  2. This weekend the long-awaited music app Aurous was released to the public. The app's creator promised that the app would be the Popcorn Time for music, but can it really live up to that momentous claim? And what about TorrentTunes? Last month, news of an upcoming piece of music software began to cause waves in the media. Cleverly marketed as the Popcorn Time for music, Aurous promised to use the BitTorrent network to stream pirated music to the masses, for free. This weekend the first version of the software made it’s debut and on first sight it looks great. The user-interface reminds one of other streaming apps such as Spotify and is free of advertisements. However, after playing with the application for a little while the excitement quickly begins to fade. The first thing that stands out is the limited content library. Many artists and tracks are absent, for example. In addition, the app doesn’t allow users to sort per album, artist, or create playlists. On the technical side there’s an unpleasant surprise as well. For now, Aurous doesn’t use BitTorrent at all, instead it pulls MP3s from external services such as Pleer and VK. Perhaps these issues will eventually be resolved in the future, but overall Aurous fails to impress. Aurous The same is true for another player that launched previously, TorrentTunes. The application, which also has a web based player, does use the BitTorrent network and allows people to stream music. TorrentTunes also offers more advanced discovery options than Aurous. Technically everything seems to work fine and like Aurous the coding may be brilliant, but again there’s something crucial missing. A competitive advantage, mostly in terms of content. Popcorn Time became iconic because it offers an appealing and easy to use interface, but looks alone are not good enough to impress. The true power of Popcorn Time comes from the content, where it beats many legal streaming services including Netflix. TorrentTunes Aurous and TorrentTunes may look nice and work well, but these “pirate” apps lose out to legal services such as Spotify when it comes to content. They even have a hard time beating YouTube. Even if the apps manage to catch up in terms of content there will be other issues, such as speed. Loading a track from a torrent file being shared by a handful of people is not going to be instant. This doesn’t mean that both apps won’t get any users. There may still be plenty of interest, but it will be nothing compared to Popcorn Time’s ‘revolution.’ The crucial issue is that it’s harder for “pirate” music apps to stand out compared to legal alternatives. There’s simply not much room to improve other than the price tag. Perhaps this is something the movie industry should take note of. So yes, the Popcorn Time for music has arrived. Only it arrived more than half a decade ago, and it’s called Spotify.
  3. Seeking clarification, a Dutch court has referred several streaming related questions to the EU Court of Justice. The questions relate to a case between local anti-piracy group BREIN and a seller of so-called "pirate boxes" that come pre-loaded with streaming plugins. It is currently unclear whether streaming pirated movies is permitted under EU law. Online streaming continues to gain in popularity, both from authorized and pirate sources. Unlike traditional forms of downloading, however, in many countries the legality of viewing unauthorized streams remains unclear. In the European Union this may change in the near future. Earlier this month a Dutch court referred several streaming related questions to the EU Court of Justice. The questions were raised in a case between Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN and the Filmspeler.nl shop, which sells “piracy configured” media players. While these devices don’t host any infringing content, they ship with add-ons that make it very easy to watch infringing content. While BREIN argues that this is illegal a local court is not yet convinced that it’s an offense under current law and wants Europe’s highest court to decide. The first set of questions is closely tied to the case and asks whether selling pre-programmed media-players with links to pirate sources is permitted, and whether it matters if the add-ons are freely available, among other things. These are important questions as pre-loaded boxes are commonly sold in the EU. Despite the legal uncertainty, this has already resulted in a raid and arrest by UK police earlier this year. The second set of questions is even more crucial since it relates to streaming in general, which affects millions of users and large multinationals such as Google. Broadly translated, the court first asks the following question: “Is it lawful under EU law to temporarily reproduce content through streaming if the content originates from a third-party website where it’s made available without permission?” If this is not the case, then the EU Court of Justice is asked to clarify whether it violates the “three-step-test” of the EU Copyright Directive. The answers will be of interest to many stakeholders including Google who have a significant interest in streaming related issues because of YouTube, and members of the general public since streaming is so common now. BREIN is happy with the court’s referral and hopes that the EU Court’s ruling will bring more clarity on the streaming issue. But for now, it doesn’t plan to stop going after sellers of pirate boxes. “BREIN is pleased that more clarity will be given through these fundamental questions which in the current case law of the CJEU stay unanswered. Meanwhile BREIN persists in its approach towards traders of similar media-players with illegal preprogrammed software,” the group notes.

