  1. The latest video from How It Should Have Ended showcases five ways that the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have won the battle with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. The methods vary wildly, but all of them seem Thanos getting his just deserts in some form or fashion. First premiering in 2007, How It Should Have Ended is one of the most popular video parody channels on YouTube. The series presents animated cinematic parodies which demonstrate how various films could have been handled differently to deliver more satisfying or logical conclusions. The series has inspired two spin-offs - Super Cafe and The Villain Pub - which are set in a unique shared continuity, where the heroes and villains of various films get together to talk shop at the end of a rough day of saving the world or failing to conquer it. Surprisingly, the Avengers: Infinity War video (above) is far less comedic in tone than is typical for How It Should Have Ended. The five ways in which Thanos might be defeated (all of which are based on popular fan theories) are played decidedly straight. What humor exists is appropriate to the Marvel characters' behavior in the movies, such was when Tony Stark attempts to call dibs on the Infinity Gauntlet once it is out of Thanos' grasp. Naturally, the heroes all retire to the Super Cafe and a ludicrously over-sized table once the battle is won. It is here the comedy begins in earnest, with Superman - ever quick to continue the Marvel vs. DC rivalry - asking nit-picky questions, like where Hawkeye was in all of this and Rocket finally stealing the Winter Soldier's new arm. Even Batman joins in the cheerful mood, dancing The Batsuit when Korg from Thor: Ragnarok (who it turns out is not dead) shows up to play some music on the jukebox. The video closes with a sudden shift in tone, as we cut to The Villains' Pub, where all the baddies are comforting a one-armed Thanos on his defeat. Suddenly, the villains all begin to crumble into dust - the result of Thor snapping his fingers while enjoying the music across town. In a callback to the final post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, we see Emperor Palpatine - the owner and bartender of the pub - rushing to retrieve and activate an ancient pager before he too is erased from existence. The person he is trying to message will be no surprise to longtime fans of How It Should Have Ended and promises big things in their next video. While it's easy to look back and determine what the film's heroes could've done to prevent Thanos from winning in Wakanda, everything that happened was meant to set up Avengers 4 as well as the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Infinity War was merely the beginning of the end of the MCU's first saga that began a decade ago.
  2. 21st Century Fox shareholders won't vote on The Walt Disney Company's buyout offer until the week after San Diego Comic-Con. Last year, Disney made an offer to acquire 21st Century Fox's movie and TV assets, namely 20th Century Fox, for over $54 billion in stock. While everything was progressing smoothly behind-the-scenes, the recent AT&T/Time Warner merger ended up being the impetus for an aggressive bidding war. AT&T and Time Warner winning antitrust approval allowed Comcast to provide Fox shareholders with a much higher buyout offer than Disney was proposing, which eventually led to the Mouse House submitting yet another bid. Now, Disney is offering Fox $71.3 billion in cash and stock - a deal that has already been given approval by the U.S. Department of Justice - which Fox has already agreed to. However, the company's shareholders have yet to decide to sell off their assets. The Wrap reports that 21st Century Fox shareholders will have an investors meeting on July 27 in which they will vote on whether or not to accept Disney's acquisition offer. Fox was originally slated to vote on the Disney deal on July 10, but it was pushed back following new bids from both Comcast and Disney. While the Disney/Fox deal seems to be all but complete, Comcast shouldn't be counted out just yet. They are reportedly looking to partner with other companies or private-equity investors to deliver an even higher offer than Disney. Equally, Disney themselves still have a few more hurdles to clear, most notably getting the green light from international regulators - an issue Comcast would be able to sidestep, should it succeed in finding a mutually-agreeable partnership. If the deal falls through, the biggest disappointment for comic book fans will surely be the X-Men and Fantastic Four not joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the moment, Marvel Studios has no plans to introduce the Fox Marvel heroes just yet - and they can't start planning those introductions until after the acquisition goes through, which may not happen until next summer. Still, it's important to note that a Fox buyout is far bigger than any comic book movie team-up; there are dozens and dozens of high-profile TV and movie properties in Fox's library that will transfer over to Disney, including majority ownership in both Hulu and Sky News. All of that will help bolster Disney's upcoming streaming service and their continued box office dominance. That may not sound like such a bad thing, with sequels being churned out like clockwork, but there was a reason some theater owners were refusing to show Star Wars last year.
