The application is highly customizable via a lot of additional plugin options. The user interface of the torrent client is a bit tricky to get by at first. It is a bit different than the regular torrent clients. But you won’t have a hard time using it; the layout is quite smooth. The standard installation adequately covers all the essentials & you should be able to quickly get started without much of a hassle.

However, it does lose out on some of the advanced mechanisms such as embedded trackers. The torrent client recently hit the news because of security vulnerability that could be exploited by hackers. BitTorrent is more like a rebranded version of the classic uTorrent. This torrent client is proprietary, which means that the source code is not available publicly. The application provides a fair overall user experience. This torrent client is cool, but often finds a tough competition from many other ad-free and open-source clients.

6] Vuze

Final in the list, Vuze is a smarter cross-platform alternative to uTorrent. It has a built-in search, can be expanded via plug-ins, and can be set-up to run only on a virtual private network. The application also allows faster downloads by merging the swarms of multiple torrents that contain the same file. It is a truly loaded application and also contains built-in virus protection. The app scans all of your downloads for malicious files. While the application does have a lot of greatness packed-in, it also has some drawbacks of its own. The free version has a lot of ads and even pushes unwanted software. The user interface is not as intuitive as its peers, and the overall experience is only satisfactory because the application is heavy and slow.

All of the uTorrent alternatives come with their own set of pros and cons. I would suggest you try each one and then decide which software suits you best. Personally, I prefer open source options like the Vuze since they offer an exhaustive set of feature without ending up being too commercial.

I like Qbittorent.  It took me about an hour to configure it properly but that's because I didn't read the wiki beforehand.  I still think that I was able to find peers to upload to faster with uTorrent but for the most part, Qbittorrent seems to be just as good.

It seems to take a bit longer to find peers to upload to when seeding but I noticed this much more before I configured everything correctly.  

When I used uTorrent and seeded 40-50 torrents, within a few hours, I would have uploaded 3-5GB.  With Qbittorrent, the total amount uploaded is about 20% less with the same torrents.  I think it drops peers quicker than uTorrent and I've read similar accounts from other people.  

Overall, it works well and I've stuck with it. I just think that uTorrent was quicker in finding peers.

On Windows machine most of the torrent clients are memory hogs. utorrent was a good client until it was not anymore.

From utorrent to I shifted to BitComet, which is great if you stick to public torrents but it is banned from almost all the private trackers since it tries frequent disconnecting gimmick to download blocks faster. Vuze and Deluge are good but memory hungry.  Qbittorrent had its own issues when I had tried it.

The best client that I found is rtorrent which I use it today on Linux system, but setting it up on Windows with cygwin is a pain for lot of people.

So, the best alternative was Transmission - definitely the best use of resources; daemon configuration makes life easy; I could easily set it up on Raspberry Pi as well.

I have been out of the game for a while...

Just getting back into it and within the last couple of years I've noticed Utorrent is full of Ads..

trying to sneak software in via install.. and it's annoying.   I had nothing but headaches with pop-ups suddenly when I refused to accept 

the new agreement..so I'm now using QBitorrent.

I was using Utorrent for a long time. Then many private trackers have banned it. Then I shifted to Bittorrent, but it comes with ads. I tried transmission and still not clear as to which is the best torrent software that can be safely used in private torrents. 

In this thread I find many votes going for qbittorrent. I'll try it.

Please advice if it is safe to use in private torrent tracker sites.