  6. Michael Jackson was desperate to play Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars and suggested he used "prosthetics and full make-up". The part eventually went to Ahmed Best, who played the character for the first time in 1999's Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and the two subsequent movies. Jar Jar Binks was a seven-foot tall orange Gungan who spoke in a strange patois and was completely dreamt up via CGI. He also divided fans and was ravaged by critics. Ahmed didn't know what was in store for him when he signed on, although he did come to realise that the King of Pop had been eyeing the role. "That's what George [Lucas, director] told me," he told vice.com. "Me, Natalie Portman [co-star], and George's kids - we were at Wembley arena at Michael Jackson's concert. We were taken backstage and we met Michael. There was Michael and Lisa Marie [Presley, Michael's former wife]. George introduced me as, 'Jar Jar,' and I was like, 'That's kind of weird.' Michael was like, 'Oh. OK.' I thought, 'What is going on' After Michael had driven off, we all go back up to a big after-party. I'm having a drink with George and I said, 'Why did you introduce me as Jar Jar' He said, 'Well, Michael wanted to do the part but he wanted to do it in prosthetics and make-up like [in the video for his track] Thriller.' George wanted to do it in CGI. My guess is ultimately Michael Jackson would have been bigger than the movie, and I don't think he wanted that." Some would say Michael had a lucky escape with what came next, as Ahmed was widely savaged by the press. It was initially a big shock to him as he expected the character to go down well and had been excited to land a part on one of the most prestigious movie franchises going. Looking back, the actor believes many wanted George to fail which is why there was so much negativity surrounding the project. Ahmed feels Jar Jar was "so experimental" that people didn't know how to react to him, and he also feels bad that child actor Jake Lloyd - who played Anakin Skywalker - was also slammed. Ahmed brushed the jibes off, explaining he is from the Bronx and it takes more than harsh words to hurt him. But he struggled with how upset it made his little co-star. "I did. Earlier I did," he replied, when asked if he ever felt he had to step in to protect him as a big brother would. "Say what you want to say, but leave the kid alone, let him grow up. The amount of vitriol he took as an eight-year-old was just wrong, and it affected him. "I think people are smart enough when they meet me to not go too far because I am who I am and I come from where I come from. At the end of the day, acting is fun but I will knock you the f**k out if you step out of line. That's just where I come from. Respect is a big deal."
  7. Chris Brown has finally been allowed to leave the Philippines. The singer had been detained in Manila for three days, following his cancellation of a New Year's Eve concert, which he claimed was because he couldn't find his passport. The show was organised by a company run by members of an influential religious group, and they filed a fraud complaint after he performed in the country on Tuesday. Chris has now obtained a certificate that granted him leave, with Immigration Bureau spokeswoman Elaine Tan explaining the decision. '[Clearance was given after] verifying that Chris Brown has no other derogatory record apart from the (immigration lookout bulletin) [that was issued Wednesday]. 'Departure formalities will be implemented by immigration officers at the airport,' she told Page Six. Chris obtained the right documents at the bureau's extension office - not the main office where many journalists were waiting outside. Chris uploaded a video to his Instagram showing himself walking towards the plane and encouraged fans to check out his show in China tonight. 'Manila it was fun, I love ya'll man. You're free to come to Macau, and party tonight. Turn up!' he told the camera. Chris uploaded another video earlier this week, where he got down on his knees and begged to be let out of the country. He captioned the video 'OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!', but has since deleted it. The 26-year-old's travel troubles came just a week after his Californian home was broken in to by armed robbers, who held his aunt at gun point. It's been suggested that the thieves are people Chris knows well.