  3. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed a long-held fan theory that Ant-Man includes a brief glimpse of Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp, in the Quantum Realm. You can spot her near the end of the movie, after Scott Lang has shrunk down to the subatomic level in order to sabotage Yellow Jacket's suit, and finds himself shrinking smaller and smaller uncontrollably. Scott sees an array of lights as he shrinks, and at one point Wasp's silhouette can be seen - both in the light, and reflected in Ant-Man's helmet. Of course, we'll see a lot more of Janet (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) in Peyton Reed's sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is out in theaters in just a few more days. The movie is set before Avengers: Infinity War, and will find Scott dealing with the fallout of his decision to join Team Cap in Captain America: Civil War. This time around Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne will finally be donning a superhero costume of her own, and Hank Pym, Hope and Scott will be venturing into the Quantum Realm on a rescue mission to find Janet. While plenty of fans spotted Wasp's silhouette in Ant-Man, it could have just been a trick of the light. However, Feige confirmed at the Ant-Man and the Wasp junket press conference that Scott did indeed encounter Janet in the Quantum Realm, as a way of setting up the sequel: "In the first film it was, we got a glimpse of it for people who like to go through frame-by-frame, there was a little silhouette of Janet as the Wasp in there, which is a big story element in this movie." This isn't the only time that Janet van Dyne appears in Ant-Man, as the movie also features a flashback scene that shows how she ended up becoming lost in the Quantum Realm. While she and Hank Pym were partnered up as Ant-Man and the Wasp, Janet went subatomic in order to slip through the casing of a bomb and deactivate it before it reached its target. Many lives were saved, but the original Wasp was lost. We don't yet know how the decades she spent in the Quantum Realm will have changed Janet, but we have heard that Pfeiffer has filmed scenes for next year's Avengers 4, so presumably the rescue mission is a success. The Quantum Realm is reachable by shrinking down to the subatomic level, but there are other ways of accessing it. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has confirmed that his movie shows the Quantum Realm among the various dimensions that Stephen Strange visits when the Ancient One first introduces him to magic. It's a thoroughly mysterious dimension, "where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant," according to Hank Pym, and we're definitely interested to find out more about it in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
  4. Marvel Studios is definitely going to make Doctor Strange 2, at some point. Thanks to the ever-expanding nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, those in charge of the universe have been blessed with an abundance of riches. They've relied heavily on the original Avengers for three phases, but also introduced new leads to take their place in Phase 4 and beyond. One of them should be Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, but Marvel is being cagey on the character's future. After a stellar debut with Doctor Strange, he had a brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, and then was prominently featured in Avengers: Infinity War. Despite the reception to Cumberbatch, though, there hasn't been any news on a sequel. It has long been expected that director Scott Derrickson will return to the franchise if a sequel happens, but that's about it. Everyone's been left in the dark about the future so far, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige assures a proper sequel is on the way. While speaking to CinemaBlend about the future of the MCU, Feige was asked about balancing the slate with so many franchises. Feige explained that it all comes back to scheduling, noting that potentially long gaps between sequels can sometimes be the norm. But, the wait also gives the leads chances at additional appearances in other films, a la Strange's recent films. Make no mistake though, Doctor Strange 2 is something they are planning. "Sometimes it's where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he's a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things." Considering how well-received Cumberbatch has been as Strange, it is great to see Feige sneak in the plan to give him a sequel in this answer. Not too long ago, Cumberbatch said there was no word on a Doctor Strange sequel, so maybe something has changed. He was arguably the best character in Infinity War, after all, so bringing him back as a leading man would likely result in box office returns that surpass the original's $677 million worldwide gross. Based on Feige's phrasing, this all but confirms that Strange will also be among those who "died" in Infinity War who make it out alive by the end of Avengers 4. It isn't too surprising, but that list continues to mount up and may make Infinity War's ending difficult to believe. Regardless, we can all start to firmly put Doctor Strange 2 in the MCU's future, it just remains to be seen how soon. The sequel has long been thought to be a great choice to close out Marvel's 2020 slate in November, but where exactly it lands is a question for Marvel to answer at a later time.
