98 million there, while Black Panther opened to a solid $66 million - Infinity War will now set its sights on the $2 billion mark globally. Its current total stands at a little over $1.1 billion in just 11 days of release. Only three films have crossed $2 billion in history - James Cameron’s films Avatar ($2.7 billion) and Titanic ($2.1 billion), and JJ Abram’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2 billion). Infinity War is well paced to become the highest grossing entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Iron Man 3 ($1.2 billion), Black Panther ($1.3 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron($1.4 billion) and The Avengers ($1.5 billion) in touching distance.
  8. TORRENT users have been put on alert and warned that they could have fallen victim to a huge data leak. Torrent downloaders are been warned that sensitive information such as their e-mail addresses and locations could be vulnerable. Recently, one of the main destinations for torrent fans looking to download TV shows has displayed a stark warning. EZTV is one of the most popular destinations for torrent users looking to download the latest episode of their favourite TV show. For more than a decade BitTorrent users have turned to the site for all their TV torrent needs. But last week a message to the site’s visitors appeared on the release of the latest episode of hit TV series Lucifer. After around 10 minutes into Lucifer S03E19, a red warning appeared claiming that EZTV poses a huge security risk. The torrented episode then shows dozens of IP addresses on the screen, making the instalment of Lucifer almost impossible to watch, TorrentFreak reported. The messages on the screen claim these IP-addresses are “used on EZTV”, which could suggest that the website has had a leak. Or, alternatively, it could refer to IP addresses of downloaders which are public. The veracity of these claims are unclear. The IP addresses allegedly of EZTV users could just be fake and the Lucifer security warning is simply bogus. At the end of the episode, a final warning appears that is claimed to come from encoder DeXoX. It says: “If you need complete IP database email address of registered users and so on, feel free to contact us.” The offending torrent has been downloaded thousands of times and is still listed on EZTV days after first appearing. Soon after the Lucifer torrent emerged, others also appeared on EZTV with the same warning - including one porn video. The news comes after last month a new study emerged that showed the rate of online piracy continues to increase. Online streaming and visits to torrent sites continues to increase with new data suggesting global piracy rose by 1.6 per cent last year. According to digital firm MUSO, there were over 300 billion visits to piracy sites in 2017. Most of these views came from people trying to stream illegally but MUSO also saw a major increase in torrent usage. The firm said this could be as a result of users becoming frustrated with their regular web-streaming sites being blocked or shutdown, and therefore choosing to return to trusted and more traditional methods of piracy. Speaking about the data Andy Chatterley, co-founder and CEO, MUSO, said: “There is a belief that the rise in popularity of on-demand services – such as Netflix and Spotify – have solved piracy, but that theory simply doesn’t stack up. "Our data suggests that piracy is more popular than ever. “With the data showing us that 53 per cent of all piracy happens on unlicensed streaming platforms, it has become clear that streaming is the most popular way for consumers to access content, whether it be via legitimate channels, or illegitimate ones.”

  12. Heard of BitTorrent, but not quite sure how to use it, or wonder whether you should use it at all? Here’s a quick guide for newbies on how it works and how to get started downloading torrent files. What is BitTorrent? BitTorrent is an internet peer-to-peer file sharing protocol that works in a sort of decentralized fashion. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that as you download portions of your files from the the person who originally shared the file, you are also getting portions from fellow downloaders to maximize data exchange. BitTorrent is one of the most commonly used protocols for transferring very large files because it doesn’t overload web servers that provide downloads—since everybody is both sending and receiving, it’s much more efficient than everybody downloading from a single server. How BitTorrent Works To better understand how this all works, take a look at this diagram from Wikipedia detailing the process: In this animation, the colored bars beneath all of the 7 clients in the upper region above represent the file, with each color representing a individual piece of the file. After the initial pieces transfer from the seed (large system at the bottom), the pieces are individually transferred from client to client. The original seeder only needs to send out one copy of the file for all the clients to receive a copy. To stop animation, click browser’s Stop or hit ESC key.” Indexers An “indexer” is a site that compiles a list of torrents and descriptions and is a place where users form a community (with rules!) around BitTorrent content. When you want to share, download, or request files, the indexer’s community is where you go. These usually take the form of a forum and/or an IRC channel. Trackers A “tracker” is a server that assists in directing peers, initiated downloads, and maintaining statistics. Since most indexers have their own private tracker, most people just refer to them both as trackers. In this article, we’re going to use this more general definition to avoid confusion with whatever you may find yourself on the internet. Trackers route little pieces of data, or packets, to downloaders and assist them in connecting to their fellow peers—as you download chunks of files, you also upload them to other people who have different chunks of the file, and because everybody’s sharing with each other while downloading, it tends to zip along quickly. Seeders and Leechers Once you’re done downloading, you become a “seeder” and you continue to upload to other peers. If you disable uploading and you only download, you’re referred to as a “leecher,” and aside from its ethical misgivings it can lead to being banned from the tracker. As such, it’s generally good practice to seed at least as much as you download. Image by nrkbeta Public vs Private Trackers Another aspect of trackers are whether they are public or private—the “Private” trackers are based on membership, so only registered users can download, upload, and/or have access to perks like additional downloads. “Public” trackers usually don’t require registration, or if they do, it’s free and always open. In general, the best experience comes from a private tracker with a strong community, so be sure to look around and see if you can’t find one that suits your tastes. BitTorrent Clients The other side of the BitTorrent equation can be found on your local computer: a client. The client’s job is to manage your torrents, actually connect to other peers, manage statistics on your end, and, of course, download and upload. While the tracker gives instructions on what to do and how to connect, it’s the client that actually does the heavy-lifting. Because of this, it’s important that you choose a client you trust as well as a client that performs amiably. There’s no lack of free, feature-packed BitTorrent clients, but we strongly recommend uTorrent (for Windows) and Transmission (for Mac OS and Linux). uTorrent is a powerhouse of an app, and easily one of the lightest to run on Windows. Transmission is installed by default on Ubuntu and many other Linux distributions, and the Mac version runs extremely well and has Growl support. They are both novice and resource-friendly but don’t skip out on some of the more useful options for advanced users. Note: uTorrent, by default, enables an Ask.com toolbar during installation and offers to make your default search Ask.com. This can be turned off without any problems, but it bears mentioning. Legality of BitTorrent BitTorrent itself is a protocol, so it falls to individual trackers as to what’s legal and what’s not. If a copyright violation occurs, it is the tracker that is primarily held responsible, and subsequently its users. You probably should avoid blindly downloading copyrighted works on public trackers, since your IP address can be easily tracked. There are many legal uses for BitTorrent, however—for instance, most community-driven Linux distributions offer torrents for their ISOs. Phish fans often record live shows (so long as they comply with Phish’s policy on music trading) and share them online, as do many artists themselves. There are plenty of legal trackers out there, as well as torrent aggregators that compile links to legal downloads hosted on other trackers. Here’s a couple of examples: Jamendo is a free music tracker that distributes Creative Commons-licensed albums, and artists can contribute their own album if it’s licensed in the same way. Linux Tracker provides downloads to Linux distributions, both popular and low-key, and serves as a great alternative for downloading ISO files. Clear Bits offers “open licensed digital media” downloads for free, charging content providers instead. And, as always, Google can be a powerful ally in finding legal torrents. We here at How-To Geek do not condone piracy and we urge you to please download responsibly. Downloading Torrents Things are shared through “torrents,” small files containing text that act as instructions for the tracker. In order to download files, you hop on your tracker’s website and download the torrent file, which is usually under 30 KB. You then open that torrent in your chosen BitTorrent and you’ve started to download! The process is that simple, although there is a lot you can do to make the most of your connection if you play around with your client. Step by Step First and foremost, download and install your chosen BitTorrent client. Here, I’m using uTorrent as my chosen client on Windows. If you’re using Mac or Linux, it won’t be too hard to follow along using Transmission. Next, we need a torrent file. I’ve got a torrent of Countdown’s album “Break Rise Blowing” from Jamendo. Once you have your torrent file in an easy-to-reach (or well-organized) location, all you have to do is double-click on the .torrent file to load it in your client. You’ll see uTorrent pop up and you’ll get a dialog with option for the specific download. Here, you can choose where the torrent will download to, whether or not you want to add it to the top of your queue of torrents, and you can even unmark individual files from being downloaded. Once you’ve settled on what you’d like, you can go ahead and click on OK In the main uTorrent window you’ll see your queue. From here you can manage your torrents: The Pause button will pause downloading, but keep its connections open. The Stop button will stop downloading and close its connections. The Play button will start downloads once they’ve been paused or stopped. The red X button will give you a prompt to delete your torrent (and files, if you choose). The Up arrow will raise your torrent’s priority amongst all of the currently active torrents. The Down arrow will lower its priority in the queue. Getting started is just that easy. The world of BitTorrent is vast, but hopefully this introduction will give you the incentive to take the plunge. Happy torrenting!
  13. All of the disabled websites were operated by the same organisation, which has itself disappeared Thousands of proxies for torrent websites, which allowed users to circumvent court-ordered blocks on sites that share pirated media, have mysteriously disappeared. As TorrentFreak reports, many popular proxies to torrent websites like The Pirate Bay, KickAssTorrents and ExtraTorrent have vanished, leaving users unable to access the websites. Proxies work by duplicating or 'mirroring' torrent websites that have been blocked by court orders due to copyright infringement. By reproducing these websites under another domain name, they allow users to get around the block and access them. However, these mirrors are in breach of the law too, resulting in a constant cat-and-mouse game between torrent site owners, proxies, users and the authorities. Now, it appears that thousands of these proxy sites have disappeared, with some offering the domain names for sale on generic landing pages. Research by TorrentFreak found that many of the sites were connected to ProxyHouse, a large operation that runs proxy sites for other torrent websites. Even the ProxyHouse domain is now defunct and up for sale. Why the sites were shut down is a mystery, but it could be due to legal action by the film and music industries, whose content is illegally downloaded through these sites. Although the shutdown is significant and wide-ranging, thousands more proxy sites are still available. The main effect of the disappearances is likely to be that downloaders will simply have to look a little harder for new proxies.