  8. Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have been "cracking up laughing" over their Twitter beef. The hip-hop star and pop singer became embroiled in a war of words on the social media website this week following the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominees announcement. Nicki was furious her track Anaconda wasn't mentioned in the coveted Video of the Year category, calling out the decision online. Taylor thought the barbed comment was at her and hit back, causing a heated exchange. Yesterday Taylor apologised, admitting she'd been in the wrong and hadn't realised Nicki was slamming the industry as a whole. Nicki accepted via Twitter and has now revealed the pair also had a discussion to clear the air. "I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone. She was super, super sweet and she apologised. She said, 'Look, you know I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it, so we're all good,'" she explained on Good Morning America. "So yes, we spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It's over, you guys! And I love you guys for supporting me. Thank you so much." Originally Nicki fumed that she was bored of awards being filled with women with very slim bodies, with Taylor then calling her out for pitting women against each other. In fact, the rapper was pointing out that Anaconda has broken records worldwide and sparked a social media frenzy, which she believes should have meant it scored a Video of the Year nod. Those who made it into the category are Beyoncé Knowles for 7/11, Ed Sheeran for Thinking Out Loud, Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar for Bad Blood, Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars with Uptown Funk and Kendrick Lamar's Alright. It seems Nicki is now so over her spat with Taylor that she'd even be up for hitting the studio with the star. "I'm sure we can. You know why? Because it takes a big person to do what Taylor did and everyone sometimes speaks out of turn, you know? I've been there. Sometimes we do things and we don't think right away or we don't investigate and then we just talk, so it was big of her to come out and say that," she said. The hip-hop star reiterated that for her, the main point is for the media to start celebrating all body types rather than fixating on just one.

  10. John Newman follows his new single 'Come And Get It' with the eagerly awaited release of his brand new second album 'Revolve'. The follow up to Newman's Platinum selling number 1 debut 'Tribute', 'Revolve' looks set to confirm the Yorkshireman as one of the UK's most singular talents and consistently successful artists. The success of 'Come And Get It' follows John's recent collaboration with Calvin Harris on the no. 1 Global smash 'Blame' which has sold over 4 million worldwide and has been streamed an unbelievable 270 million times. 'Blame' gave John his third UK no. 1 single following Rudimental's 'Feel The Love' and his own chart-topping debut 'Love Me Again'. Fans had a chance to hear some of the new songs when the double Brit Award nominee recently performed in front of an audience of 65,000 as special guest on Taylor Swift's British Summer Time concert in Hyde Park. The following night he was headlining the prestigious European Games Closing Ceremony in a stadium with 50,000 baying fans. Lady Gaga had opened the games two weeks earlier. 'Revolve' feels classic, timeless, but never retro. Opening with an intro featuring Idris Elba, the album was produced by John and recorded in Los Angeles, London and Miami, alongside a crack team of musicians and producers including Greg Kurstin, (Sia, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry & Lana Del Ray), the legendary Charlie Wilson from The Gap Band on future smash 'Tiring Game', Jack Splash and Jerry Hey's brass section (Michael Jackson's' Thriller, Quincy Jones). Revolve was also recorded single by single - an approach John learnt from his friend Calvin Harris. 'I remember going out for a cigarette, just after we'd finished recording' remarks Newman, 'and I thought to myself, 'This is very surreal, and I'm in LA and making my second record. I'm actually doing it...'. At this point it's worth remembering John Newman is 25 years old and in a very short time he's gone from being a sensitive kid from a small town in North Yorkshire, to a guy who hops back and forward to Los Angeles and records at Michael Jackson's old studio. A little re-cap ' 'Tribute', John's self-penned widely acclaimed debut number 1 album, is certified platinum in the UK while breakout single 'Love Me Again' entered the chart at no. 1 selling over 900k copies sold in the UK and achieving a staggering 122 million streams globally. Indeed Newman has sold over 6 million singles world-wide to date. Vevo/Youtube video plays stand at a rudely healthy 380 million, while John's social stats are equally impressive with 1.6 million fans on Facebook, 480k Twitter followers and over 100k followers on Instagram. The success of the debut album and attendant singles wasn't confined to these shores with Newman's career really taking off in the US and across the globe. 'Tribute' reached no. 2 on the US iTunes chart and European and Antipodean success was equally notable with double platinum status in Australia, Italy, Czech Republic and Norway, Platinum success in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland and Gold status in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. An accompanying book, also entitled 'Revolve' and published by Quadrille, is a first person account by John documenting the creative process involved in the making of albums one and two and will be released at the same time.