  5. Chloë Grace Moretz says the Suspiria remake is the closest thing to a modern Stanley Kubrick horror movie that she's ever seen. Moretz is no stranger to re-imagining famous horror films either, having previously played a vampire in Let Me In (a U.S. remake of Let the Right One In) and starred in the Carrie remake. She's also not the first person to heap praise upon Luca Guadagnino's version of Dario Argento's cult 1977 horror classic, with original Suspiria star Jessica Harper having even called it "the most brilliantly scary film I have ever seen". The Suspiria teaser trailer (which dropped online this month) is certainly unnerving and atmospheric, between Thom Yorke's creepy score and the teases of freaky supernatural mayhem to come in the film proper. It's more than a little reminiscent of Kubrick's work on The Shining in that regard, and Moretz says that's a proper reflection of what the movie itself is like - in the best way possible. Written by David Kajganich (creator of The Terror), Suspiria stars Dakota Johnson as Susie Bannon, an American dancer who comes to learn that her new European dance school is hiding some pretty dark and horrifying secrets. Moretz was hesitant to reveal much beyond that when she spoke about Suspiria at the Provincetown Film Festival this month, but did have the following insight to offer (per IndieWire): “This is a really big statement, but this is the closest to modern Stanley Kubrick I‘ve ever seen. You’re put into a world, which I can only describe it as being like ‘The Shining’ in a lot of ways, where you’re just encompassed in a filmmaker’s brain and you’re just implanted in there, and there’s nothing like it that you will ever see.” Moretz did reveal that her character (reportedly Patricia Hingle, from Argento's film) speaks mainly German in the Suspiria remake. The teaser trailer further shows Moretz looking ragged and on the run, but avoids spoiling anything about her character beyond that. Moretz commented on the film being "super locked down", saying that it serves to prevent the movie's most shocking elements from being ruined ahead of time. She also put in a good word for her "incredibly supportive" director, Guadagnino: “It’s unlike any other directing process I have ever been a part of. It’s Luca’s. Luca is Luca and there’s kind of no mistaking it for anything else. He’ll let you do the craziest stuff on screen and won’t bat an eye, he’ll tell you to go farther.” Guadagnino is riding a wave of good will after his efforts on last year's Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name, but it sounds like Suspiria will be a proper 180-degree turn from that summer romance drama. Anticipation for his horror film remake has only grown since the teaser trailer was released, and Moretz's comments further suggest there will be some real fire behind all this smoke. Judging by the descriptions of the gruesome Suspiria clip shown at CinemaCon back in April, the film will at least make good on Moretz's promise of being one freaky deaky ride.
  6. It looks like Indiana Jones 5's release date is going to be pushed back... again. Disney and Lucasfilm gained the full rights to the Indiana Jones franchise a year after the latter studio was purchased by the Mouse House in 2012. After rumors began to circulate that Disney and Lucasfilm were planning to reboot the series, the studios announced plans for a fifth Indiana Jones movie featuring Harrison Ford as the eponymous archaeologist, with Steven Spielberg once again calling the shot as director. Indiana Jones 5 was originally set to hit theaters in 2019, before it was pushed back to Summer 2020 last year. It's since been reported that the film will be starting production in April 2019, with Spielberg directing from a script by his longtime collaborator David Koepp. However, the latest update on the project reveals that shooting is being delayed, now that the Indiana Jones 5 screenplay is getting a rewrite. According to Variety, members of the Indiana Jones 5 production crew were recently informed that filming has been delayed from its previous Spring 2019 start date. It was also reported earlier today that Solo: A Star Wars Story cowriter Jonathan Kasdan has been recruited to rewrite the Indiana Jones 5 script for Disney and Lucasfilm. Variety's report says Kasdan has yet to formally close his deal, but it's all but a sure thing that he will, at this stage. Assuming the film's key creatives sign off on Kasdan's draft once he's done, then Indiana Jones 5 will continue to move forward again. While Variety says he remains committed to revisiting the Indiana Jones franchise, Spielberg certainly isn't waiting around for Indiana Jones 5 to happen. He's currently in pre-production on a West Side Story remake and, according to Variety, is thinking about reviving his historical drama The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara. The filmmaker is also developing DC's WWII adventure Blackhawk as a prospective directorial effort, and was recently circling a Ulysses S. Grant biopic that Leonardo DiCaprio is loosely attached to headline. After the disappointing response to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which Koepp also wrote), Spielberg, Ford, and Lucasfilm are presumably all the more inclined to make sure the Indiana Jones 5 script is in top shape before moving forward. Seeing as this will almost certainly be Ford's last Indiana Jones film, the hope is he and Spielberg will end their run on the series on a higher note than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That's all the more reason for them to take their time on Indiana Jones 5 and not rush anything for the sake of making a release date. That being said: if they still aren't pleased with the script after the latest rewrite, then it might be better for them to simply let bygones be bygones and not revisit the franchise at all. We will bring you more details on Indiana Jones 5 as they become available.
  7. Mission: Impossible - Fallout actress Rebecca Ferguson is reportedly circling the Shining sequel Doctor Sleep. Ewan McGregor has already signed on for the Stephen King adaptation in the role of Danny Torrance, the little boy from the original Shining, who is now a grown man still haunted by the ghosts he first experienced years before in the infamous Overlook Hotel. King himself has reportedly given his blessing to the casting of McGregor. Published in 1977, The Shining followed Jack Torrance and his wife and son as they lived over the winter in an isolated Colorado hotel while Jack worked as caretaker. While Jack slowly disintegrated psychologically, his son Danny encountered supernatural entities while coming to discover his psychic gift called "the shining." The book was adapted in 1980 into a classic film by the great director Stanley Kubrick (that movie would come to figure heavily in 2018's Steven Spielberg nostalgia blow-out Ready Player One). King published the sequel Doctor Sleep in 2013, and in January 2018 it was announced that Warner Bros. would produce the film adaptation with Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan set to helm. As reported by Variety, Doctor Sleep is now looking to add Rebecca Ferguson to star alongside Ewan McGregor. No details about Ferguson's character have been revealed. However, it's possible Ferguson could be sought to portray Rose the Hat, the book's main antagonist. Born in County Antrim, Ireland, Rose the Hat is the semi-immortal chief of a tribe of wandering demonic murderers known as the True Knot. In Doctor Sleep, the grown version of Danny Torrance, who has long used alcohol to suppress his psychic abilities, finally learns to unleash his shining to help comfort dying people. He later befriends a young girl named Abra who shares his psychic gift, but the two are targeted by the True Knot, who feed off the steam produced when those gifted with the shining die in agony. King elected to write the Shining sequel after holding an online poll that asked fans to choose his next project, with Doctor Sleep winning out over a potential Dark Tower series book. Potential new Doctor Sleep movie cast member Rebecca Ferguson had a busy 2017, appearing in the sci-fi movie Life, the critically panned box office bomb The Snowman and the surprise smash hit musical The Greatest Showman. Ferguson can be seen later this summer starring alongside Tom Cruise in the action sequel Mission: Impossible - Fallout, her second go-around in the long-running franchise. Doctor Sleep is set for release on January 24th, 2020.