  11. Lena Dunham wouldn't even think to be jealous of Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX's relationship. The two singers are currently on tour together, taking in dates across America. Being in such close quarters to each other may bother respective partners but Jack, who has been dating Girls star Lena since 2012, says his lady shouldn't fret. 'Nope,' Jack stated when Details asked if Lena was even a bit jealous of Jack hitting the road with sexy Charli. 'A) The answer is no. And B) There's no way I can answer that question. So I'll just stick with no.' 'No, not at all,' Charli chimed in. 'She's one of the coolest girls alive in the world. And they're so in love. I don't think that would even cross her mind.' Kicking off their shows in San Diego earlier this week, the Charli and Jack Do America tour comes to a close in October. Jack's used to being away from Lena, first with group fun. and now his side project Bleachers, but says the loved up pair know how to handle long distance. 'It's about being present, even though you're not with people. Literally, it's about people knowing what's going on in your life. It's so easy to get into this inertia that happens on tour, where you don't want to talk and you just want to sit there on the bus and crack open a coconut, which is part of the experience of being on tour. 'But you have to work at it, even though it feels like swimming against the current to call home and remind people what's going on. I always feel so much better when I do that. But it could be really easy to not do that and be like, 'Just f**k off',' he admitted.
  12. Carly Rae Jepsen is getting used to her "spoilt" lifestyle. The 29-year-old singer has had a busy scheduling since releasing her third studio album E•MO•TION, which boasts singles I Really Like You and Run Away With Me. It means constant jetting around the globe and having little time to herself, which has its ups and downs for Carly. "I'm permanently jet-lagged, which is like a new state of weird. I'm just kind of bouncing from country to country every two days and living out of a suitcase and getting really used to room service. It's a spoilt life, but a weird life," she told BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw. "I mean promo is always a bit of a strange time 'cause yeah, you hop around, but it's still awesome. I mean I can't really complain." There are some amusing situations along the way too, such as appearing on talk shows in other countries. When Carly visits Japan she has to be "game" for whatever bizarre scenarios they throw at her. One example was when she mentioned how much she likes avocado on toast for breakfast, which led to her teaching a class of fans how to make it - despite it only being two steps. Host Nick also took the time to quiz Carly on her thoughts about the recent Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift spat, which saw the women have a dispute on Twitter over the MTV VMAs. The rapper was disappointed her track Anaconda missed out on a Video of the Year nod and voiced her opinion on the matter, with the blonde singer taking her comments the wrong way. The ladies have made up now and Carly thinks things got blown out of proportion. "I feel like there is a new age where women are much less competitive. I feel like the media does that too sometimes," she commented on the dispute. "Remember back in the day with Britney Spears against Christina Aguilera, and you're like, 'Is that really real or are they just trying to cause drama?'"
  13. Katy Perry and John Mayer have allegedly gone their separate ways. The two singers were first linked in 2012 and have enjoyed an on/off romance over the last three years. In 2014 there were even reports of an engagement, but the pair never seem to stay together long enough. Now E! News is reporting John and Katy have gone their separate ways once again. An insider dished the dirt that they'd called it quits, but offered up no further details other than they'll probably make it up in the future. John and Katy have already taken one break this year, calling time on the shaky romance in March. The reason given then was trust issues, with Katy apparently finding it hard to place it in ladies' man John. In return John was said to have been having a hard time with the lack of attention Katy was giving him. 'Katy and John reconnected once she had a break in her Prismatic World Tour. So, for those few months they had a great time, pretending that it would last - and of course it didn't,' a source told Radar at the time. Neither star has spoken about the alleged split on their social media accounts. Instead it's been business as usual for Katy, who launched her new perfume Mad Potion recently. 'Had a magical time launching MAD POTION at the Magic Castle yesterday! Thank you KC's for all your rad support for our Twitter store @katyperrypopup You can still purchase it from the pop up and follow it for updates on where you can find it in stores! S/O to one of my favorite lines @officiallibertine for my dress! (sic),' she posted on Instagram next to a snap of her with purple hair surrounded by flowers.