  8. Baby Driver director Edgar Wright celebrated the film's one-year anniversary by teasing the possibility of a sequel coming soon in the form of Baby Driver 2. With a worldwide gross of $226 million against a reported budget of $34million, the music-propelled action movie Baby Driver gave well-regarded cult director Wright his first bona fide big studio hit. Now, fans everywhere wonder where Wright's fertile cinematic imagination will take him next. In fact, Wright already has a next project on the way, a documentary about the pop rock band Sparks. As for fiction films, the only known upcoming project for Wright is the DreamWorks animated film Shadows, though there has been no update on that possible movie since 2015 so its status must be considered up in the air. As for Wright tackling a sequel to Baby Driver, the director has already talked about wanting to write the follow-up and has stated firmly that if the movie happens, he would indeed direct it himself. It's far from a confirmation, but Wright has once again floated the possibility of a Baby Driver sequel being in his future. In a tweet commemorating the one-year anniversary of Baby Driver's release, Wright dropped a little teaser that indicated a sequel could be happening in the near future. Read the tweet below: View image on Twitter Twitter Ads info and privacy In light of the healthy box office returns for Baby Driver, it's easy to understand why Sony would want to get a sequel into production as soon as possible. From Wright's point-of-view, if the writer-director truly has another story he wishes to tell involving the character of Baby (Ansel Elgort), there's all the reason in the world for him to write the sequel and direct it. The ending of Baby Driver did leave Baby's fate quite ambiguous and open, so there are plenty of different directions Wright could take the story if indeed he felt the urge to revisit that world. On the other hand, some might argue the ending of Baby Driver - which left audiences wondering whether Baby really reunited with his lady love Debora (Lily James) after prison or only fantasized about getting back together with her - was in fact perfect in its ambiguity and openness. To these folks, making a follow-up that definitely answered any questions about Baby's future with or without Debora would be an injustice to the poetry of that ending. At the end of the day, Wright owns the story and the characters and it's up to him to decide whether Baby should get another chapter. As of now, it appears Wright is at least still mulling climbing back into the driver's seat for another spin with Baby.
  9. A new batch of concept art for Captain Marvel has arrived, offering a number of looks at Carol Danvers suited up as the cosmic hero along with a young Nick Fury. Though Ant-Man and the Wasp is the MCU's next big entry, fans are eagerly anticipating the debut of Carol Danvers on the big screen next year. Her story will kick-off in the early '90s where she'll team with a young Nick Fury and Phil Coulson to stem the tide of the Kree-Skrull War. And with that major event introduced into the Marvel movies, Secret Invasion could be in the future. While Captain Marvel will be a prequel, the end credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War proved that it will tie back into the modern narrative. With many of the universe's heroes gone, Thanos and other villains will be running amok when Avengers 4 happens. Luckily, Captain Marvel can move planets with her considerable strength, meaning she'll be a major asset to the remaining Avengers. Despite the relevance the character is about to have in the MCU, an official version of Brie Larson in costume has yet to be released. Some new concept art, however, gets fairly close. Aj Designs shared some new concept art for Captain Marvel on Twitter that he claims is official. While it would be strange for someone commissioned to work on a Marvel project to reveal art for a film before marketing has even begun, the designs are still interesting to behold. Not only do they show a couple of different looks for Carol Danvers, we also get to see a younger and more subdued Nick Fury. Twitter Ads info and privacy The art is the second Aj Designs has dropped today. Before the look at Captain Marvel, new Avengers 4 concept art showed Carol alongside Hulk in his new unitard and War Machine with his biggest upgrade yet. That art ties in with the recent Avengers 4 art that also teased some new character looks. Again, none of this art has been confirmed to be official, but the quality and designs are interesting enough even if they don't reflect the actual film. If the art is real, then it presents us with our best look at Captain Marvel's costume. Naturally, it fits right into the current MCU with elements of Captain America's and Spider-Man's costumes. Knowing that, it's possible that this costume will be Carol's Avengers 4 look as it certainly appears more in line with the modern MCU. That means Tony Stark may be responsible for the new costume, as he's helped outfit most of the Avengers. It's also nice to finally see how Nick Fury will appear in Captain Marvel, complete with both his eyes (though missing his iconic duster). The origins of Fury and Coulson should be another interesting aspect of Captain Marvel, helping to flesh out more of SHIELD's early days. With Captain Marvel wrapping filming in the coming weeks, hopefully we'll see something official revealed this summer. Until then, stay tuned for more Captain Marvel art and news.
  10. Stranger Things may be headlining Halloween Horror Nights at several Universal Studios parks this year with its unique Upside Down-themed maze (alongside the Trick 'r Treat haunted house) but there's even more newness coming to Universal Orlando. Two 1980s horror icons - Chucky and Killer Klowns from Outer Space – will come to life as terrifying scare zones at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights this year with their very own scare zones. In the Revenge of Chucky scare zone, Chucky from Universal 1440 Entertainment’s film series returns to create chaos in the streets of Universal Studios. "Guests will enter a toy fair turned lethal, filled with diabolical twists on childhood toys from the past." They will be stalked by possessed toys including murderous monkeys, a board game turned deadly and more, including Chucky himself. In the Killer Klowns from Outer Space scare zone, an interstellar circus tent filled with the otherworldly "klowns" from MGM's hit horror sci-fi film has landed in the streets of Universal Studios. "The sweet smell of cotton candy will invite guests inside – but they will soon realize that the treats are spun from unsuspecting victims, and they’re next on the list." Guests will try to escape the killer klowns or face the wrath of their ray guns, which will turn them into grotesque cotton candy snacks. Revenge of Chucky and Killer Klowns from Outer Space complete the scare zone line up for this year’s event and join three other original stories that will haunt the streets – including Vamp 85: New Year’s Eve, Twisted Tradition and The Harvest. Halloween Horror Nights 2018 at Universal Orlando takes place on select nights during September 14 – November 3. Horrors of the ‘80s will invade this year’s event as cinematic greats, slasher films, cult classics and original nightmares inspired by the past come to life – including Netflix’s sci-fi thriller “Stranger Things” and Legendary Pictures’ Halloween classic “Trick ‘r Treat.” Guests will encounter more scares than ever before as they face 10 haunted houses – the most houses in event history – five scare zones and one powerhouse live show. Additional details about this year’s event will be revealed soon. For more information and to purchase tickets, visitwww.HalloweenHorrorNights.com. Halloween Horror Nights takes place on on select nights between September 14 and November 3, 2018.
  11. Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader and James McAvoy get to know each other in the first behind the scenes photos from the set of IT: Chapter 2. The follow-up to 2017's blockbuster horror film IT takes place 27 years later as Pennywise the Clown returns to once again terrorize the town of Derry. Though they're all grown up and no longer remember their traumatic first encounter with Pennywise, the Losers' Club reassembles in their hometown to battle the ancient kid-devouring evil, and hopefully kill it for good. Casting for the adult versions of the Losers' Club kids in IT: Chapter 2 has been a closely-watched process. First to join was two-time Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain, who reunites with Mama director Andy Muschietti. The film later scored two more big name actors when James McAvoy and Bill Hader jumped aboard. Since then, the film has rounded out the Losers' Club with James Ransone, Andy Bean, Jay Ryan and Isaiah Mustafa. Bill Skarsgård of course returns to play the terrifying Pennywise. The kid versions of the Losers' Club are also expected to reappear in flashbacks. With IT: Chapter 2 officially underway, star James McAvoy has shared the first behind the scenes look at some of the assembled cast. McAvoy posted the Polaroids to his Instagram account, giving fans their first glimpse of what the actors look like together. McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader appear to already be working on their chemistry in the pic on the top right. The pic on the bottom left shows McAvoy getting to know actor Jaeden Lieberher, which makes sense as McAvoy will be playing the grown-up version of Lieberher's IT character Bill Denbrough. Featured in the same picture is Jack Dylan Grazer who plays the young Eddie Kaspbrak. Grown-up Mike Hanlon actor Isaiah Mustafa also appears, looking like he's ready to begin shooting an intense scene. After the first movie blew up at the box office to the tune of $700 million worldwide, Warner Bros. is banking on IT: Chapter 2 also scaring up huge numbers. The original movie certainly got a lot of mileage out of standard horror movie techniques, including a lot of jump-scares, but much of its appeal also came from the chemistry between the young actors playing the tight-knit Losers' Club. For the sequel, the young versions of the characters will only be featured in flashbacks, while the main action involves their adult selves. Will audiences respond to Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, James McAvoy and company as the adult Losers as strongly as they did to the characters' adolescent incarnations? That's one of the big questions facing the sequel.