  14. Robyn is trying her best to avoid 'old patterns and behaviours' when it comes to music. The 36-year-old Swedish musician made pop history after the release of her three-part Body Talk album series in 2010. In the past five years she has taken a break, but also worked on collaborations with fellow Swedish artists like Röyksopp, with whom she released 2014 EP Do It Again. "I've been questioning if I really want to keep doing what I've always done," she told BBC News. "Both this [La Bagatelle Magique collab] and the Röyksopp album are things I've been doing in the meantime, while figuring that out. "It's so easy to fall into old patterns and behaviours. There's always a time for change. I don't know exactly where that's going to lead me." Robyn is currently promoting her new EP Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique. She worked on this extended play with keyboardist Markus Jägerstedt and the late musician Christian Falk, who died at the age of 52 last year from pancreatic cancer. Robyn worked with her friend for over two decades before his demise. "He taught me so much about music," she recalled. "He started out as a punk bass player and then got into house music in the 80s and 90s, and from there he moved on to hip-hop and all kinds of music. He was like a magpie." Christian's lethal diagnosis took place while they were creating music for the album. And Robyn confesses it was 'really hard' for her and Markus to return to the studio after their dear friend and collaborator passed. "We kept working as much as we could," Robyn said. "Then of course when he. at the end of his. his fight with cancer it got really difficult to be in the studio. "We kept playing things to him, all the way up to the end. We mixed the first song two months before he died." Love Is Free, the first single from the EP by Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique, will be released August 7.
  15. Eminem has offered an apology after making a joke about Caitlyn Jenner during a freestyle rap. The 42-year-old musician, real name Marshall Mathers, appeared on radio show Sway in the Morning on Thursday to promote his involvement in the soundtrack of new movie Southpaw. During his time on the show, Eminem shows off his rapping skills with a six-minute freestyle segment. The controversial rapper certainly didn't hold back during the slot, using the rap as an opportunity to voice his opinions on in the headlines celebrities including Caitlyn, Bill Crosby and Donald Trump. Following the rap, Eminem insisted he never wanted to cause any offense with his star mentions. 'I just say s**t to say it," he said. "It's very rarely personal. If it was personal, somebody would know. It's all in fun." During his rap, Eminem discussed his own reputation as something of a difficult person to deal with, saying: 'I invented p**ck, and that's a true statement, I see the b**ch in you, Caitlyn / Keep the pistol tucked like Bruce Jenner's d**k.' He then paused for a second before adding: 'No disrespect though, not at all, no pun intended, that took a lot of balls." As he approached the end of the six-minute rap, Eminem decided to once again discuss his own reputation, while also using the opportunity to make a reference to the scandal involving Bill Cosby and allegations of sexual abuse. 'I made monopoly off misogyny," he rapped. "Sodomy, how many chocolatey Jell-o pops can he possibly lace, walking atrocity / No wonder you scoff at me, it's obvious I'm as off-putting as Bill Cosby is."
  16. Kate Moss' marriage with Jamie Hince has reportedly reached 'the point of no return'. The 41-year-old supermodel and her 46-year-old musician beau married in July 2011. But after months of rumours surrounding the state of their relationship, British newspaper The Sun has claimed the couple have called time on their romance. 'They are properly over as a married couple,' a mutual friend revealed. 'It's gone past the point of no return. 'Jamie's just waiting for Kate to move forward with divorce proceedings. Neither are in any hurry but they both suspect there won't be a reconciliation. 'They accept they'll probably have to make some sort of statement but don't want to feel forced into anything.' According to the publication, it is Kate's jealousy of her husband's female friends that began to cause issues with their marriage. The Kills rocker apparently became frustrated with his wife's paranoia. 'Jamie's been clear that they've not been close for a long time,' another friend told The Sun. 'She's always been beyond jealous about his female friends and he was sick of it.' News of the reported split comes after Kate opened up about her wedding day in an interview with Stella magazine earlier this month. Speaking about the happy occasion, Kate said it was when she felt at her most stunning. "I felt my most beautiful at my wedding. It was the most gorgeous day, with beautiful lighting and the dress [by John Galliano] was just amazing," she said. "I think it took 80 hours to hand-sew the sequins on. The whole day was just perfect."