  12. Josh Brolin reveals that he actually didn't know how many Marvel heroes Thanos killed until after he watched Avengers: Infinity War. Dubbed one of the best villains in the franchise, Brolin's intergalactic villain role has oddly become a fan-favorite. Thanks to a more complex characterization and a justifiable motivation different from the usual greedy bad guy, the Mad Titan, has been both lauded and hated for the chaos that he brought to the MCU. However, arguably the primary cause of people's hatred of him was because of how he ruthlessly killed so many beloved heroes in the franchise - most of which are just getting started with their own respective solo adventures. Now, Brolin reveals that he, apparently, didn't know just how many characters Thanos killed in Infinity War. In an interview with USA Today while promoting Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Brolin talked about how even he was surprised at the number of heroes Thanos killed in Infinity War. As it turns out, he only found out once he actually sat down and watched the movie with Chris Hemsworth. "I was literally sitting in the theater going, 'Oh my God. Oh my God. Spider-Man just disintegrated. That’s not OK,' I looked at Hemsworth and he looked at me. He smiled and was like, ‘Your career is over,'" he said, recalling the Australian actor jokingly teasing him. Brolin may have been talking about the simultaneous hero deaths towards the end of the film after Thanos' snapped his fingers, but there is actually one particular death that he remembers filming: choking Tom Hiddleston's Loki until his neck snapped. It makes sense considering how difficult it was for everyone involved to shoot that scene. "He had been with that character for so long. And he’s so lauded for doing it. Tom was so vulnerable at that moment. So choking him out wasn’t the most fun thing I have ever done," Brolin explained. Despite all this, the actor is quite pleased with himself knowing that his performance as Thanos was so effective that people were actually coming at him on social media. "On Instagram people are posting things like, 'I hate you.' That’s fantastic. I’m, like, the one guy who smiles when he sees that. It’s like, 'It worked,'" he admitted. It won't be long until Marvel fans see Brolin's Thanos back again on the big screen with Avengers 4 less than a year from hitting theaters. But at that point in time, people can expect that their beloved heroes will be back with a vengeance as Iron Man and his original Avenger pals - with the help of Captain Marvel and Ant-Man - attempt to save the universe from doom.
  13. Matt Reeves' The Batman is allegedly starting to recruit production crew members as filming may soon begin. As far as official news is concerned, Ben Affleck is still attached to star in the standalone movie, which he was also looking to direct before relegating helming duties to Reeves. But with several months of confusing reports, coupled with the actor's own confusing remarks, fans can't help but continue speculating that the he may actually no longer be playing the role past Justice League. Earlier this month, news broke out that The Batman might actually be interconnected with Joaquin Phoenix's DCEU-separate The Joker movie, and considering that the flick will supposedly center on the younger years of the character as a failed comedian in the '80s, it was as good as saying that Affleck won't be appearing in it. Just a few days later, another rumor suggested that Warner Bros. is apparently still contemplating whether to include the film in the rumored DC Dark or DC Black canon or the established DCEU continuity, depending on reception to their upcoming films. While it's still unclear how The Batman will fit (or not) in the DCEU, it seems like the film is already pushing through according to a brand new rumor. A report from Batman on Film suggests that Reeves' project is already "starting to hire people to work on the film. If so, that means that “they” are moving towards pre-production and filming could start at some point relatively soon, maybe." Should this turn out to be true, that means that the flick could be ready for release sometime in 2020 or 2021. Depending on how long it will take for them to actually start principal photography, this new bit somehow coincides with earlier reports claiming that The Batman might start production later this year, and perhaps even a subsequent rumor that suggests that cameras won't be rolling until early 2019, if pre-production takes a little while longer. Nonetheless, it seems like Warner Bros. is pushing for the movie to debut in 2020 at the earliest. This release date allows the film studio to see people's perception of already scheduled DC movies first, as it will be the main factor in deciding in which continuity the standalone will fall under as previously mentioned. If this comes to fruition, fans can expect a casting decision for the film's titular role. A few weeks ago, a report stated that the Reeves-directed/written upcoming project will focus on a younger version of the character, which prompted people to assume that Affleck is officially out of the cowl. But due to Warner Bros. waiting on the people's reaction to Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 2, as well as the Joker origin film, this isn't necessarily the case. Whatever the case may be, any official announcement from Warner Bros. and DC Films regarding who will star in the forthcoming project will effectively end people's long-time confusion with regard to Affleck's commitment to his superhero gig.