  17. Former Runaways member Jackie Fox, or as she is known today, Jackie Fuchs, appeared on HuffPost Live Thursday to discuss her sexual assault by band manager Kim Fowley in the mid-70's. Fuchs went public with the allegations two weeks ago and, since then, both Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, who were Fuchs' bandmates, have said that they don't remember the incident. In today's interview, Jackie appeared to be accepting of Jett's lack of action although she still says that Joan was a witness to the assault. The important thing to focus on is that certainly the Joan of today would not stand by and watch a bandmate being assaulted in any way without doing something. But at the time of the incident, Joan like most of the other people in the room was a teenager. And we all like to think that we are the type of people who would stop an assault in progress because most of us are good moral people. But even good moral people have a hard time acting when they see an event of bullying or of sexual assault or anything similar. They looked around, the adults weren't doing anything, the people in the band weren't doing anything, and they just didn't want to speak up in case they were misinterpreting the situation. She also talked about wishing she could hear an apology from Fowley, who died earlier this year: I really had wanted to just hear him tell me what he was thinking that night. to find out if there was something that I hadn't realized. Ideally to hear him say, 'Look, I'm really sorry for what I did to you. I wronged you, and can you ever forgive me?' Because I would like to get to a place where I can forgive him. And I'm not there yet, but I want to be. Not for his sake, obviously, but for my own. Because carrying around hate and anger doesn't do me any good. I'm working on that.
  18. Last night on the Late Late Show with James Corden, the host and guest Paula Abdul put together on update of the classic video for Paula's hit Opposites Attract. Opposites Attract was one of the most creative videos to come out of the original music video revolution with its mix of Abdul's live performance intermixed flawlessly with a cartoon cat voiced by 'MC Skat Cat' who was actually The Wild Pair (Bruce DeShazer and Marv Gunn). Based on the dance by Gene Kelly and Tom the Mouse in the movie Anchors Away, Abdul choreographed both her dancing and the animated cat which was drawn by members of the Disney animation team under the direction of Chris Bailey. In the Late Late Show performance, Abdul and Corden didn't recreate the video, per se, but kept the look and feel of the original with new dance moves and props.
  19. Kelly Osbourne has landed a new job on TV after infamously exiting Fashion Police. The 30-year-old presenter made the difficult decision to leave the programme after an outraged public deemed Giuliana Rancic's comments about Zendaya's dreadlocked hair at the Oscars racist. But she has finally moved on from the scandal by landing a new gig on a whole new series. 'I'm so excited to finally announce that I've joined the incredible #ProjectRunwayJunior family! We just had the best first day ever!' Kelly wrote on her Instagram account Thursday in a caption attached a photo of herself posing alongside co-judges Christian Siriano, Aya Kanai and the show's host Hannah Davis. Project Runway Junior is a spin-off of the hit fashion reality TV competition Project Runway. The Junior series will showcase the talents of very young designers who range between the ages of 14 and 17. The latest TV show was greenlit in June and is set to debut this fall. Project Runway Junior came about after Project Runway anchor Heidi Klum expressed interest in a youth-oriented version of the programme due to inspiration from her own children. Tim Gunn is co-hosting Project Runway Junior with supermodel Hannah. The fifth season of Project Runway All Stars and the Project Runway Junior debut will air on Lifetime Network in the coming months. Even though Kelly has previously admitted leaving her post at Fashion Police was a challenge, the star said she enjoyed every moment she spent under the tutelage of her former co-host Joan Rivers, a comedic entertainment icon who passed away in September 2014. 'I will always, always love, love, love the time I spent working with Joan [Rivers] and George [Kotsiopoulos] and [Joan's daughter] Melissa," Kelly told People magazine. "They're the most incredible people. They're still part of my family."