  14. It's Star Wars vs. the Marvel as one fan asks Mark Hamill and Chris Evans if a Jedi's lightsaber can cut through Captain America's Vibranium shield. The primary choice of weapon by Jedi, the lightsaber has been one of the most iconic pieces of pop culture for decades. Mining its powers from a Kyber crystal, most Jedi build their own sabers, while others treat it as family heirlooms (like how Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader's was passed on to Luke). Steve Rogers' shield, on the other hand, was created by Howard Stark using Wakandan-sourced Vibranium. Both are undoubtedly powerful, but the main difference is that lightsabers' power is mostly rooted in magic and mysticism, while Cap's shield is mainly a product of science. Stemming from a fan asking: "Can a lightsaber cut through Captain America's shield," and tagging both actors on Twitter, Hamill first shared his thoughts by breaking it down to two scenarios, one in the Marvel Universe and second in the Star Wars Universe. The veteran actor simply stated that in the MCU, a Jedi's primary weapon won't be able to cut through Cap's Vibranium shield. In the galaxy, far, far away, however, his answer gets a bit complicated explaining that Luke won't fight a hero - pertaining to the Star Spangled Avenger, but if forced to do just that, he could cut the iconic shield "into a million little pieces." See his tweet below: It didn't take long for Evans to chime in on the matter after Hamill answered the query. But instead of going in depth into explaining (and postulating that Cap's shield is stronger), the actor simply acknowledged the last part of Hamill's reply by saying that Steve Rogers would "have vibranium ninja stars." Check out his tweet below: Obviously, fans quickly flocked the two actors' tweets - sharing their own opinions on the matter and even suggesting a Star Wars/MCU crossover to settle this debate. Since both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney, this idea isn't as hard to pull off as it's initially perceived. Having said that, there's currently no sign that something like this will happen in the foreseeable future considering that both franchises are busy building their own cinematic universes. That doesn't mean, however, that there's no chance that Hamill and Evans will share the screen together. That Star Wars legacy actor was in contact recently with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn after a social media exchange between them earlier this year with regard to Hamill possibly getting a role in the threequel. It's unclear if the two reached an arrangement, but with the 66-year-old's broad acting range, it's not going to be difficult to find a suitable Marvel character for him to play in the MCU.
  15. Clerks director and comic book nerd Kevin Smith has shut down recent rumors that he's set to direct a Marvel or Star Wars movie for Disney. It's been a tough week for Smith, whose TV show Comic Book Men was canceled by AMC after seven seasons and 96 episodes, but unfortunately for fans of the director, he's not moving on to direct one of Disney's mega-blockbusters. The rumors of Smith directing a Marvel or Star Wars movie came from FandomWire, who reported several days ago that Smith had met with Disney for a potential project. The original rumor didn't claim with any certainty that the project was Marvel/Star Wars; rather, it said that "It’s very possible that Smith will be taking on a Marvel or Star Wars project," but cautioned that "That’s all speculation at this point." While it's still possible that Smith has met with Disney for some kind of secret potential project, that project definitely wasn't a Star Wars movie or a Marvel movie. A fan reached out to Smith on Twitter to ask if he was really set to work on one of Disney's two biggest live-action franchises, and Smith responded that it was "easy to deny": It wasn't entirely implausible that Smith would be called upon to direct a comic book movie, since he's already directed several episodes of CW shows Supergirl and The Flash. On the movie side of things, however, Smith has mainly leaned towards R-rated comedies and, more recently, unabashedly weird horror-comedy films Tusk and Yoga Hosers. During a recent episode of his Fatman on Batman podcast, Smith revealed that he'd found funding for the final movie in his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws, which is described as "Jaws with a moose." While it's funny to think of Disney deciding to invest in Moose Jaws, this probably wasn't what Smith's meeting with the studio was about - if it happened at all. The original rumor didn't claim that Smith's meeting was definitely about a Marvel or Star Wars movie, so his denial of that aspect doesn't rule out the possibility that the rumor was accurate. However, given the kind of movies that Smith makes, it's hard to imagine what kind of secret project Disney would want him to direct. Until we hear more about it from official sources, we're chalking this one up to the rumor mill simply churning out bad information, as it so often does.