  20. Taylor Swift has apologised to Nicki Minaj for causing a Twitter uproar. The Anaconda rapper took to the micro-blogging site to slam the MTV VMAs for excluding her as a nominee in the Video of the Year category at next month's ceremony on Tuesday July 21. Taylor responded to Nicki's initial tweets with her own message, writing: '@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..(sic)'. Twitter, the public and the media then went into a frenzy, calling the exchange a 'feud'. But on Thursday July 23, Taylor took to the social media network to put an end to the controversy. 'I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ,' Taylor wrote. Nicki called attention to the way black women are depicted in the media, an intersectional feminist perspective, with her lamentation tweets on Tuesday, writing: 'I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.' But as Taylor noted in her tweet on Thursday, she thought Nicki's comments were aimed directly toward her. Nicki responded well to Taylor's apology tweet. 'That means so much Taylor, thank you. @taylorswift13,' the rapper wrote, closing out the message with three heart emojis. Nicki finalised the conversation by asking people to get over the drama. A fan wrote to the 32-year-old hip hop star with the message: 'I'm so glad Nic and Taylor made up!' And Nicki responded with: 'I've always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let's move on.'
  21. It's 40 years since classic The Jam line-up first started touring. The band had a phenomenal impact on pop music and wider youth culture. In their short career, they influenced a generation with their music, style, politics and inspiration. With Somerset House's current exhibition and Universal Music's recent CD 'About The Young Idea' which both trace the band's story in hits and images - Universal/Polydor now announce a live box set that follows the journey through incendiary concert recordings. Named after the legend painted on Paul Weller's amp, 'Fire & Skill' is a superb six disc box set ' featuring six previously unreleased concerts, one from each year of their major-label career.. 1. Starting with an early gig at London's famous 100 Club from 1977, the show featured took place 10 months after they first played the venue in November 1976, and was recorded for broadcast on American radio ahead of the trios inaugural visit to US in October 1977 for a six-date tour. 2. A Music Machine show from 1978, featuring most of the 2nd album ' 'This Is The Modern World'. This was The Jam's sixth live show of the year and one of four low-key shows in the capital to fanfare their new 'News Of The World' single under the banner 'The London Blitz'. 3. Reading University ' Feb 1979. Playing material from their breakthrough album 'All Mod Cons', this was The Jam's first live appearance of 1979, and found the band in a radically different place to their showcase at the Music Machine 12 months before. In that time, their third album, 'All Mod Cons', had been released to critical acclaim, and their status as one of the New Wave's most musically substantial and exciting bands had been secured. And Weller was still only 20 years old... 4. Newcastle City Hall ' October 1980, previewing songs from forthcoming album 'Sound Affects'. In the time between the show at Reading University (on Disc 3) and this appearance at Newcastle City Hall 20 months later, there had been more extraordinary developments in the group's world. 'Setting Sons', their fourth album, had given them a Top 3 hit with 'The Eton Rifles', which was followed in February 1980 with the stirring Number 1 single, 'Going Underground'. After three years on Polydor, The Jam had finally become the biggest group in the UK. 5. London's legendary Hammersmith Palais ' December 1981. Part of The Jam's four consecutive nights, previewing material from the forthcoming final album 'The Gift'. The shows took in the innovative form of a '60s soul revue, showcasing new acts including Bananarama, Department S and TV21. 6. One of the band's final ever gigs at Wembley Arena ' December 1982. Late in 1982 The Jam announced they were splitting up - there would, though, be a final chance for fans to experience The Jam's astonishing live shows, with a 14-date 'farewell' tour announced. The centrepiece was a five-night stand at Wembley Arena, the 10,000-capacity shed next to the London football stadium (the recording here is from the second date), the biggest live venue in the capital. * Packaged in mini, lift-off lid box with 72-page, colour hard-back book. * Individual gatefold wallets for the discs, designed as facsimiles of the original tape boxes. * Includes new essay, period photos, rare memorabilia and set of five postcard prints. * Remastered at Abbey Road. * Featuring stunning live versions of all the band's classic hits and favourites of which only 11 tracks previously released. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tracklisting Disc One Live at the 100 Club ' 11th September 1977 1. 22. Chris Brown is over wasting his time on "bulls**t and sh*tty people". The 26-year-old musician is currently banned from leaving the Philippines after a dispute over a contract, an official news agency from the country reported yesterday. Although he performed a scheduled show on Tuesday evening, it's thought the order was issued by promoters who advertised a concert he was meant to attend on New Year's Eve. Amid his troubles, Chris has taken to social media with an optimistic outlook. "That moment u wake up and realise who the f**k you are and how blessed you've been and finally understand you don't need anyone for anything except GOD! Then u realise how much time you wasted on bulls**t and sh*tty people! (sic)" he posted on Instagram alongside a photo of himself smiling in a black beanie hat and green jacket. Chris has made no secret of how baffled he is that he's being kept in the Philippines. In one video posted online the star is seen clowning around as he asks the camera what's going on, while in another he starts break dancing after raising his hands in the air and stating: "Sir I didn't do nothing." He cancelled his gig on December 31 at the last minute, leaving the 55,000-seat Philippine Arena empty, as he reportedly lost his passport. Chris has had a tough time of late; earlier this month armed robbers broke into his Californian home and held his aunt at gunpoint. TMZ reports the singer thinks people close to him were behind the crime and while no further details have been released yet, it's thought Nia Guzman - mother to his 13-month-old daughter Royalty - is worried. Chris' fatherhood was only revealed earlier this year, much to the surprise of fans and his then-girlfriend Karrueche Tran
  23. Tyrese Gibson insists he isn't playing the "race card" when he slams radio stations for not playing his music. The singer-and-actor's sixth solo album Black Rose has topped the Billboard 200 chart, marking the first time he's achieved the honour. The star still isn't very happy though, insisting that he hasn't received as much playback on commercial radio stations as other R&B artists, something he puts down to his race. "I'm not a racist, I'm not using the race card and I'm not trying to create any type of negative energy toward [uS radio hosts] Ryan Seacrest or Elvis Duran specifically," he told USA Today. "I'm simply asking the question: If Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke and Sam Smith are singing R&B/soul music, how is it possible that they're being played by Top 40, rhythmic and urban AC stations? Yet when we sing R&B/soul, it's only being played on black radio? It's not fair, it's not right and I'm not having it." This echoes comments the Fast & Furious star made on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Show this week, where he claimed that if urban radio plays tracks by all artists the commercial stations should do the same. "If I would've sung Sam Smith's version of [stay With Me] that has a full choir on the chorus, my song would've been played on urban AC radio and that's it. It wouldn't have went any further than that," he insisted. Black Rose is Tyrese's final solo effort, although not because of this. He will keep making music with other people, but wants to put his focus on raising his eight-year-old daughter Shayla Somer Gibson. Her mother is his ex-wife Norma Mitchell and the pair have been embroiled in a bitter custody battle, resulting in the pair splitting the care of their little girl. "The truth is, you can't be chasing a music career when you have 50/50 joint legal custody," he explained. "I've turned down nine movies and four different TV shows, including Season 1 of Empire, because I was fighting for custody."
  24. Sinead O'Connor will not be touring this summer due to an undisclosed health problem. The singer was scheduled to play at the Galway (Ireland) Arts Festival Big Top along with a series of European dates but all are off due to "exhaustion" from a medical situation. O'Connor's agent stated "Sinead O'Connor apologises profusely to her fans but she cannot travel this summer anymore. She is suffering from exhaustion due to an existing not resolved medical situation and she has been advised by the doctor to stop any activity and rest.Because of this she is completely unable to travel and to perform." Sinead has admitted to mental health problems in the past although there is no indication that the cancellations are due to anything associated with that illness. Last Friday, she became a grandmother for the first time.
